NUFC tracking Celtic star, Colombian striker & MLS goal machine – The Athletic

During their latest piece on the transfer front, The Athletic have named three strikers on Newcastle United’s radar – Rangers star Alfredo Morelos, Atlanta Utd’s Josef Martinez and Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.

All three could be exciting arrivals at St James’ Park, but it seems they may be ‘ones to watch’ this summer, with Chris Waugh suggesting they are ‘unrealistic’ options for now given Bruce is expected to have around ‘£20m’ to spend this month.

Morelos and Martinez have both been tentatively linked with a move to Tyneside over the past year, but Odsonne Edouard is a new name.

The 22-year-old Frenchman has bagged 16 goals and 15 assists for Celtic so far this season, continuing his impressive form in Scotland after being involved in 30 goals in their 2018/19 campaign.

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos is another young striker scoring goals for fun in the SPL and has been backed to be a big success in England should be make the step up to Premier League level.

The Colombian has bagged 28 goals and 9 assists already this season, following on from a stunning 30 goals and 11 assists for Steven Gerrard’s side across 2018/19.

Then to Josef Martinez – the Atalanta Utd star who was confirmed as a target by the Chronicle last year.

The fact he turns 27 last summer makes me question if he’s a player Mike Ashley’s transfer policy would allow us to spend big money on, however his goal record in the MLS has been oustanding – not forgetting the fact he linked up brilliantly with Miguel Almiron during his time in Atlanta.

In 100 appearances in the MLS, Martinez has bagged 88 goals and 10 assists, while his stocky frame and impressive pace have made many believe he’d have what it takes to succeed in England.

With us likely to be relying on loans this month when it comes to strikers, these three could be ones to watch this summer.
