US billionaire “wants to buy Newcastle United” once he sells Serie A giants – Dubious report

It’s that time again folks. Barely two weeks into 2020 and a new takeover link has emerged, this time from Italy.

According to a dubious report from Adnkronos, James Pallotta “wants to buy Newcastle United” once he finalises the sale of AS Roma.

The US billionaire is currently in the final stages of selling the Serie A giants to The Friedkin Group, and the Italian outlet claims the 61-year-old could make Newcastle United his next move.

Adnkronos also report that the American has “asked for information for the purchase of Newcastle United” but claim both “Arabs and other international entrepreneurs” could compete with him over a potential ‘€300m’ deal with Mike Ashley.

The same story also claims Fabio Baldini – the right-hand man of former England boss Fabio Capello – is a advising Pallotta on the matter.

Considering the time of year (takeover season!) and the number of false dawns we’ve endured over the past few years, I think it’s fair to say we’ll all be taking this one with a big pinch of salt!
