Joey Barton trolls Sunderland fans after late drama sends Stadium of Light wild – Watch here

Last night, former Mag Joey Barton took his promotion chasing Fleetwood Town side to the Stadium of Light – and, needless to say, it was eventful as ever.

The game couldn’t have started better for the ex-Newcastle midfielder, with Fleetwood taking an early lead 5 minutes in and remaining 1-0 up for 92 of the 93 minutes that followed.

A win would’ve taken Barton’ side level on points with Sunderland, but a 98th minute equaliser from Max Power sealed a last gasp 1-1 draw.

It sent the Stadium of Light wild, but rather than celebrate their goal from the stands, hordes of Mackems ran pitch side to mock Barton.

See it for yourself here, along with Barton’s amusing post-match interview:

Sunderland fans are lapping it up on social media, claiming Barton is ‘fuming’ after the late equaliser – yet the fans who felt more obliged to rub it in his face than celebrate their team’s goal seem to have the biggest issue here!

As Barton states, the groundsman at the Stadium of Light drenched the pitch in the build up to the game to try and throw the ‘mighty Fleetwood Town’ off their passing game.

It’s a big point for Sunderland in the end, stopping their promotion-chasing rivals from stealing a march on them in their bid to secure a top 6 spot, but one that came with some pretty embarrassing scenes late on.

Good to see Joey Barton is still living rent free in the head’s of Sunderland fans all these years on from his Newcastle United exit.
