Newcastle handed bizarre ‘boost’ in bid to sign Marseille star this summer – Report

According to reports in France, Newcastle’s sponsorship deal with PUMA has handed the club a ‘boost’ in their pursuit of Marseille star Morgan Sanson.

This comes via French outlet BuzzSport, who claim we have ‘strong interest’ in the 25-year-old midfielder and could gain a ‘little help’ to sign him from PUMA – with the brand keen for him to sign for another team they equip.

Here’s a snippet from their piece, which suggests PUMA chiefs could help facilitate his move to St James’ Park should we up our interest this summer:

‘Morgan Sanson is one of the muses of Puma. And clearly, the next destination of the French midfielder interests the German brand.

‘It is not impossible to see the leaders of the brand play the intermediaries to facilitate its transfer.

‘In England, Puma equips clubs like Newcastle, which has a strong interest in Morgan Sanson.

‘A little help is possible.’

Given the source reporting this and the nature of their claims, I’d not blame anyone for taking these claims with a pinch of salt – however Sanson is a player our scouts appear to have been tracking for some time now, with links to the French international dating back to 2017.

Given the same was said about the likes of Joelinton, Saint-Maximin and Willems before they signed, it would be no real surprise to see us make a move for him, with him fitting the bill in terms of age, potential and likely price-tag.

Sanson has 4 goals and 4 assists from central midfield this season, helping Marseille move up to 2nd and comfortably clear of third in Ligue 1.

As for PUMA, their deal with the club is due to expire this summer as things stand, but The Chronicle recently claimed the were planning to keep Newcastle United amongst their portfolio.
