Toon attempting to sign TWO Everton stars but face competition from Chelsea – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle and Chelsea could go head-to-head over late deals for Everton duo Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana.

Chelsea have recently spent well over £100m on wingers Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, but both The Telegraph and 90min report that Todd Boehly remains interested in Gordon; a player the Blues bid for over the summer.

Dan Ashworth is said to be a big fan of Gordon, but neither Newcastle or the Blues have yet made an approach for the 21-year-old, with the Londoners lining up a bid that would send him back to Everton on loan.

The same is said about Onana, 21, with 90min reporter Graeme Bailey claiming that Newcastle have also enquired about bringing the 6ft 4′ midfielder to St James’ Park.

He’s been one of their better players this season and is no stranger to Sven Botman, with the Belgian powerhouse playing alongside the Dutchman at Lille prior to his £33m move to Goodison.

The situation at Everton is desperate. With the club in 19th and manager-less, they seem unlikely to sell two of their best players mid-season. However, the Toffees are in a mess financially and may have to stomach a few high profile exits to stay afloat.

You have to wonder if Gordon could see a pathway for himself at Chelsea given the volume of new signings and inflated number of options in Graham Potter’s squad.

Regardless, it is clear that Newcastle must add to an attack that’s now one man down following Chris Wood’s exit, with midfield reinforcements also on the agenda after Howe admitted we are particularly light in this area of the field and one injury away from trouble.

  1. You are suggesting that Everton, being in a relegation battle, won’t sell, and go on to say that they need the cash.
“With the club in 19th and manager-less, they seem unlikely to sell two of their best players mid-season. ”
    Then you say….
“…..with the Londoners lining up a bid that would send him back to Everton on loan”
You don’t even seem to realise that you explained the most sensible path for Everton .
