Taylor turns down Newcastle.

Peter Taylor.
Taylor stays with Bradford.
It looks like Peter Taylor has turned down the opportunity to become Alan Pardew’s new assistant manager at Newcastle.

Taylor had admitted last night that he had been in talks with Newcastle over a move to the North-East, but it would appear that something has got in the way of the move happening.

Several sources have suggested that a compensation package had been agreed between Newcastle and Bradford City for the services of Taylor, so I guess that train of thought is ruled out now. It would have been nice to have Taylor here working alongside the current structure, but it isn’t to be as Taylor has decided to stick with the League Two outfit.

Mark Lawn, Bradford’s joint-chairman, told the Yorkshire Post: “Newcastle approached us between Christmas and new year and we subsequently agreed compensation for the remainder of Peter’s contract. But since then Peter has indicated he wants to stay and we hope that is the end of it.”

There isn’t much more that can be said about it now. Taylor isn’t coming, end of, and Alan Pardew’s search to bolster his backroom staff will have to continue.

Of course, this again opens the door for some more John Carver speculation, but as I wrote last night, Pardew must not be swayed by public opinion and must appoint a man that he knows he can trust from the start. I’m not saying that he couldn’t trust Carver, and I believe he would be a good addition, but Pardew must have someone he can work with straight away.

It’s been just over eleven weeks since Colin Calderwood departed for the Hibernian job, which means that it has been nearly three months, and two managers, since we have had an assistant manager at Newcastle. That is pretty shocking to be honest, and needs addressing sooner rather than later.

So where do we go now?

  3. well im new to all the blogging, i have been readin .org and eds for about 6 months now via news now. i find it funny to see how people react to all the goings on surrounding our fantastic club. a couple of major differences between the 2 sites i mentioned, ed writes an article regardless of whether there is anything to the story and the comments are usually very negative. one guy captain beefheart usually rants for ever about rubbish i must say!! but on the whole .org was a far better site and got banter going, which i think is what a blog is all about. just wanted to say i look forward to the new blog toonsy, and hopefully this will now be the one place where geordie fans (and the odd SMB) can have a good laugh 🙂

  7. well now that i have a log in etc hopefully be on here a bit more, and express my views a bit.
in terms of players we are being linked with, i think that bentley would be a great signing for less than 5 mill, not the most pace but he cant half deliver into the box. krancjar i think would be a bit part player especially once benny is back and fit (dont forget we also have gosling back now or pretty much).
the striker is a tough one, personally keane would do a job, charlie austin for the future loan him straight back out. i like vela but he could hinder the opportunities that ranger would great, and why benfit arsenal at our expense.
