Newcastle 5-0 West Ham – Match highlight video.

I’ve finally tracked down some decent highlights for all those, including myself, who didn’t get to either go the match itself or watch it live.

The highlight of the game has to be Leon Best’s superb hat-trick. All three of his goals were well taken and surprised a lot of people last night. Hopefully Best can use this as a platform to prove his worth on Tyneside.

Joey Barton was fantastic, as you will probably see, and the defence looked fairly solid, albeit against a poor West Ham side.

All in all it was a fantastic result and was probably more than what was expected by a lot of people. The game had a feeling of a potential banana skin to it, especially considering our previous home form and tendancy to appear complacent against the so called ‘weaker’ teams in the league.

There was no evidence of that last night however, and West Ham become the first club this season that Newcastle have managed to secure the double over.

Enjoy the video.

  1. also a good solid display from Harper (although I acknowledge that he didn’t have a lot to do). Krul may find that he sits on the bench for a while as Pardew has clearly made his choice …

  2. pretty bad is an understatement lol
But I do think he will settle when he bags his 1st proper goal.
The same as I said about Best 😉

  3. Aye..it was an unbelieviable miss, especially after how clinical best was. I know its unfair to judge on performances like, but another strong performance for Best and another poor show like that from Ranger and he’ll find himself at the bottom of the pecking order…Does make me laugh, some people seemed ready to be calling for Pardew’s head after the line up was announced with Best starting, wonder where they’ve all gone now like 😀

  4. In watching the replay several times, it almost looks like he was trying to pass it Fergusen on the left…

If Ranger ever buries his chances he might be deadly. He seems to get 1 or 2 every match

  5. I’ll happily admit I was confused when Best was selected like, I think we all were given the fact it was a game we needed to win and he’d never started a PL game nevermind scored a competitive goal for us.
Fair play to him though he stood up to be counted, asked for his chance and took it spectacularly. Maybe Pards has seen something in him in training. I have to say if he was banging on the door demanding he gets a chance you have admire the fact he has balls, he probably saw it as a big F-U to fans like me who wondered WTF he was doing here! Lol

  6. Really shock last night. What a result !!!

    Is Best left foot ??
Speechless for his hat-trick not in my wildest dream that he scored hat-trick in his first starting XI in BPL and he really played well on his striker role – hold the ball , flick it and helped out when defend and he’s fast !!

really great work form all of the lads and credit to Pardew too.

worth for me to waked up in middle of the night to saw the match even I had a test in the afternoon 😀

Unfortunately, although I can’t think of any better midfielder right now, the media outcry would be heard from outer space if Barton ever got an England call up.

Shame really. If he did get a call up the international referee’s may not hold the same prejudices that the English ones do. The kind of thing that was said by Graham Poll at the weekend, the same man who who failed to send off a player despite booking him three times in one match.

  8. watching those highlights again just shows how motivated we were defensively as well-on the first goal, look who picks up the ball at the left back position..Joey Barton! Unfortunately the highlights aren’t long enough to show the very few chances west ham did create, but in the full match colo absolutely tore apart their attacking movements apart, can’t be long before he starts for argie consistently surely.

  9. I’m not so sure Toonsy, the media and the english football fans are fickle b@stards, judging on the quality or lack of quality in the England squad, ignoring Barton’s clear ability is madness-it won’t happen under Fabio, but if Arry gets the job then I think he could well have the balls to push it through-and hey, if Barton scores the winner then he’ll be a true and through english hero..*cough* Gerrard *cough*

  10. Yesterday I thought the game would be a good gauge on pardew and I have to say I’m extremely impressed. The lads where after it from the word go and wet spam couldn’t keep up. You have to give credit to pardew because these were the kind of games that gave us problems early on under St Hoots. Add the fact we had a couple key players out and the lads haven’t had proper training in a while due to conditions on the training pitch, and the result looks even more impressive. Bare in mind, when Joey plays like he did yesterday, I don’t care who the manager is, we won’t lose often. IMO, right now the appointment of pardew is looking like a good one even though I’ll never agree with the timing and manner that hoots was pushed aside.

  11. It’s a freaking shame
he’s really good and to judge him from the past is not fair even he was sht then

  12. fair play to Best yesterday, he took his chances and made them count. my concern is that we now have a few out injured but i’m sure we will be fine, also looking forward to the game against stevenage, i live not far from there so have some mates who think they are going to beat us but i’m sure we will do well

  13. On best’s performance, I saw the whole match on tele over here and one thing that stood out to me that won’t show on the highlights is the class of his play. He is no where near as dominant as Andy in the air, but his flick ons were deadly accurate. His movement was good and he just had that bit of class that you can’t coach. And of course his finishing was great. Can he perform like that against better sides, idk. But there is more to his game than I thought going into the game.

  14. Have to agree to be honest about Pardew. I think he is doing well considering there was a very real chance the sacking of Hughton could have derailed our season.

On the flipside though, there is nothing to say that Hughton wouldn’t have got comparable results. I guess it’s history now though…..

I sometimes wonder whether the real reason Hughton seemed to err on the side of caution sometimes was because he knew that he was constantly battling for his job and a run of poor results would see him gone at the first opportunity?

Hughton did superbly, but it’s pretty obvious that Pardew is already getting a whole lot more backing from Ashley that Hughton ever did. Shame for Hughton and I’ll always be thankful, but if Pardw helps the club progress I can’t really argue with it.

    Time will tell though.

  18. nee idea what yous are talking about like lol

See SSN reckon Birmingham are in talks with Spurs over Bentley now, wonder if it’s just an inquiry?!?!

      (Quote)

  19. Pardew on SSN there, he says he’s pleased that the club have publically said Carroll isn’t for sale? When asked about Bentley he also said he would be the type of player we’d be interested in for servicing our forwards and that an enquiry was made to a club today. When essentially asked if it was Bentley though, he didn’t deny it, looks like it was definitly him we asked about.

  21. I wouldn’t want Ashley to part with cash for him. Loan for the rest of the season or nowt.

Plenty more tricky, pacey players out there who can put a cross in. If they’re playign hard ball cause they want rid, well fk em!

Move on to the next target

      (Quote)

  22. I’m in the same boat mate, get the impression Spurs will take whatever they can get for him. I don’t want to shell out cash though. If they’re managing to get 7 million for Keane or whatever it is, they’ll be looking to sucker us into over paying for Bentley aswell. No thanks.

  23. ILM aye with you on that one, someone with a bit of fire and something to prove, dont think bentley comes into that,on loan till end of season ok,plenty to look at in summer, jan not the best time to buy players, never liked the way arry does his transfer bis at any time

      (Quote)

  24. No he’s not ‘left-footed’ Magpie May he is just a good striker of the ball with both feet! He normally passes and controls with his right foot. Nice to be able to give him some praise isn’t it. I think a lot of his has to do with him getting his act together as there is no doubt that he has ability (10 goals in half a season at Coventry/ International striker for ROI )
