Who is this mystery player that Newcastle are after?

The man of mystery.
Just who could it be?
The transfer window has been relatively quiet so far, which is understandable given the fact that we are only just about a week into it.

There is a sense though that some big moves could be on the cards as teams look to cement their place near the top of table, or indeed try towards the top of the table.

Newcastle may not be taking part in any of that big business, but it appears that they are willing to at least have a dabble in the transfer market. Hatem Ben Arfa has already signed on a permanent deal, but there could yet be more than just that one signing through the door in January.

That seems to be the case, if you go by what Alan Pardew is saying anyway, as he revealed yesterday that Newcastle have made an enquiry to an unnamed club for an unspecified player. The question that is begging to be asked by pretty much all fans now is just who this mysterious Mr X type player could be.

Now Pardew went on to talk about David Bentley shortly after admitting the club had made an enquiry, so the safe bet would surely be linking the two together. Add the fact that Bentley has apparently been told that he can leave White Hart Lane and you get a recipe for rumours.

Bentley isn’t the only option though as rumours surfaced last night suggesting that Newcastle have had a bid of £1.5 million accepted for Birmingham midfielder, Sebastian Larsson. As yet this is unconfirmed, but the reluctance of Larsson to sign a new deal at St Andrews could point towards him leaving The Blues before the end of the month. Could it be he who rocks up on Tyneside?

Then there is Max Gradel, who has been a hot source of gossip since the middle of December. The Leeds winger has been linked with a switch to Newcastle, although his current boss, Simon Grayson, says that the player is not for sale which should effectively rule him out.

David Beckham……. I won’t even go there!

As Jay Jay pointed out in his article yesterday, a lot of these transfer rumours appear to be linking us with wingers, which is understandable when you have someone like Andy Carroll in your team. Alan Pardew has backed up Jay Jay’s assumption though by saying this when quizzed about the David Bentley rumour:

“I don’t think you need to be a genius to know that crosses will be a big part for us, and a player who can cross the ball with that accuracy would be an important player for us to add to the squad.

The mystery surrounding this player is something that I am sure will keep us all interested. This is different to not expecting anyone to come through the door only to be surprised with a couple of signings. This time we know somebody should be arriving at St James’ Park. The question is – who?

Where are you putting your money?

  4. Aye i agree with that if theres anyone with a better ratio in the lower leagues than Keggy id be surprised, 3 Seasons, 3 division championships and England were a mess when Hoddle was saacked and we did at least qualify under KK.

However, I know what you are saying, putting KK’s name out there was meant to bring out batty, but I seem to have used the wrong type of bait. 😀

  7. Can anyone SERIOUSLY imagine the scenario if Mike Ashley sold Andy Carroll ? He would lose 20,000 regular punters over night and need to go into hiding…or am I over-exaggerating here….there again money talks..

  10. Pardew quote to the chronic

“If they come here and expect to be in the first-team straight away or have those sort of demands, I’m not interested. They have to come here and earn the right to get in this team and do a good job.”

Good sensible quote from the gaffer … and possibly ruling out some particular players (Keane et al) 🙂

  11. why is that CC – so only players who are ars*holes and prima donnas can improve the squad?

So does that mean that tiote brought nowt to the table ???

      (Quote)

  12. i read you comment wrong … but doesn’t it indicate that we were not in for those players from the outset ??

Why put a negative spin on a straight forward comment??

  13. ROY C. theres all sorts of tales on that one rangeing from £3.2 mill to £6mil,so who knows is there some law where balance sheets are made public at some point?

      (Quote)

  14. Yes he did cost between 3.5 and 4m, but he is neither a prima donna nor an ars*hole.

However in the quote AP is ruling out a certain type of player without reference to price/cost.

  20. Before you get all hormonal, I was just stating how instead of having interest in the likes of Puncheon and Larsson i would be happier if we were looking at improving the quality of the team not the depth of the squad.

Also i certainly wasnt moaning about Tiote who has improved the team not added depth to the squad.

Dont you think Its a shame that we are 8th in the league with a game in hand and instead of trying to progress and bring in players to continue the improvement we are ******* around looking at players are as good if not worse than what we already have at the club…

  21. I’d love to say I feel sorry for him, but I don’t not even 1%. I hope Hodgeson go’s the kop is calling for Dog Leash! Then they really will be in trouble hehe. 🙂

  24. we are ******* around looking at players are as good if not worse than what we already have at the club…

who are we looking at … ??

AP was simply saying he didn’t want that type of player … thats a good thing isn’t it ??

  25. Ice he finish’s school at 3 and no doubt apart from getting his dinner he will be on untill bedtime mate.

  26. Jason Puncheon from Southampton who is on loan at Millwall and Sebastian Larsson from Brum weve apparantly agreed fees.

If neither end up at the club and are stupid rumours then i will apologize for being negative but i cannot see what these two can do that Ryan Taylor, Guthrie, Routledge and Gosling already cant.

It frustrates the hell out of me when i see the mackems trying to sign Muntari and were just beefing up the squad with more average players.

  27. cc – ashley’s aint doing the spurs model – he & a lot of the supporters seem to think we can get into the top 4 or 6 on the cheap in the next 15/20 years – you would think it was their f@cking money being spent.

    probably end in tears anyhoo.

  28. are 5under1and just putting those names out just to keep their sad little fans happy? Do you think there is any realistoic chance of them going there !!

Not sure about the rumours, and I agree if they did come them those individuals would add little to the team/squad.

However lets wait and see what happens, you never know it may be someone that no-one had thought of who may be fantastic 😉

this type of paint. In fact, many companies that sell partition systems offer free planning and installation.
Stays super sharp with just a little touch up now and the with included honing steel.
