Game on! Stevenage v Newcastle.

Broadhall Way.
FA Cup action from Stevenage.
It’s FA Cup time again as the competition starts to hot up with the introduction of the big boys from The Championship and Premier League.

The competition itself started way back in August as semi-professional outfits and amateur sides battled it out to get through the qualifying rounds and into the competition proper. League One and Two sides were introduced back in November, but it is the third round that always grabs the spotlight.

It is one of those League Two teams that Newcastle face this evening as they head to Stevenage for what is a rematch of the tie that occured in the same round back in 1998. The match will be brodcast on ESPN here in the UK, and I believe it is scheduled for transmission in the USA aswell.

For those aren’t fortunate enough to be able to gain acces to a TV set to watch the game on, there will hopefully be some links knocking around where you can catch a stream. A quick look on MyP2P.eu would suggest that there are plenty of streams to be had, but if you find a decent link then please feel free to share it with your fellow Newcastle fans in the comments below.

For a more detailed preview of the match you can read my match preview where you can take in some team news and a bit of background about the fixture.

Newcastle have named a surpsisingly strong starting XI for the match, which indicates their intention to be professional, get the job done, and ensure that we are in the hat for the fourth round draw that will take place tomorrow afternoon.

Howay the lads!

Stevenage: Chris Day, Ronnie Henry, Jon Ashton, Mark Roberts, Scott Laird, Lawrie Wilson, John Mousinho, Michael Bostwick, Stacy Long, Peter Winn, Chris Beardsley.

Subs: Ashley Bayes, Luke Foster, Charlie Griffin, Yemi Obubade, Ben May, David Bridges, Rob Sinclair.

Newcastle: Tim Krul, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini, James Perch, Wayne Routledge, Kevin Nolan, Alan Smith, Joey Barton, Peter Lovenkrands, Leon Best.

Subs: Ole Soderberg, Tamas Kadar, Shane Ferguson, Danny Guthrie, Cheik Tiote, Phil Airey, Nile Ranger.

  1. Talk about over reacting!

We were poor, we didn’t put as much effort in as usual, but that’s the cup for ya.

It only highlights the fact that we have a very poor squad that need additions. Having said that, that’s been the case for three years so I don’t see that changing.

Before we all start complaining about Tiote being out of the derby let’s not forget that their missing their influential midfielder too – Cattermole.

Its not all bad, we can get on with staying up as that’s our main aim.

  4. Batty I would like to think star and Stu would put a better fight up than that shower, otherwise you are going to get hounded for refunds. I have a funny feeling it will be called off 🙁

  5. Terrible performance by all concerned but as Stuart says its all about staying up this year, the squads not good enough to cope with a long cup run imo.

  6. Guthrie cannot get off the bench because of a couple of bad performances despite being our best midfield player last season yet Smith can continue to put in efforts like he has since signing and is ridiculously ahead of him in the pecking order…

  7. Well, I’m still upset about the lost game and Tiote’s suspension, but all of that is taking a back seat to the sadness over just how effing crazy my country is going:

yes, a congresswoman has been assassinated. Apparently some right-wing republican nut-job just walked up and shot her and 17 bystanders as she was meeting her constituents.

  11. Maybe he was just plain loony and I shouldn’t pin it on his political beliefs, but things are really insane over here… every half year or so, someone goes bat-**** crazy, whips out a gun and starts shooting.

It can’t help that the right wing networks and commentators are continually pumping up the crazy rhetoric about “socialist takeovers” and picturing Obama as a Nazi, claiming he’s not really American, etc.

Man, I’m gonna go hang my head in sorrow. Madness. Absolute madness.

  12. Jesus God Almighty, man. I just read that story. WTF are things coming to over here??? These freakin idiot right-wingers think the freakin world is coming to an end just because somebody wants to make some changes. Unbelievable. Why do we have to be so polarized?

  13. I should backtrack from the “right wing” tag because I don’t know anything about the shooter.

But I have to admit that was my first thought because the climate is so polarized and rather scary here at the moment.

Evidently she’s still alive, though in critical condition. There are several dead and many others wounded.

    Again… absolute madness…

Signing off. Good night all. Let’s hope for a better tomorrow…
