Newcastle set to sign Karim Ziani?

Karim Ziani.
Ziani to Newcastle? More rumours.
Newcastle have apparently reached a deal with Wolfsburg for the services of Karim Ziani, according to several overseas news publications.

Now we’ve been here before with regard to news of potential new players reaching us from overseas sources, but on the other hand, this is the exact same way that most of us found out about our initial interest in Hatem Ben Arfa.

I guesss much of this depends on how accurate these respective news outlets are. If they are on the money then it would appear that we have agreed a deal of around £2 million for the Algerian international midfielder who will seal a three-and-a-half year deal, subject to a medical, at some point in the next week.

Ziani is 28 years old and has made 60 appearances for the Algerian national team. He can play in a number of different positions across the midfield or he can play the withdrawn striker role. He is known for his technical ability and creativity rather than his goalscoring ability.

As I said, there is nothing confirmed in this and not much has been heard about it over here in the UK, but if true it would be another face through the door to add to the ranks, and it would give us another option when it comes to unlocking defences.

Ziani is said to prefer a move back to France, where he started his career, although as yet there appears to be little interest and only a loan deal from RC Lens could be on the cards. Ziani would choose a permanant move over a loan though, which has apparently opened the door for Newcastle.

Wages could have proved a stumbling block, but it would appear that the player has lowered his demands to agree a move to Tyneside, again if it is true. I mean for all we know it could be an agent jostling for a move and using the name of Newcastle to stir up some interest.

What do you think?

  5. Aye, I think it was Toonsy who wrote the post. Never backward in coming forward. Mind Hugh’s patter is good too. Think I’ll flick between .org and .info.

  6. Don’t think .org will be around too much longer. Worky’s heart doesn’t seem to be in it and without Toonsy to keep pushing it onwards and upwards it seems to be on its last legs, a bit like Alan Smith.

  10. Source told me yesterday that Pardew had a huge fall out with Ashley over the phone, overheard by the players. It was over false promises, budget restraints and he threatened to walk out.
The players were stunned and it doesn’t surprise me if their lacklustre performance was because of this.
Any of yous who know any of the players will confirm this.
    Worrying.

Has anyone seen tiote’s red, i missed it AP says he is appealing is it worth doing???

  14. Tiote left the ground to make the tackle but he was lunging in to make up the space between him and the ball carrier, he wouldn’t have got to him on his feet. Came in from the side, one footed with no studs showing. He cleanly won the ball, but the bloke from Stevenage was rolling around like he’d lost a leg and he was given a red i reckon, for leaving the ground to make the tackle. It couldn’t have been given for the tackle itself because it wasn’t even questioned whether he’d won the ball or not, it was quite clear it was just a tough tackle, but he got the ball.
If you ask me and alot of other people probably, it’s worth appealing. It wont get overturned if we do appeal it though!

After going to the Match yesterday with my so called mate i feel the Need to tell all what went on after the final whistle, i was standing with my mate who without any notice jumped over the hoardings and onto the Pitch and went straight for the Stevenage players, i see him swing a Punch at a stevenage Player the player collapsed to the floor, i doubt i’ll go to another FA Cup tie after this experiance, sorry “Batty” but i have to name and shame YOU…….His excuse was he had a tenner on Stevenage to win 2-1 <<< own up

  17. Gerrard off, two footed and off the ground. THAT tackle, is a red card. Don’t know how you can compare Tiote to that.

      (Quote)

  18. Ice agree with you 100%. What was he thinking gambling with Tiote when he wasn’t 100% knowing how vital he has become to us? Probably panic set in

      (Quote)

  19. agree, but the Gerrard apologists are saying it was harsh!! Will he ever be condoned for any of his thiggish antics?

  20. Deb, even the commentary team were considering whether it should have only be a yellow. If a challenge in which the player leaves the ground with his studs showing, goes in with two feet and doesn’t win the ball but makes contact with a player is only worth a yellow, we should have been awarded a goal for Tiote’s tackle yesterday.

I told you Hughton was to be sacked just before it occurred and I got slated by you.
I told kinnear was to be manager if fit enough but it was too soon for him.
I told you Pardew was lined up before anyone mentioned his name.
I told you Hughton was lined up for Chelsea, that is still on the cards but Hughton wants reassurances that Ancelotti remains in charge, however Chelsea are not appointing a permanent number 2 until they areconfident Ancelotti can improve the situation.

  22. Just because you say generic possibilities, and then when they happen you claim you’re somewhat in the know, does not wash with anyone.

I could just as easy make a list of thing you’ve said which haven’t come true. But of course, we won’t mention those will we. However the staggering fact that you can’t acknowledge that Chelsea already have an assistant coach is still a bit baffling if i’m honest.
