Game on! Sunderland v Newcastle.

Derby day tension and excitement is set to ensue as Newcastle make the short trip down the A19 to visit the unfortunate souls of Sunderland.

The importance of this match needs no more attention. We all know what it means and we all know that the team must try their hardest to win at the Stadium of Light. The 5-1 last time out will only add to the spectacle, but in reality it will seem a long way away should we suffer defeat today.

Taking the derby-tinted glasses off though, which is hard, Sunderland are a good side when they play at home. Their record backs this up as they have only lost one league game at home this season, so with that in mind, even though it’s not what I want, you would have to say that even if we could only manage a draw it would be a good result. Anything other than defeat basically gives us the bragging rights until next season, and a point away from home takes us another point closer to safety.

The major bit of news is regarding the absence of Andy Carroll and Cheik Tiote for the away side. Those two will be sorely missed, and I’m sure they will be missing the chance of playing in the North-East derby, especially Carroll. Naturally, for more team news and stats you can peruse the NUFCblog.info match preview by clicking this link.

The match will not be broadcast live here in the UK, but it is being broadcast in various countries around the world. A quick look at the list of streams available gives me hope that those unable to watch the game will be able to watch it online, but if any of you guys and gals find a decent stream then please don’t hesitate to share a link with fellow Newcastle fans.

So this it. The 133rd Tyne-Weat derby is about to begin. Newcastle have historically been on top in the fixture. I hope that today we have a case of history repeating and we leave the Stadium of Light this afternoon with at least a point in the bag!

Howay the lads!

Team news is as follows…

  1. Guys, disappointing to throw it away at the end, but we all would have taken a draw before the game. I am happy with the point.

  2. Ah well, I’d have taken it before the game but it feels like we’ve lost.

    Bragging rights still ours though…

  3. Sigh, very disappointing end, but would havetaken the draw to start with, guess we gotta live with it now

  4. What a rotten goal to get a late equaliser. It’s bounced off Gyan and ended up in. Nee question as to who’s superior in the North East though.

  5. Know we should have won it, but I would have taken a draw before kick off. We still have the upper hand over them this season

  6. we should of won, outclassed them all over the pitch,
but i would have settled for a draw before the game, happy with that

  8. gutted – feels like we were robbed, sunderland are sh!te and got a lucky goal that gyan knew nothing about!

  9. Just shows though, we looked powder puff up front and it cost us.

We’ll need to do better up front against Spurs next week.

  10. That’s the worst part, they deserved nothing from the game. Coloccini was outstanding at the back and we’ve conceded a goal that the scorer knew nowt about in the 94th minute. Where did they get 5 minutes from? I’d have taken a draw before kick off but it’s a punch in the teeth having watched the game. They’re bloody sh!te.

  11. Five minutes was fair. There were a lot of stoppages and we can only blame ourselves. Just like the first match, we shut off too early.

  12. what we need now is Spurs to take a massive knock in their confidence and Big Andy to come back fully fit next week!

  13. F*ckers. But to be fair it’s obvious which set of fans are gonna come away the happier. We made them look like complete mugs and they fluked an accidental goal with 30 seconds to go. As everyone’s said, would have taken the draw before and I’m happy we came through the 90 with a result and no key injuries. The lads will be deflated but buoyed by the performance they put in. Happy with that! Bragging rights ours for another year (again) !

  15. a scum fan ran on the pitch and punched harper…ya fka you would of thought they won the fa cup the way brue went on when the scored

  16. Was good to see Bruce running up and down the touchline to celebrate an equalizer. Anyone would think they’d won it.

  17. Can’t believe that, only a few minutes to hang on, bloody lucky inbreeds. Mrs Doubtfire getting fatter every week

  18. By the way, I though Best played well in the second half. In the first half he was anonymous and you can see long balls hoofed up to him aren’t his game.

He could have bagged himself a goal as well if Enrique didn’t let his blood pressure get the better of him. Should have squared it for a tap-in, not go for goal.(sigh)

Ah well, North East superiority is ours and we will be a force once we get our players back.

  19. I won’t mind aslong as we get a result against Spuds and keep getting points. Can’t give a goal away in the last minute though against any team, it’s shooting ourselves in the foot and 2 points oot the window after all that hard work.

  20. El T… difference was Wigan deserved it for trying to sit back on a 2 goal lead with **** players 😉

overall have to be happy with a point, but 5 min injury time? wtf….dorty jammy tramps.

Exactly. Another example of bias from the officials to the home team, I bet if it was 1-0 to them would have been 3mins ET. Bastards! 😮
