Game on! Newcastle v Tottenham.

Charles N'Zogbia.
Charlie opens the scoring last time out against Spurs.
It’s game on as Newcastle take on Tottenham at St James’ Park this afternoon in a match that could prove vital for the aspirations of both sides.

A win for Tottenham and Harry Redknapp and co will be talking of a title charge for the remainder of the season, whereas a win for Newcastle could perhaps signal a late season charge towards a top-half finish in the table, and dare I say it, maybe even aim for an outside shot at European qualification?

It may sound deluded, but if results go our way today we could be sitting in 7th place in the table, with a half decent run of games coming up. Don’t get me wrong, 17th will still do for me, but given that we find ourselves in the top half of the table why shouldn’t we go for it?

Alan Pardew has said that Newcastle United have to be aiming to win games at home, and that he will set his side up accordingly. Call me fickle, but I like that a lot, and agree that we should be looking to try and force the issue at home whoever we are playing against.

He will have to try and get a win with a squad that is down to the bare bones due to injury and suspension, as pointed out in my match preview that you can read by clicking this link. You can also view some handy match stats and fun facts in that review aswell.

I’ve had a quick look and there seems to be a few streams knocking around, but if you manage to find a particularly good one, or one that just works, then please feel free to leave a link to it in the comments box below.

This will be a tough game, but Newcastle are quite capable of springing a surprise, even with a load of injuries. Hopefully they can spring a surprise today and leave Tottenham’s odious manager fuming. Is it just me, or does Redknapp have a face like a Camel’s *****? It’s almost identical to what I imagine one to look like anyway.

I see Rafael van der Vaart has been opening his gob and said that Newcastle play a lot of long-balls. The Dutchman, who usually oartners 6ft 7in Peter Crouch and feeds off his knock-down’s, needs to look at his own side. I’m guessing that ‘Van the man’ is a little bitter because he is being outscored in the league by our own Transit van in the shape of Kevin Nolan.

An honourable mention must go to superstar Argie defender, Fabricio Coloccini, as he celebrates his 29th birthday today. A nice song from the crowd would be good, and three points would be an ideal gift for the curly-haired maestro.

Howay the lads!

Team news is as follows…

  1. Has Ranger missed ANOTHER belter of a chance? from what you lads are saying we’ve missed a few now to kill the game off. Wor Nile missing one doesn’t surprise me.

  2. We can only blame ourselves for that to be honest. We had the chances to kill the game but failed to take it.

Still, it’s a point and I’m happy with that. Spurs are a very good side.

  3. fuking hell our players are fuked because they gave everything they had, im glad its over. Just a kick in the balls for to get pegged back in et again

  4. sorry like, but lack of quality cost us in the end. We had some real good chances to score the second goal, just weren’t good enough. Pity but well done the lads, proud of you !!!

  5. That is 4 points dropped in the last week ,

I would of taken draws before each game tho disppointing we couldnt hold on either game.

On a more posivite note we are still unbeaten in the league this year

  6. I agree Dave. A thread-bare squad gave everything and were so close to getting a reward.

I wonder if VDV is going to moan about long balls now given that they equalised from a goal-kick?

  7. f’kin foaming
that’s why we need another striker
chances to kill the game off and we’ve been made to pay.

Aye glad of the point against a good side but f’k me man, stoppage time, twice in a week

  8. Well I only saw the Colo goal but it sounds like we defended really well at times. Still, a sickener to lose yet another late goal. That’s 2 points that should have been 6.

  9. haha, it was always gonna bloody happen eh? Typical. However, I’ve been so impressed with the way we’ve looked over the last few games. An injury-ravaged squad and we’re still doing the business, even if we have lost four points. I think our weakness is attack and not defence; we had about 5 chances in the last ten minutes alone that required a better ball played or decision made, and every time we were lacking. If Ameobi had played in loverboy instead of going for a 50 yard spectacular, if ranger had squared for loverboy, if joey had found ranger etc etc. We need a clinical finisher in the lovenkrands mould, and we need one more midfielder with a creative side to them, and we’ll be laughing I say. Again, gutted to have lost it at the death like that, but we can only learn from it.

  10. nowhere near as heartbreaking as it must’ve felt for west ham to loose 2 points in the last minute! Perspective boys, perspective…

  11. This complete panic mode we go into in the last 5 minutes of games in ridiculous.

Thought Ranger made his own chance and it was a tight angle so dont blame him. Joey giving the ball away and our defence standing off lennon caused the goal, really poor end to a good performance

  12. There were a couple of milestones in this game too:

    –Colocini’s 29th birthday, 100th appearance and 2nd goal
–Perch played and didn’t get a yellow card
–Perch played as a DM, if I saw it correctly

  13. for anyone who didn’t see the game, regarding Ranger’s miss, it was a brilliant pice of skill from himself that created the chance in the first place. But having once beaten the defender he could and should have squared it in the middle…but to be honest you cannot blame the lad, he did really well…

  14. Yet another pathetic, toothless display by our strikers!

How many chances do we need? Joke when our centre half is showing them how to finish!

Just hope we don’t regret all these dropped points as were nowhere near safe!

  15. Freaking horrible.brought tears to my eyes seeing the game.we had so many chances and yet didint convert anyone of them.and what was more depressing was the fact that it is the 2nd time its happened in a week.unreal mates, we would have been sitting comfortably in a europa league spot now if it wasnt for that……

And even though Ranger is a **** and could have squared for Loven at the end…..HE SHOWED MORE THAN WHAT AMEOBI SHOWED IN HIS ENTIRE TIME ON THE PITCH….

  16. Ranger’s dance to get free around Dawson and Cudicini was spectacular. If (if, if, if, if) he’d curved that into the corner it’d be the goal of the season.

Instead, it’s a missed square and two points lost. Fugh.

  17. Perhaps it is a striker we need, or an attacking midfielder to play with benny and carroll in a 3 pronged attack. Let’s be happy with a point against a very good team, a champ league team and we still have a game in hand over the scum, who also have tough games coming up. With an addition or two there’s a change we can close that 5 point gap and sneak into top 6! There’s also the chance the European places will extend to 7th depending on who wins the cups so there’s still alot to play for. Our next games in 11 days and we will hopefully have a couple new faces and some injuries healed. Lifes good at the moment I think

  18. @Bobby Shinton number 9: we might drop down alot of position,as our next match is in FEB. There are still games for other teams in JAN. 👿 😥

  19. bit of a points gap now appearing above us, Spurs and Makems pulling away, right now, it’s looking like anyone from us down could get into a relegation fight.

The league is so close that I don’t think we’re going to know how many points it’s going to take to stay up. Going to go to the wire for a lot of teams I reckon.

Blackpool seemed to have lost their momentum, keep my eye on them.

We could just do with getting a couple of wins on the trott

  20. Premandup
I like your optimism, and I would cautiously agree around that, but still, would like to get them sooner rather than later.

      (Quote)

  21. Too true but I think with the two players mentioned we can play three in the middle and still be creative, with the option of bringing on a winger or Jonas towards the end

      (Quote)

  22. We are feeling Tiote’s absence. In our last two games we have desperately needed his calming presence in midfield. Someone to win the ball and hold possession with either brute strength or a smart pass. The opposition can’t score if they don’t have the ball.

Two sickeners in 7 days!? Surely it’s our turn now!?

Based on the second half we should have won the game. However, based on the 90mins you would have to say it was a fair result. Not as bad as dominating the scum for 90mins and then conceding in the 94th…

  23. I never post on these blogs just read and absorb. I have to say that some of the comments left on the .com blog are just plain embarrassing. I cant remember how many times I’ve shaken my head at the dribble that drips from that particular ”Fans Blog”. Most of them are only Sunshine boys id say. Come out of the cracks when something upsets them.

I really think this is the safe haven of blogs. Common sense and actually footballing knowledge is ten fold here.

Thanks to all who post and construct articles. Pleasure reading actually sense for a change. Keeps me sane at work 😆
