We’re going right to the wire this transfer window.

Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew
Pardew still working on transfers.
It’s looks like us Newcastle fans will have to wait until the window is about to close before we see any new faces at the club.

It doesn’t really matter of course as we don’t actually play again until after the window slams shut, but it would have been nice to act early and get one or two players throiugh the door to boost the squad.

Or are we doing it right? We’ve been told by various managers that players become available as the window moves on. One transfer for one team can lead to another player becoming available for another team and so on. Is this why we are leaving it late this window?

Either way, and for whatever reason, it looks like we will have to have to continue the wait for new signings at Newcastle if you go by what Alan Pardew said today.

“We are still just looking at making offers and making calls,” Pardew told nufc.co.uk. “There will be some activity in the last few days of the window and I hope we will be part of that.”

“As much as we want a player – and we actually want two with Wayne (Routledge) going – it has to be right. We will not rush into anything. That is the most important thing, and we are still looking at our squad as well.”

“Andy hopefully won’t be too long, and Cheik will be coming back soon so that will give us a big boost.”

So there you go. What can we take from that? Well we can assume that there is a possibility of two players coming in by the time the window shuts at 11pm on Monday, although we will have to wait and see whether or not that is accurate, or just who those players could be.

It’s a big leap of faith for Alan Pardew as this approach is different to the one we had become accustomed to. Under Chris Hughton everything was played down and kept quiet. Nobody knew who or where we were looking and he never really put his neck on the block by mentioning numbers. It worked by all accounts.

Pardew’s approach is different and has it’s own merits of course, such as opening up a line of communication between the club and the fans without really revealing too much information. This is why it is important that Pardew and the club stick to what is being said as there is enough mistrust around at the moment. If we end up with nobody then a proportion of the fans will feel lied to again which will crank up the pressure.

It also gives us lot more to talk about and allows us to speculate further, which some people hate but some people love. Time will tell if any of the speculation is true of course.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see again, as ever.

  1. Ice – I had my wedding reception in a Mason’s hall. I got some photos of the inner sanctum who apparently is a big no no.

  2. Thing is, it’s only going to get worse to be fair now the press know we are apparently looking. It doesn’t bother me mind as I find most of it funny 😆

  3. Enrique seems quite settled and happy at the SJP. The only fear I would ever have of him leaving is if we made no progress over the next couple years as a club, or if Real or Barca came in for him, which could happen one day.

Regarding pardew’s words, very happy that we are looking to bring in two players. i would assume it would be 2 versitalwinger types

  4. Quick poll. If I was to add a league table to the side, would people prefer a full table (1st to 20th) or a partial table that tracks where we are (so it will do like 6th to 10th at the minute)?

    Thoughts please.

  5. I see Sam Twatterface has stuck the boot into Andy Gray? He wasn’t very popular apparently 🙄

Neither are you mate, now let me have a go on your mrs 👿 😈

  6. Blackpool are chasing Charlie Austin. 🙄

I think whole league is better, then we can see which teams are demn for relegation. 😈

  7. Ice – I sincerely hope you’re wrong on both accounts. No offence, like!

We have enough attacking, central midfielders to re-stock the entire league, and the last thing we need on a tiny budget is to pay the salary of another one – let alone a petulent twit.

As for strikers, again, we have loads.

Meanwhile, we have no specialist right-wingers and only one specialist left-winger. When Barton’s out for some reason, we can currently look forward to Raylor as our only option, or possibly putting Jonas over there and young Fergie in. If Jonas AND Barton are out, then we play the club mascot.

    Wingers, please. Two.

  8. Toonsy – whole league, please.
Also, for the mobile version, can you put timestamps back on as well as dates? Helps to know when the last comment was.
While I’m at it: any chance of sequential post numbers so we can refer easily to other posts?
    (I don’t ask much, me…)

Toonsy I think you will need to learn to be patient mate and take one step at a time as if you try to do to many things and it gives you problems you will get fuked off with it 😉

      (Quote)

  12. Dave – It’s not really a problem to be honest and if it takes time to sort then so be it 🙂

It’ll get there though. The most important thing, above all else, is that the content is spot on. All the rest is just tinsel 🙂

  13. Toonsy just as long as it dosn’t become a real pain in the *** to ye as you are supposed to get fun out of it as well as grief 😆 .

      (Quote)

  17. Oh thats why the pikey that runs this blog cant put comment numbers on because he cant count, or is it because you havn’t worked out how to do it yet ❓ 😆
    Keep tinkering you tinker

  18. Ice – yep, totally agree on both points.

Does anyone else get the impression that people will always clamour for players who are going to be exciting, rather than what the club actually needs?

And is anyone else annoyed that Van Aarnie has gone out on loan but not to us?

Bit miffed about that, me. Praps he didn’t like it ‘Oop North laaahk.’

Hang on…. Leicester??? I’d rather be based in Helmand. 😯

      (Quote)

  19. Jay wa aboot ye mucker 😀
Toonsy theres nowt wrong with admitting that ye cant do it 😆 plus it means ye still have an excuse to play with yer knobs 😀

  20. Theyll have a canny pair of full backs Leicester, Kyle Naughton on the other sides a good little player, attacking right back, I was over the moon when we were linked with him before Sperms 🙄 😡 as ever jumped in on players they dont need and pinched them….

According to 5live the other day Chelski aint impressed with the academy players who were promoted this season, Van Arnie was named, Maybe we should try in the summer ??

      (Quote)

  21. Whumpie when van an was here it was with a mandatory start clause. Like Dave said. I would assume that they would want that again and there is no way we would accept that.

Toonsy full table for me. Goals assist, cards and clean sheets would be nice too.

Not really. Im not expecting anybody and certainly not for the sake of it. It has to be the right player, which hardly ever happens in Jan. I won’t feel lied to or taked advantage of or anything and I think anybody who does is a dope! I trust Pardew 100% I have sussed him long ago and he is the right man for the job Ashley has it correct again as he has for the last few years.

      (Quote)

  23. So you speak for the proportion of fans then, DJG? You are the voice, yes?

Do you not appreciate that there is still a lot of mistrust? Or do you think that just because you think something, everyonr thinks the same? Get real.

Can you honestly not envisage anyone trotting out the “we’ve been lied to/Pardew is a yes man” kind of lines?

You suss people bloody quick, 7 matches in and already one of the most embarassing days in the 122 odd year history of the club on his CV.

Hughton had the respect of the supporters and players through his succesful playing career and his coaching ability, He further enhanced that reputation with his nigh on impeccable start as a manager and how he dealt with the constant undermining from the chuckle brothers.

Pardew has one hell of a lot to go to convince me that it was right to change managers, Some of the results have been good but nothing that we couldnt achieve with Hughton in charge.
