Meet Jose Enrique’s potential replacement.

Cheikh please?
One of the most important things this summer will be to try and tie down some of our current players who are approaching the end of their current contracts.

One of those players is Joey Barton, and the other one is Jose Enrique. As our only real senior left-back, it is vitally important that he is tied down to a new contract, although there is a growing suspicion that the Spaniard could be off in the summer.

This is why Alan Pardew is apparently lining up a replacement for Enrique should he decide to leave the club in the summer, and it appears that a name has been identified should the worst case scenario happen come the summer transfer window. That name is Cheikh M’Bengue.

It’s been rumoured that Graham Carr and Alan Pardew have both been at a couple of Toulouse matches recently, and with M’Bengue currently playing for Toulouse it could be he that our staff were taking a closer look at.

This isn’t an original link as we were linked with the 22-year-old in the summer and a fee of around £4 million was mooted if I recall correctly. Being honest, I’m not going to fob you guys off and claim to be a fountain of knowledge with regard to this player, but a quick bit of digging around leaves me a bit feeling a bit apprehensive if we were to firm up any interest and sign the lad.

He’d probably be best described as a ‘tough tackler’, and I say that because of his past disciplinary issues. In the 2007-2008 season, M’Bengue was banned for 13 games for seriously injuring an opponent from the Monaco youth team after a dangerous tackle.

Then in 2009, he was banned for a further three months for seriously injuring a Monaco senior player. The tackle only got a yellow card at the time, but the suspension came later which kind of makes a mockery of the Premier League when they claim that FIFA say they can’t take action if the referee has seen the incident.

Maybe he just doesn’t like Monaco for some reason? 😉

It is slightly worrying though isn’t it? I mean we have a habit of picking up yellow cards anyway, so could you imagine what it would be like with M’Bengue and Tiote in the same side? I would hazard a guess that we would be at the bottom of the fair play league anyway!

So it’s just a rumour, but it does hopefully indicate that Newcastle are at least planning for the summer. Hopefully, it won’t come to this as Enrique will sign a new deal and everything will be happy ever after.

Until then though, the speculation will continue…..

  2. Good LB’s are like hen’s teeth. If we lose Enrique we will be worse off for sure. This guy doesn’t exactly seem like an attacking LB but I’ve never seen him play.

  5. Can see Wolves winning this one. Spurs could have their mind on CL this week.

If Wolves do win that leaves us only 5 points clear of relegation zone.

  6. Stu, every other result seems to have went against us this weekend so reckon Wolves are in for the win

  7. Can I just make this point – I believe the reason we’re now looking over our shoulders is because we don’t have any strikers who can be relied upon to put the ball in the back of the next consistantly,

We had most of the game against Blackburn but couldn’t score, the same against Bolton and our strikers again yesterday looked a little light weight.

Not to mention Fulham when I cannot remember us getting a shot on target.

  8. I’ve been touting him for donkies now but I’ll do it again. Emilio Izaguirre from Celtic for left back. I would imagine the same sort of price range, already used to the style of football in Britain and top class.

Hell, get both. We need back up for Enrique as it is now and a replacement if he does leave.

  9. I don’t think thats the reason at all. Best has scored 6 in 8 starts something like that. Who are we gonna get that will score more than that, plus others have chipped in with goals and we are one of the top scoring teams in the league. Our problem is inconsistancy and having not enough options when we lose 2 or 3 key players. We are relying on kids on the bench when other prem teams have a strong 2nd choice to call on. I don’t think we’ll get sucked down to the bottom though. The next 2 games are both winnable and we don’t need many more points now.

  10. I said yesterday, if you look at the stats for Leon Best this season, his age and the length of contract he still has with us – we would be looking at £15m in the summer for him.

That’s not being silly either, his goal rate is closer to one per game than it is closer to one in every two, he is 24 years old and he still has about 3 years on his deal. We would make a huge profit on him as we sold Carroll for the same form really.

  11. If someone is scoring close to 1 per game consistently….why would you want to sell them?

      (Quote)

  12. I don’t want to sell him, The Legend of Best should stay.

You just know, however, if he keeps this rate up for the rest of the season, the papers will talk a move into reality like with Barton and Enrique. If someone does that goal rate, people will sniff about him and Ashley will think about profit margins.

Just saying it before anyone else does.

  13. Would have preferred a Tottenham win to keep Wolves down at the bottom but a draw is better than a Wolves win for us.

  17. Ice normally I am a big believer in if the players dont want to be here let them go, but I dont think its a normal situation that the players find themself in with us. According to Joey everything was in place and he was saying that he would sign that week, that was a few weeks ago so the goalposts must have been moved as I do believe he was ready to sign.
No matter what you think of Joey he is honest and says what he thinks so something has happened 😕

  18. Dave – Started writing an article and just looked at it again and hmmm 😆

    I think I’ll leave it tonight 😉

  21. icedog….don’t like it mate, we’re making it way too difficult for ourselves. At the end of the day I think we’ll be ok, but what an eventful season so far !

    Remaining fixtures…
Home – Wolves, Manure, Brum and West Brom
Away – Stoke, Villa, Blackpool, Liverpool, Chelsea..

  22. toonsy – Explain your comment that you left on Worky’s blog for me.

You said Deb, BBM and Stardust knew what Worky was like. What is that?

    I’m intrigued now.

  23. MM I dont like it either, said before 14th to 17th,is what ime looking at with a poor run,all teams have injurys not just us,but for me with no m/f no punch up-front we were out-thought y/day 😥

      (Quote)

  24. Stuart – If you think that any of them really wanted to give up writing then fair enough. I happen to know that Worky just fecked them all off once too often. I was warned, and stuck by Worky…..

Turns out that they were all right. It’s no coincidence that every single writer on org has pissed off is it, surely? It’s also no coincidence that two of the three have carried on writing elsewhere.

I’d love to meet that ******* face to face. He’d be mincemeat in seconds and I could show him what I really really think of people spreading **** about me. Mind you, I know where he lives so I may just pay the ****** a visit!

One apology from him is all it takes, but much like the explanation of where the begging money went, I doubt that will be forthcoming….

  26. Hitman – Please accept my sincere apologies, and Stardust, and Bowburn if you’re reading…..

It would that all of you were bang on the money all along. I backed the wrong horse for nearly 700 articles.

  27. Big Dave,

Aye true mate, need to start lacing them with calpol to mellow them down.

Trying to write and concentrate with them about is hard as you read it back and you have included ‘stop that’ , ‘don’t do that’ , ‘put that down’ and ‘just a minute’ in every sentence!
    🙄

      (Quote)

  28. toonsy – I’m not disputing your comments, mate.

I just don’t really know what’s been going on.

What does he do to people that forces them to go elsewhere?

He does have obvious personality flaws but don’t know about anything else.

Regarding the money, I really have no idea what it costs to run a blog but is it really worth ripping people off for just £500? Surley goes on the blog?

But you’ll be the best person to tell us what it could be spent on…

      (Quote)

  29. Moreno I know how you feel mate 😆 and it dosn’t get any easier mate 😉
Toonsy dont beat yersel up about it and just put it down to experience mate 😉

      (Quote)

  30. Stuart – Being honest, I have no idea what it will be spent on, but that is kind of not the point. As you say, it’s only £500, that a bloke who admitted that he had money problems said that he needed to keep the blog running…….

Now in no way does it take £500 quid to run a blog, in fact to run this place for a year cost £100. It costs me more now but only because it’s been bankrolled by personal wealth. Granted he never asked for that much, but then you have to remember that I have e mails between him and Hugh that reveal that the site improvement cost nowt, and that was why the money was collected wasn’t it?

Now that is fraudulently claiming money…..

As for people, basically he ***** on people and lies. he did it woth Stardust, Bowburn, and now he is doing it with me.

  31. well i think a lot of us gave to blog thinking we were helping to save it for us all to enjoy and give or views,if it wasnt used for that its sad,but dont regret giveing it for one minute,at the end of day it was 90% of toonsy writeing anyway, cheap at twice the price 😉

      (Quote)

  32. Dave – I’m not beating myself up. I just think that when people dug deep to give him money they deserve to know where it went. I know it didn’t go where he said it was going to go, so why the secrecy…

      (Quote)

  33. Ice – Cheers for the sentiment mate 🙂

It’s just boiling my **** a little that he is trying to flip the blame around from himself. I mean it;s not me who has been fraudulently claiming money is it?

      (Quote)

  34. Que sera…

Don’t suppose we’ll ever know what it really went on – only that he did have money problems…

  37. Ice I love the way you always see the brightside mate, I was going to say never change but at your age I cant see the old dog learning new tricks 😆 Richie made me say the bit about age 😀
Toonsy I have said to you before that I found it funny that while you were there you seemed to do over 90% but from you left there seems to be 3 or 4 covering what you done. and I did find it very annoying that he tried to get sly digs into you saying that you copied .org when infact I think .org is more like .com and this was to Chuck the one that Worky used to abuse on a regular basis. But after he accused me of being Racist ( when he has never meet me in his life so didn’t know what colour or creed I was) nowt surprises me about him.
It was obvious that he will try to accuse you of trying to ruin his blog but if truth be told no one needs to do that as he is doing it all by himself.
