Fancy a freebie?

Freebies galore!
Much of the focus over the next few months will be on just who NUFC will be bringing into the club, providing we can secure Premier League football for another season first of course.

For some it will the ultimate indication of where are heading as a football club. If we have a good window then we can look up a little, but if we have another bad window and lose more key players without replacing them then we can safely suggest that the ambition of the club is not to try and climb the league table in the immediate future. That’s how I view it anyway.

With a wedge cash to apparently spend, or not if you have that viewpoint, there is a likelihood that we will actually buy some players over the summer months. It’s not the only way that Newcastle can get new players into the club though, and there are cheaper options that should at least be looked at first.

You know how it is. You go shopping at Tesco or wherever and you go buying your usual groceries, but you walk past the stuff that is going out of date that day and you just have to have a look. It’s human nature, or maybe it’s just me? If it is just me then stop being a snob! So with that in mind I’ve managed to track down a list of players who will be out of contract in the summer. Have a look and see if you fancy any.

Premier League: Manuel Almunia, Luke Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, John Carew, Sebastian Larsson, Lee Bowyer, James McFadden, David Vaughan, Johan Elmander, Jose Boswinga, Zoltan Gera, Danny Murphy, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen, William Gallas, Jonathan Woodgate, Marek Cech, Jonas Olsson, Giles Barnes, Rob Green, Jonathan Spector, Matthew Upson, Victor Obinna, David Jones, Michael Kightley.

Now I don’t know how accurate that list is, but off the top of my head I can’t think of many who have actually signed new deals at their current club. If you know different then please feel free to shout up and correct it. Likewise, if you know of any that have been missed then why not throw their name into the mix?

I’ve also found some notable players from around Europe that will be out of contract in the summer as well. Take a look.

Europe: Alesandro Nesta, Andrea Pirlo, Anthony Vanden Borre, Banel Nicolita, Hamit Altintop, Luis Garcia, Marek Jankulovski, Mario Santana, Massimo Ambrosini, Miroslav Klose, Oscar Wendt, Phillipe Mexes, Piotr Trochowski, Pippo Inzaghi, Reto Ziegler, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Sylvain Marveaux, Taye Taiwo, Thomas Hubschmann, Tim de Cler, Vicente.

Now there is a fair amount of players from both lists that are over 30 which would certainly lessen their appeal. I’m reluctant to call them old as I’m not too far off them myself, but in terms of football they are getting on a bit.

There are certainly a few that I would consider though. Johan Elamnder would be one, as would Victor Obinna, Hamit Altintop and Taye Taiwo. Whether any of them would come is a different matter entirely of course.

Do any of them float your boat?

  1. Christ, Vanden Borre is a freebie?

He is just what we need on the right side. He is 50% right back, 50% right wing, he is good at both.

We need this guy for a freebie. Toonsy, sign him up.

  2. I’ll phone Sir Alan Pardew up soonest and get him on it.

Wasn’t he supposed to be **** hot at one point? VandenBorre I mean?

  3. I reckon we should cement the spine of the team by bringing in a defender, midfielder and striker. Woodgate, Bowyer and Owen would be my choice.
    😀

  4. Vanden Borre was hot stuff a year or two ago – that’s why it was a shock he went to Portsmouth on loan. He was really good for them but injury stopped him playing as often as he could have.

He would cover Danny Simpson and he our right winger in one, free swoop. He’s only 23 too. Epic deal if we could do it.

  5. None in EPL i want them to go NUFC.

However for europe:Hamit Altintop,Miroslav Klose, Piotr Trochowski,Ruud van Nistelrooy,Taye Taiwo.

    😎

    KLOSE!~~~ 😆

  6. Wish someone would transfer Nial Quinn back to the land of the blarney, he is getting right on my tits at the moment and seems to be the self proclaimed Bob Geldorf of football.
He crawled out of the woodwork at the weekend following their fabulous, well deserved, hard fought ( bloody lucky) point at Arsenal, he was on soccer Sundays couch with Brucey baby basking in the glow of that triumph and has today been in front of a House of Commons Select Committte whingeing about money going out of the game via agents and giving an expert view on the game.
This from the the man who said he despises his own fans?
Can we assume from his constant harping on about finances that his plastic club is in a spot of bother financially?

  7. Bobby – It doesn’t take any word from Quinn to see how in the shyte they are. They have paid over the top on fees and wages and are at a level where they have an average team (good for them lol) but can’t afford to get the players to get to that holy grail of theirs ‘the next level’. Their financial results summed that up perfectly.

  8. Though Klose would want ridiculous wages, he’d probably be good for us. I’d have to say no ta, though. Because of wages.

Elmander would be great though. As would Taiwo, if we lose Jose. Hell, even we don’t lose Jose! Taiwo needs to rekindle that spark that he had a couple years ago, and the French league just ain’t doing it. I think with our lot, he’d probably be on fire again.

And please God, let the fat-*** sign Gervinho. We need more Ivorians. lol

  9. Maybe Elmander if we sign one striker for a decent fee and Obinna would be a good option, he’s very hit and miss at the minute but he’s only 23 and would be a good option for the winger/centre forward position. Of course from Europe Taiwo would be great if José was to leave but i can’t see him coming as number two.

  10. Toonsy eating the out of date stuff 😆
Back on topic I think if they are free there will always be a good reason why the’re free, I know that you could maybe pick up an odd player heree or there but most of them will have baggage or they will need a suitcase to fit their wages in that they are looking 😀

  11. Toonsy, I thought that they saved the out of date stuff for the bindippers like 😯 😆

  12. Dave, yeah I hear that. Wish I was off now too. I was at work all day yesterday, then had a masonic meeting immediately afterward that lasted all freakin night. By the time I got home, it was past time for bed. Feels like I’ve been at work for two days straight now lol

  13. Only Arsenal’s Robin van Persie has scored more Barclays Premier League goals than Newcastle’s Leon Best in the year 2011

    Interesting that

  14. the two players that shout out to me are taiwo and cisse, a great left back with a cracking shot, and a striker with prem experience. to get these two people on a free at the end of the season would be great (providing we stay up that is) 😆

      (Quote)

  15. Vanden Borre wont come. He left England to play back in Belgium again because of his kids. Wouldn’t mind Obinna he has great athleticism and can cover both wing and attack. Kightley would be a gamble, sort of like with Gosling, coming off serious injury, but he is an excellent prospect.

Get in Ruud van Nizzle and Inzaghi and watch the goals flow

  16. 😆

Apart from a couple most of them will be the equivalent of other clubs Alan Smith’s. Wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.

  17. It’s interesting isn’t it. There’s usually only ever two reason’s why a players contract is running down. Either …….

    A) The club wants rid of them and won’t offer an extension.

    B) They think they can go to a bigger club and get paid more money.

      (Quote)

  18. That’s a freckin weird stat. Even without Joey around, we’ve produced enough opportunities for Best to finish a few.

I really don’t rate Best at all, to be frank. He’s barely average at every aspect of the game. I think he’s mostly just been in the right spaces, which granted is part of the game, but no particular skill of his impresses me at all.

      (Quote)

  19. Whoops, Vanden Borre might wanna come, had him confused for Van Damme. Vanden Borre would be good competion for Simpson.

  21. Ice – No worries. I’m going to put them all up in a gallery and put them up in an article at some point, but it will take time to do it as there are loads to do 😉

  22. Reet, I’m away to the grind for a bit. Catch you all later. Got naff all to do again so will be on again soon 😆

  23. A lot of clubs are after Marveaux but I would be happy with him. I’d take Taiwo and Altintop or Elmander as well- we’ve been linked to Altintop in the past.

Owen’s worth a punt. You know that he will give his all for the shirt, will score clutch goals and never get injured. 😯

      (Quote)

  24. We can sign Adriano now but he can’t play until next season.

Free transfers are only eligible to play if they were without a club before the end of the transfer window. Adriano wasn’t, so he isn’t eligible.

  25. If Arsenal come back from this….I’ll eat my hat.

I will have to buy one, granted, but when I do I’ll eat it

  26. That’s the Bendtner we’re supposedly interested in for £10m this summer? No thanks, he’s a ****.

I see the media outlets are already spinning this that Arsenal were cheated but as usual, the media can’t accept that the Premiership doesn’t have the best teams. It’s like they can’t accept the reality that other teams are better.

Arsenal didn’t even have a shot nevermind a shot on target. There goal was an own goal. They were an embarrassment tonight.

Nevermind, Premiership teams are always cheated in Europe….

      (Quote)

  27. I love Arsenal fans. They don’t even have a shot (on or off target) and they still feel they should have won.

  29. Elmanders **** – he pulled his finger out this season to justify a move or new contract, kin Nolan has scored more than a no9 striker and best will prob do same – stay well clear
