Pardew “half hopeful” on Jose.

Hopes over Jose.
Alan Pardew has admitted that Jose Enrique is still a fitness doubt ahead of the weekend match against Wolves.

It had been reported previously that Jose’s hamstring strain was “not too serious” and that he should be alright for the Wolves game. That appears to not be the case any more and Jose will be assessed throughout the week in an effort for him to prove his fitness ahead of what is one of the most important NUFC matches of the season.

It’s not all bad news though as Leon Best and Jonas Gutierrez should both be fit to feature at St James’ Park on Saturday. On the current injury situation, Pardew had this to say:

“I’m half hopeful that Jose makes it,” Pardew told The Chronicle. “Jonas is fit, and Joey Barton has another week of training under his belt. It’s just whether Jose makes it through. Leon Best’s only a slight worry for me.”

If Jose doesn’t make it I expect we’ll see Shane Ferguson make a full Premier League debut, and if he plays anything like he did at Stoke then I’ll have no worries about the lad, especially if he has Jonas in front of him helping out with the defensive side of things.

Another potential selection headache is just who to play in the centre of defence. Mike Williamson has the shirt at the minute, but Steven Taylor is waiting in the wings to capitalise. I’d probably stick with Williamson to be fair as I don’t think it’s a fantastic idea to break up a central defensive pairing ahead of an important game such as this. That plus I don’t want to see Taylor backing off an attacker like they are wielding a knife again.

Stephen Ireland is available for selection although I doubt that a starting role will be afforded to him due to his lack of match sharpness. It’s a shame really because if Ireland was fit to start it would mean that we could push Kevin Nolan further up the pitch and get him into the positions where he can do his damage. Since he has been pushed back into midfield his goals have dried up, and we need goals at the minute.

Just my two-penneth worth anyway….

As I said in an earlier article about the NUFC team news, the lines of communication regarding injuries and what not have been opened, much like I thought they would, and no doubt we will hear more as the week progresses.

Hopefully it’s all good injury news!

  1. Fergies a winger and not a natural left back, he got caught a few times by Stoke although I have no doubts about his ability going forward – I’d expect wolves will give him a hammering if he plays LB

  4. Just got bbc newcastle on and Pards interview finished.

What cheques was his mouth writing that his **** can’t cash this time? 😉

(Good to hear Ando as well 🙂 )

  5. I think he was as honest as possible but on these sort of things the real juicy questions never really get asked. Deffo think a main reason Ashley got him in was because of his PR and bs abilities.

  6. Ice watch out for Batts as im 99% sure he asked you to strip the lead of the roof, then when you ask him for your pay he says no because it was the paint on the door you were supposed to strip, I think he is trying to stroke you 😉

  7. Agree Andrew, answered everything and was honest about the summer as he can be without naming names.

  8. What I liked most was he pritty much said himself he has to be judged in the summer. Glad he mentioned Carr and his scouting 🙂

  9. So apparently we’re well on the way to spending the 35 mill. are in talks with two players who are out of contract in the summer, and we’re allowed to talk to them so that mean they are from abroad… had scouts at three international games at the weekend and have scouts at ten games this weekend.

I’ll get an article up about it asap but i’ve just been shat on at work and have to go in now and face a long long night so it could take a while 😥

  10. He said we were already talking to players and agents of a couple who are out of contract at the end of the summer, overseas players, most likely marveuax and taiwo

  11. Silly question but does the “abroad” thing cover Scotland?

Just wondered if that was the case. Not saying it is anyone in the SPL we’re talking to but still, how does the foreign rule apply?

Technically the SPL is a foreign league as it isn’t English, right?

  12. Jobey your a cheat 😆

Denied we bidded for Zog, said that we made a phone call…Not sure if he’s being truthful there mind you.

  13. FJ – Good question 😕

Gut feeling is that it could apply to Scotland as it’s a different FA so I guess it would stand.

  14. TOONSY what a waste, that clint is quite canny at posting, both being ex wingers we got on well, but can pen a thread, any transfer 😉 in the summer lol

  15. About the two players he mentioned us being in talks with – lets hope one is Taiwo.

  16. A few Rangers players out of contract in the summer too I think. The Rangers defence has proven solid in Europe against far better teams than the likes of Wolves, so I have a feeling we may look at them.

I am sure you can guess I wouldn’t be too into that idea, lol.

  17. Ice – CLiNT is staunch .org. Nee chance of a poach.

I bet he quickly becomes the main writer thought 😉

      (Quote)

  18. FJ – Neither would I. There defence looked better than it is because they parked the bus and put eleven men behind the ball. They wouldn’t have that luxury here.

      (Quote)

  19. Andrew – If one is Taiwo that means Jose is gone surely?

Reet, bit more graft. Committed to the end you see. Even though I’m leaving the bassa’s 😉

  20. Neil Alexander is out of contract apparently. He’s a decent keeper who is happy to be back up.

I could see us getting him and selling Forster to Celtic or something. Is the type of move we make at the moment.

  21. TOONSY pity like the only time i put the odd comment is when he writes, other wise no thanks 😀

      (Quote)

  22. Funky I doubt we would sell Forster and sign a 33 year old to replace him, not the kind of thing we would do.

      (Quote)

  23. We would sign a 33 year old keeper as back up to Harper and loan out either Krul or Forster for first team action and sell the other.

Pure money for Ashley and that is exactly how we work now, lol.

  24. fj,
they reckon celtic are keen on westwood from coventry and cammy bell from killie will go to coventry

      (Quote)

  25. Westwood is a long term link with Celtic. I’ve seen that link since about 2008, lol. I guess since he is free this summer, it is most likely.

Has anyone thought that if Norwich get promoted this season – which is very much a possibility – they will bid to get Forster in? I don’t think John Ruddy will cut it for them in the Premiership next season.

      (Quote)

  26. Yeah, Norwich signed him from Everton. In the games I’ve seen, he has made a few mistakes in each. He even did the mandatory kick the ball to the other team to score flub I think.

I’d have more faith in big Fraser than Ruddy.

      (Quote)

  27. We should just loan Forster back to Norwich or Celtic for another season, Harper only has one more year left on his deal.

Once he retires make Fraser number one.

      (Quote)

  28. Where does Krul fit in here though?

He did alright on the whole this season when Harper was injured but I never felt totally secure with him.

      (Quote)

  29. Depends on his ambitions funky, if he has the same as Harper he will sit on the bench and just wait for his chance. If he wants to play some games he should leave in the summer.

  30. Last game of the season against Chelsea being shown live on Sky…hope it’s an end of season game with nothing at stake…for both clubs… 😐

  33. It will be up soon MM.

It was better than I was expecting, I thought they would filter a lot of the questions but there were some frank ones and he was honest in his answers.

  34. Big D…cracking on yesterday with toonsy, he thought he could get his mitts on it… Would be interested to hear what Pardew had to say to be honest. I’m still undecided on Pardew, but curious what he had to say… bollocks or not… 😆 😆
