Newcastle looking to add youth and pace over the summer.

The Iceman on Toon's hitlist?
Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew has lifted the lid a little on just what he is planning to add to the squad over the summer.

With Premier League status all but assured (article about that later) we can at least focus one eye on summer improvements. The focus of those new players will be pace and youth, according to Pardew, who is looking to establish some success and stability at United.

“We’re looking at a younger striker,” Pardew confirmed. “We’ve got Ben Arfa, we want a younger team here.”

“If you look at some of the successful clubs across Europe there is youth in those teams, as well as pace. That is something I am looking to introduce at Newcastle.”

Youth and pace sound good to me, but its getting those players who can do just that as well as adapt quickly to life in the Premier League. A whole host of names are likely to be linked over the summer, although it’s likely that we are actually only interested in a select few of them.

So what can we gleam from this then? Well obviously we are looking at a striker who is young and has a bit of pace and can play as a main striker as Hatem Ben Arfa is going to be our number 10 according to Pardew.

Can you think of a striker who fits the criteria?

One name who won’t be turning up at St James’ Park is Nigel Reo-Coker. The rumour mill churned that particular story out during the week, but Pardew has distanced himself and the club from any move for the out of favour Aston Villa midfielder.

“There’s no truth in the reports that we’ve contacted Nigel,” said Pardew. “There’s no negotiations and he won’t be coming here,”

It’s funny what a difference a game makes. If we’d have lost yesterday then I’d be moaning about us looking too far ahead and how we should be concentrating on the job in hand. One win and that opinion has changed. I’m actually glad that they club have seemingly been planning ahead and I’m quite looking forward to it myself. Fickle? 😀

Anyway, back on point, who could the striker that we are looking at be?

If appearances in the premier league only count as first team someone better tell ryan giggs he doesn’t hold the record number of appearances for manure

  2. Also what happened with the ref when Lovenkrands was totally annihiated in the box. if it had been anywhere else it would have been a stone wall freekick. Mike Dean picked the ball up walked towards the circle and let them kick it to Harper. How was that not a penalty! 😯

  3. TlR – I said Championship appearances as well, of which there were none, zero, zip. Here, just to make sure you don’t miss it again….

Not in the Premier League he hasn’t. In fact not even in the Championship.

Of course, if you are so intent on not taking my word for it you can argue with the stats of it if you like?

  4. Blackpool aren’t a great team anymore are they sky?….. Novelty has completely worn off, i’d like to see them down.

  5. They have probably lost this one today but have a punchers chance of staying up. Some of the better pundits predicted they would be rock bottom and probably relegated by the last seven games. Would rather see Villa slip into bottom three than them or Blackburn who play ugly football

  6. I hope Blackpool stay up tbh, would rather Birmingham, West Ham and Villa went down. I want as big a teams as possible to go down as long as it’s not us.

  7. Blackpool fans should be worried now, just one point above the bottom three.

Anyone see before the Fulham game kicked off, showed the league table from the first of Jan – Sunderland were fourth bottom. 😆

Lets hope City can beat the scum to top off a very good weekend for us.

I think we should change our target now from survial to finishing above s##derland.

The target changes every week. 🙂

Would really like to beat Villa and keep them down the bottom. 😉

  9. I would love to finish above them.

Bruce said after the 5-1 just wait until they come to our place, after the 1-1 he said we’ll finish above them. Stupid p*ick.

  11. Toby wonder what it would have been, such a shame he never got to play it. Saying that he seemed so happy when they made it 1-1 im surprised he didn’t play it anyways.

If we finish above them…It would be funny as out, all the mackems thinking they were gunna get into Europe. 😆

  13. TlR – Must admit, I haven’t really been watching it. It’s been on but I’ve not heard his name mentioned.

  14. “Next season? He will play a central role in our attacking line. I want to use him as a playmaker, a number 10, just behind one forward.

“I am convinced he is able to score between 10 and 15 goals a season.”

Pardew added: “We will think about how to protect him during matches.

Could be a good idea but he could do a job out wide aswell. I wonder who Pardew thinks the one forward will be.

  17. Any reason why people want Blackpool to go down?

Holloway is just the new Keegan with his charismatic, emotional interviews and inability to defend but great attacking team, they also came up from promotion and stormed into the top flight and won over neutrals. We should be respecting Blackpool and hoping they stay up.

Villa, Wolves and West Ham can do one as far as I am concerned.

  18. What have I done? Can someone clear this up for me because I haven’t got a fecking clue 😯

      (Quote)

  19. I’d like Blackpool to stay as I think the will be weaker next season than the likes of West Ham, Wolves etc 😎

      (Quote)

  20. Blackpool will need to improve the stadium even more and have about 2 or 3 straight seasons in the Premiership before they can spend big money on higher quality players.

Holloway will be able to improve wage structure each season but they just can’t afford to buy “big” players with the small income the club generates. They won’t be a huge threat where as the likes of West Ham and Wolves are more stable and able to compete with the level we’re looking at currently if they stay up.

Let’s all cheer for Blackpool over those mobs.

    Patrick van Aanholt
@davshaw Newcastle is a great club with amazing fans, but at the moment i am a Chelsea player and happy so it is hard for me to answer this!

  24. Breaking legs without punishment and both Newcastle and Sunderland crumpling within 15 minutes against them.

Man City own the North East apparently.

  25. wasn’t Van Aanholt a popular lad, and a good player whilst on loan at the toon ? Would be a canny aquisition if you ask me

      (Quote)

  26. It’s funny how things turn out. A few people were calling to sign Van Aanholt on loan again in January (myself included) and I still want us to sign him permanently in the summer – BUT

If we did, then when Enrique got hurt, we wouldn’t have used Ferguson and we wouldn’t have discovered not only his talent at this level, but his ability to be trusted at this level too. He has to be our top youngster now, over Kadar, Vuckic and the others.

Fate makes things turn out ok in the end sometimes.

      (Quote)

  27. So let’s hope Paddy’s tweet is a sign we have a chance to get him in the summer and it lets us put Fergie in the left wing role he is built to play in.

It’s all good in the hood then.
