A quick site update….

Up, up and away.
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these updates to let you all know how the site is getting on, so now seems as good a time as any to give you all a brief update if you’re interested.

Last week was the busiest week this site has had since it’s inception. Day by day the record for people visiting the site was beaten, to the point where every day was the busier than the last culminating on Sunday, which was the busiest day ever. It’s an upward trend which is very nice to see.

In terms of Google, the site is moving up the rankings rather rapidly and is starting to generate traffic all on it’s own. This is a good thing as strong search engine results mean a stronger site for all of us going forward.

With regard to comments, banter or whatever you would like to call it, on Saturday and Sunday there was a total of 1,271 comments left by you guys, or over 635 each day if you want to be precise – more than any other NUFC Blog. It’s clear that this place is rapidly becoming the place for banter between NUFC fans. I’m not blowing smoke up your rings, but some of the debate has been cracking. Funny. A joy to read. Long may it continue.

The Forum, which you can access via the top menu or by clicking here, is gathering pace as well and has over 500 comments from posters. Just be warned though that if you wish to use the forum then you will need to be a registered user with the ‘blog.

So, unlike Sunderland, this place looks like it is going to the next level, but it wouldn’t get there without the people who have chipped in with articles. So to Marktoon, Moreno, Dan4toon, Jobey07, Jersey Geordie, Jay Jay – a huge pat on the back for the lot of you.

Most importantly though, the site would be nowt without the guys who read and comment. You can have the best looking bar in the Quayside, but if it’s empty it’s pointless. Thankfully this particular bar isn’t empty and is filling up nicely. And the best thing is that last orders is nowhere on the horizon.

I’m not sure a pub analogy on a Monday morning is a great idea mind…

Once again: Thank you!

  1. Sorry. I know some people aren’t interested, but I also know that some people are interested so it’s just a quick update to keep people up to speed.

Feel free to crack on about footy 🙂

  2. The calibre of bloggers is fantastic as well, credit to everyone who comes on. Don’t always agree with your opinions all the time, but always valued.

  3. That’s what it’s all about isn’t it? Having differing opinions. Love it me like 🙂

  4. Just looking at Newsnow and something just struck me that I really find annoying 👿

People Who Write Headlines Where The First Letter Of Each Word In The Headline Is A Capital Letter.

    Sort it out 😆

  5. shouldn’t there be some Ben Arfa news/images by now? Come on Toons, do some diggin will ya pal 😉

  6. “The big game is on Sunday. If we lose on Sunday then what? It doesn’t even bear thinking about”

from an obliging Villa fan. Tasty

  7. Actually, Toonsy – I’ve a feeling you’re supposed to do that with headlines. I’ll check with the missus – she’s an editor.

I think the key to success on here as everywhere is to keep out the wummers and pre-pubescent slagging-off that go on elsewhere and make it impossible to find the decent posts in the rubble of **** that builds up. As it does on other blogs. No names… 😎

Oh, and avoiding blatant traffic-building with pathetically misleading headlines. Couldn’t possibly suggest where that happens either. 😐

  8. Incidentally it looks like I may go a whole season without seeing a match. Pathetic. I think I went to six last season – not bad for someone living right by the wrong St James’ Park (Exeter). The CCC had it’s advantages, and matches anywhere near the SW was one of them!

I’m sure the mackems will be delighted about that too. 😆

  9. Devon – Still nowt about thus far. I reckon I’ll have to dust off the French book at this rate 😆

    Regarding Ben Arfa’s interview I seen a Englishman that works for canal plus and all he put on Twitter was;

Ben Arfa on Canal Football Club: ‘Referees must do more to protect players ‘ #nufc

  13. Well in Toonsy 😉 I knew you’d make this place great and the fact that it’s a proper site is the reason I believe we have proper good banter, for the most part 🙂

Even though Rons a bit weird, and it feels like he’s actually looking at you… he has to say. NUFCblogs good luck charm 🙂

  15. Dan – I was struggling to think of one so I asked people for ideas on Footymad. This was the first idea that someone came up with and it’s stuck ever since 🙂

  18. Aye, I’m going to put him away in his little box in a minute. I’ll roll him back out again for the Villa game.

I may or may not be going to that. Depends if tickets are still available on Friday as I’m skint until then so can’t afford the £41 😥

**** house, car, bills etc 😥

  22. Batty 😈 😈 😈

tattyheed – I know how you meant that. It wasn’t meant the wrong way 🙂

  23. Re the Villa match on Sunday, i know we are short of players but the pressure has been lifted slightly after the Wolves result and they will be bricking it, how sweet would it be to take 3 points off them after they danced on our grave?

      (Quote)

  24. Tattyheed, I actually can’t find one of him smiling but the reason I picked this one is I wanted one with him wearing a snood

  25. Toonsy, if you’re viewing the site via iPad, is there a way to switch between the mobile site and the proper site?

      (Quote)

  26. David – Not sure. Never used an Ipad 😆

I think it’s serving you the mobile version which is what happens on iPhones etc etc. It’s to do with the switching settings. I’ll have a look into it.

      (Quote)

  27. Deepak – Not yet. Just going through another application for it now 🙂

    Hopefully this time…..

  28. All the best mate, dunno how they can deny you now…:)
And dont know wheater its something to do with my comp, but on matchdays, the game on threads seem to get stuck for me.If i check into the thread and it supposedly has 70 comments,i will be stuck with those comments until perhaps when the match gets over or a new thread comes up.Thing is I am not able to view the comments as they happen, have tried refreshing many times but without any luck.sometimes, when i switch browsers it catches up with the lastest comments but thats only sometimes.any idea whats wrong mate?

      (Quote)

  29. Toonsy – That would make sense as iPhones have the same OS and use the same browser. Was just wondering if there was a way to change between the mobile/normal versions.

That’s what I like to see in folk….. modesty!

  31. Deepak – Log in basically. If you’re logged in you will stay current and up to date and the comments will keep up to speed.

If you’re not logged in then all you see is a cache’d version of the site which, if you happen to view near the end of the cycle, will make it look like the page isn’t updating 🙂

I’ll be switching it off soon because the site is on some fancy new server (VPS?) so it can take more strain, but originally it was done because the site was on a shared hosting package which couldn’t deal with spikes in traffic 🙂

It’s the same as what used to happen on .org when the site became unavailable so rather than leaving it for ages and ages I thought I’d get on it straight away and sort it out 🙂
