Orlando confirmed on U.S tour.

Orlando's Citrus Bowl.
Newcastle have announced a third date for their tour of America which will see them head to the Sunshine State inbetween trips to Kansas and Ohio.

It’s quite the road trip in terms of distance, and quite the fixture list when you consider it will be three games in six days for the players who will more than likely be gearing up for another season in the Premier League. I just hope it isn’t too much too soon and we don’t see any injuries become of it.

The opponents will be Orlando City who are making their debut in the third tier of the American Soccer Pyramid and are coached by ex-Everton midfielder Adrian Heath. The venue will be the 65,000 capacity Citrus Bowl which was used as a venue for the 1994 World Cup and 1996 Olympics.

That leaves our confirmed fixtures to date looking a bit like this:

20-07-2011 – Kansas City.
23-07-2011 – Orlando City.
26-07-2011 – Columbus Crew.

I’d imagine that will be about it in terms of our US activity over the summer. Hopefully at least one of the matches will be within a reasonable distance and allow some of our American fans to go and watch the Toon.

They may have to do without seeing Joey Barton however who is going to have to plead his case for a visa and try to convince the U.S authorities that he isn’t a danger to the public due to his previous troubles.

On the plus side, maybe Ryan Taylor can get a job as one of those kickers in the NFL? I think he’d probably be rubbish at that aswell, but at least I wouldn’t have to see him trotting out in a black and white shirt ever again. Let’s face it, we know Raylor is the one who is going to get one of those hats with the clappy hands on the front don’t we……

Howay the lads!

  4. MDS, possibly targeting a fan base which hasn’t been pillaged by the big guns in seasons gone by?

Did Man Utd not lose to one of the 3 teams we are playing?

Plus the MLS being in full swing and players fit whilst the PL team is out of practice

  5. Cheeky punts on Shakhtar draw wins 14 off 2 quid.
Shakhtar win pays 31.50 of 2 quid. got them both. come on you oranges

  6. yeah mate, him and rooney up front. Rooney 6/1 first goal, Drogba 5/ and Torres is a ridiculous price….

  7. Aye, Jobey, i was pretty shocked to get it….Hernandez in form at long odds and torres can’t buy a goal at short odds…..hmmmmm……

  8. Moreno- yes Kansas City beat Man U last time. The MLS clubs are in midseason form at tha time t, plus the league and supporters really take these friendlies seriously as a way to gain a bit of respect and possibly impress scouts. So you will get a mtch that feels like midseason match in the Championship (a bit sloppy, but physical and spirited).

I was referencing the Orlando match. That is a pretty low level of football there- but there should be some local interest as I think the national youth academy is around there.

  15. @toonsy: Rooney ban isn’t gonna have any effect,as he will still be available for the match againt NUFC.

They have FA CUP semi-final in between.

    Unless,they increase it to 3matches ban. 🙄

  25. No goals for Messi yet which means his CL goal scoring record will drop to a miserable 14 in his last 12 starts 😯

  26. MDS you and O’Hurley off to Columbus then. My company just announced a training in Miami for the week of…wait for it…July 25th…Da-mn it. That also means the KC game may be out for me as I am not sure the wife would have me gone so much.

This sucks. I think at least both games will be on TV…or so I hope. My only outside hope is that I am NOT selected to deliver any of the training presentations, but seeing as how I was dropped last time and promised the next one…I think I am going.

    Hope you guys have fun.
