El-Arabi back on the NUFC transfer radar?

El-Arabi in the frame again?
Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in securing the services of Caen striker, Youssef El-Arabi in the summer.

This is not a new rumour as we were linked with the 24-year-old back in January. Nothing came of it back then of course as El-Arabi elected to stay with his boyhood club, but circumstances change and now El-Arabi has stated his desire to leave the Ligue 1 strugglers in the summer, with a team in England or Spain being the preferred destination for the Moroccan international.

El-Arabi, who is under contract until 2013, told L’Equipe: “I have made my decision and I will leave. I have told the leaders of club my intention, but they know I’m going to keep giving everything until the end season.”

“There are lots of clubs interested in me, but I have not decided where I want to go yet. I’m attracted to leagues in Spain and England.”

El-Arabi has scored 15 goals in 30 appearances so far this season, which isn’t bad at all considering his current club sit just one point ahead of the relegation places. No doubt Graham Carr will have cast an an eye over him at some point considering our well documented French scouting missions.

From the looks of this video (Dennis Wise syndrome), he certainly looks like a canny player.

Another day another link then, but only time will tell whether or not there is any truth in it. I do think we’ll be active in the French league though, so you never know.

What do you make of it?

  1. He wont have half as much time and space as that in the prem.
Like the chip over the keeper tho. nice.

    So how much then ❓

  2. Oh and another thing. Its ok being a good striker, but you need service too. Hmmmm. just a thought like. 😕

  3. I am sick of being linked with Taarabt. Don’t rate him as highly as everyone else seems to. Seems a bit of a luzury player if I am honest and can’t see him tracking back and working hard for the team, which you need in the Premier League

  4. Is he a true striker or an attacking winger type? I’ve only seen him twice but he looks real good.
    Barton – Tiote
    El-arabi – arfa – gervinho

  5. IF NUFC want to keep Enrique and the other core players, they need to make signings as soon as the season ends to show their ambition. If they wait, as AP has stated, the barn will be empty and NUFC will just get the left-overs, have beens and never will be’s for another year of struggle with relegation rather than top 10 status..

  6. This transfer speculation can easily be narrowed down.
Instead of looking for players who are coming to the end of their contracts, simply, eliminate the fit ones and concentrate in those coming to the end and are injured.
Should cut the speculation right down and actually be accurate.!

  7. 24 yr old @ £4M and scores av 1 in 2.

We got no chance. Wages. Cashley wont pay over the top as other clubs will.

    Next……

  8. So, just out of interest, for all the ‘Cashley is tight’ brigade. What’s the theory about re-signing Tiote on megabucks contract?

I am guessing the answer is….fatten up to eat…I mean sell?

      (Quote)

  9. Moreno he just signed a new 6 1/2 year deal. What are we gonna give him a new contract every 6 months?

      (Quote)

  10. @Morono
Ashley doesn’t pay big wages so when Tiote comes knocking its goodbye Tiote.
    Simples

      (Quote)

  11. @JessyGeordie
If Tiote has his head turned by other clubs then 6 yr contracts mean nothing.
They either improve his contract or he manipulates a move.
There’s nothing more certain that if he maintains his form then they will have to improve his contract or he’ll be off.
    That’s football.

      (Quote)

  12. Moreno, think I just got what your trying to say.
If silly money comes in, he’ll be off like Carroll.

      (Quote)

  13. JG – I think what Moreno was trying to say was that Tiote was given a huge wage increase and was just wondering what those who say that Ashley won’t pay the wages make of it 😉

      (Quote)

  14. Bs9 I know that but you can’t give players new contracts every 6 months. You’ll have the whole squad lining up with their hands out. He’s under contract and he can do fck all about it. Carroll got sold becomes the fee was too big to turn down. If the fee was 10 mil and he put in a transfer request the club would’ve told to shut up and go back to his room.
If Tiote wants a new contract what will he do? Play poorly and risk losing those big money offers? Threaten to sit out and lose his wages?
You don’t take threats from players seriously until their contracts have 3 or so years remaining because that’s when the fee starts to drop and you want to get max profit in selling a player.
With 6 yes still remaining it will take around 20 mil to get the club to sell whether he likes it or not.

      (Quote)

  15. @JessieGeordie
Of course it depends on big offers from other clubs forcing the Toons hand but as I say, if his form continues, then big offers are inevitable and just like Carroll, his head will be turned by big wages.
The club refuse to pay big wages so I see another sad ending to the Tiote situation.

      (Quote)

  16. No he needs to stop getting booked every game 1st. 👿
Stats like that make him a liability.

      (Quote)

  17. What are big wages though? I mean our alleged wage cap is only just shy of Tottenham’s, who are in the Champions League.

      (Quote)

  18. Bs9 that’s fine but that’s 3 years down the line unless someone comes in with the silly money then of corse sell him and help us get closer to where we want to be. Is that not the point?

      (Quote)

  19. @Bull **** No. 9

is 50k per week not big wages? Who are you like? Richard Branson?

Read my comment properly before opening your dirty little muck hole….pal.

  20. I love the fact we have a shed load of money (in theory) to spend in the summer. But how good is it for the team. Because I think its pretty safe to say we have one of the highest team morale in the premier league. But is having 4,5 or even 6 new players come into the team in the summer going to be good for the team as a whole? Might be good for the fans, but I can see problems occuring like

      (Quote)

  21. Thats the name of the game, pay the money or I^m off…..thats why its mega important to offer players some sort of perspective and challenge, and for the foreign players that is the chance to 1 play in the premier league, and 2 earn big bucks. Once the first couple of seasons are out of the way, they then realise they are canny players and start pushing for MORE money, or a move to a more ambitious club….Tiote will be no different to be honest, we have to match his ambition as a club, signing good players and pushing for europe each season if possible. It should be possible, but with the muppets we have in charge you would seriously doubt it… 😥

There’s 2 sides to the issue.
If we aren’t packing the stadium out and paying top dollar for tickets then we can’t expect to compete with the top clubs, and that looks like Liverpool are back in that frame.
Ashley won’t subsidise any big wages therefore we can’t afford to keep the best players.
You say it could be 3 yrs down the line before Tiote may be allowed to move on if a big offer comes in. But I believe it could happen in the summer. If a big offer comes in and Tiotes head is turned then it’s the Andy Carroll scenario.
Don’t believe a player can’t force a move whatever contract he has because anyone in the professional circuit will tell you they can.

  24. the atmosphere surrounding the club has a bad smell about it at the moment, and that will force players out of the door, combined with lack of investment and ambition at the club…

Maybe it¨¨s time to change the “old guard”…it wouldn^t surprise me to se JB, Nolan and Enrique leave the club in the summer… 😥 😥

      (Quote)

  25. I would hang fire on Liverpool. I think they are going to struggle to improve upon what they are at now to be honest due to their income taking a rather large hit from not being in Champs League. That will bring their wages to turnover ratio right into the balance.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we saw Gerrard moving on in the summer. They have a manager now where the fans will allow it and it will shift a large chunk of wages off the wagebill.

      (Quote)

  26. @morono
I read your post thoroughly .
Tiote is not on £50k per week. Please show me any evidence of that figure or is it plucked out of mid air.
He is on nowhere near that.
Joey Barton has just been offered £28k so I can’t see Tiote being offered £50k.

      (Quote)

  27. “Ashley won’t subsidise big wages”

You also go on about how the club force people out. Why didn’t he force out colo, Nolan, smith etc etc etc when we went down?

    2 questions really

    1) What do you constitute as big wages? Not 50k by the sounds of it.

    2) When you going to pull yer head out yer ****?

If I thought you were serious I would be worried but I know you’re just fishing for bites and not actually as thick as you’re coming across.

      (Quote)

  28. Ah yes, I forgot your sources know everything about the inner workings of the club, more so than the manager, and pass it onto you so you can impart your wisdom on here and Ed’s blog. Thank you for enlightening us all.

By the way, a few first team players are on 50k+ without having to single out anyone so do you not constitute that as high wages?

      (Quote)

  29. @morono
I’m waiting for the evidence Tiote is on £50k per week. 😯

      (Quote)

  30. @morono
By the way, I would be over the moon if the Toon wage cap was £50k .
It’s not so how do you know it is?

      (Quote)

  31. If you are wanting to be pedantic and avoid the question then so be it. Where is my direct quote stating Tiote is on 50k per week? I don’t know his exact wage, I would have thought you would be able to ask your source for evidence though?

Third time I will ask the question, what do you constitute as high wages?

      (Quote)

  32. Where did I say the toon wage cap is 50k? Haven’t even mentioned a wage cap you sausage 😉

      (Quote)

  33. There is always two sides of a story. Enrique may or may not want to leave and either way is fine by me. I can understand if he wants to go and play at a higher level AC Milan and such, but if he chooses Liverpool I would be sad, as they are not big or great anymore. I can also understand if Enrique has had enough of the owner/MD, I mean, he has been with us for four years and how many managers?

But I believe he will sign a new deal once we are safe. But I think we have to back it up with signings in the summer, because otherwise the feeling in the dressing room will not be nice. I think he will stay until other is proven. Right now we have an old cesspool man spouting crazy rumour that he has nothing to back up with. We just have to stick together and not let anyone, let it be southern press or other clubs, try and destabilize us.

      (Quote)

  34. @morono
I refer the right honourable moron to my previous post.
    £50k is a big wage.
So you don’t know how much he’s on?
    Jean. I Uss

  35. Happy to have a disagreement of opinion bull **** no.9 but dont start mis-quoting me and saying I said things I never. That really pisses me off

      (Quote)

  36. @moron
Well if you originally said Tiote is on £50k per week, then I assumed he must be the best paid of all the new signings.
Are there any new signings on more than £50k? If the answer is no then we can assume that £50k is the wage cap.
Oh I forgot, you can’t find any evidence that he’s on £50k .
Not the brightest star in the sky moron are you? 😎

      (Quote)

  37. So to go back to your original throwaway comment “Ashley doesn’t pay big wages”

Please explain? I was under the impression he spends millions of pounds on wages, with players currently employed at NUFC on wages of over 50k per week.

      (Quote)

  38. Bs9 I didn’t mean we’d only sell him in 3 years if silly money came in. I meant we wouldn’t be bothered with any threats from him until he had at least 3 years left on his contract. If big money comes in in the summer I think he’ll be moved on and I would agree with it. It would be good business for the club and help us get to where we want to be. I support the toon, not yhe players bank accounts. Plus it’s not that difficult to find quality holding mids for around 5 mil.
Furthermore you know well enough that it’s more than just paying high wages to be able to compete with the big boys. We need the same kind of champion’s league money coming like them as well. Right now we need to recover from years of high wages with little come back and a season in the fizzy.

      (Quote)

  39. @morono
    Ashley no longer pays wages.,
Barton has recently found that out. Colo will find out when he comes to new contract negotiations.,
Going back to your original point, why ask the question whether £50k was a big wage unless you meant Tiote was on that wage, bearing in mind we were discussing the issue.
    You’re wriggling Moronic. 😉

      (Quote)

  40. To refer you to a previous comment I made, “I don’t know what he is on exactly”

I can admit when I don’t know something, I daint act like a bairn about it. Maybe one day you’ll learn to be a man and follow suit.

“Ashley no longer pays wages”. – Eh, who does then?

I had originally asked what the Ashley is tight brigade – you – thought the theory was about re-signing Tiote up to a increased contract, to which you have mumbled a load of shitr incoherently since.

Who pays Nolan’s, Smith’s etc etc etc wages at NUFC booooby?

Go on say his name you *****

  41. I’ve just realised Ive wasted the last hour posting to an imbecile .
    Woo hoo hoo hoo

    😕

      (Quote)

  42. Booby.

I’ll take that as matter closed then? Ashley does pay the clubs wages and some astronomical ones at that. Don’t agree with (pretty much) any decisions he makes, can’t deny he pays high wages to some of our players though, as you are.

    Manchester City FC
    Chelsea FC

Try them as the have chairman who are more in line with your expectations 😉

      (Quote)

  43. Joey Barton has just been offered £28k ?? where did that come from as I cant see him being happy at his money being almost cut in half. which leads me onto why his agent said recently the only sticking point was on length of contract, So I think that blows the he was only offered £28 k out of the water 😆

      (Quote)

  44. If he goes there, I’ll wish him good luck and safe journey. Anywhere abroad….just not the scouse!

      (Quote)

  45. Heard slit bout torres but listening to the mighty Quinn on talksport, Chelsea just don’t play in the right way for him. He likes to get in behind and have great balls threaded through, Chelsea play very Italian like under ancelotti and are slow and laboured. I expect Chelsea to spend big bucks this summer

      (Quote)

  46. @morono
Are you saying Ashley will maintain the wage levels that Colo and Jonas are on? Say £60/70k?

      (Quote)

  47. Aye raffo, how do you explain him playing so poorly for Spain?

Xabi, Iniesta etc, they can thread the odd ball through
