Striker links – Who would you most like to see at St James’?

Carr has been keeping tabs on Gameiro.
Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of strikers already, and with summer on the horizon it seems likely that we will be linked with a whole load more.

Aside from Connor Wickham, most of the names that have been linked currently ply their trade in France. These names include Kevin Gameiro, Lille pair Moussa Sow and Gervinho, and Youssef El-Arabi from Caen. It may all be just rumours of course, but then there could also be some interest on our part in any of these players. If push came to shove though, which one would you have?

1. Gervinho.

Gervinho is not just a striker as he has the bonus of being able to play very well on the right side of the pitch. It’s been hinted at by Graham Carr that Newcastle are in interested in him and reports in France about a move to Newcastle just won’t go away. Gervinho has even mentioned us specifically before, so hopefully there is some interest and we can bring Cheik Tiote’s Ivory Coast pal to the North-East.

2. Moussa Sow.

Moussa Sow is another name that has been linked with us fairly frequently by the French press. The Senegal international has scored 20 goals in 30 games this season for Lille and would cost around £7 million. He was first linked with us back in March and has been a regular fixture in the gossip columns ever since.

3. Kevin Gameiro.

Not one that we’ve been linked with so much to be honest, but he is on the radar of Graham Carr who has been to several FC Lorient matches in the past few months. Alan Pardew has also been to see Lorient in action. Could it be Gameiro that they were both keeping tabs on? A fee of about £9 million would be on the cards if true.

4. Youseff El-Arabi.

El-Arabi was first linked with us back in January with a £4 million deal being mooted. Nothing came of it however until the other day when El-Arabi announced his intention to leave Caen at the end of the season. I wrote about that here on NUFC Blog the other day, and you can read it clicking here.

I’d be happy with any of them to be honest, although we’ll probably end up with none. That’s if we are even interested in any of course! If I was being greedy I’d like to see Gameiro and Gervinho in the black and white stripes, although much depends on how much they would cost.

  1. I would have any of the first three I mentioned but Sow, he scored about 15 goals in 100 games then moved to Lille on a free and has about 25 goals this season and with him being on a long-term deal a hefty fee would be required for who at the minute is a one season wonder.

  2. Toonsy thanks for changing the subject!!! 😀 😉
    It was getting depressing.
I want 3 strikers in or toward players. Don’t care who they are so long as the people who get paid to make these moves rate the players coming in. I like what I’ve seen from Carr so I’ll let him do his job.

  4. I’d have any ****** who wants to play for us and can stick it in the net. I’d also take £10 million and spearing for Jose

  5. Well vote for your priority then say you’d want all four then 😆

I want two of them but I’ve only voted for one.

  6. I voted Gervinho simply because I know more about him and have seen more of him than the other options. If not Gervinho then I would want Gamerio.

  9. Gamiero and Gervinho would be perfect signings, I’d say Gamiero has more quality though. Couldn’t choose between em, saying that. Those two and Wjilandnumumandjdnd would be the perfect trio of signings for me!

Tell you what, id the rumours of a swap deal plus cash with Liverpool are true I don’t think it would be that bad.

Spearing has been class in this game 😉

  11. Wouldn’t mind if he was rushed straight down the tunnel and when he took his boot off he found that his foot was still in his boot and unattached to his leg 😀

  12. Batty – He has now. They said he was fine then let him play on, then looked at the telly replay in the dugout and took him straight off 😉

  13. Hmm dunno Batts. Looked like he hyperextended his knee joint to me 😕

  15. AOD – I still want Man U to win the title. It will shut Liverpool up with their 18 times bollocks.

    1-0 Arsenal

  16. I don’t think Sow and Gamerio would be that good in the prem. Would like to see that Gervinho, although I think he would be more of a right winger/ forward than a play that could play up front as a target man or centre forward. I think the El-Arabi would be a good signing for us though, he is another one who isn’t really a target man but I think he would score goals in the premier league and be a newcastle United type player if that makes any sense. So…

    1. El-Arabi
    2. Gervinho
    3. Sow
    4 Gamerio

  17. For me Gameiro looks the most natural finisher, to me he’s got the look of Van Nistelrooy about him. 😎
As backup I’d take Gervinho, seems to be a talented player, however Youtube can make even the worst players look good (ala Albert Luque) so I’ll reserve judgement til I see who comes through the door and await them scoring goals by the bucketload!
    Yeah I’m an eternal optimist… 😆

  18. Gamiero for me, then Gervinho. Both of those with HBA, Nolan, Tiote, BArton, Ireland, sweet strikeforce baby
