Ireland, Harper and Ameobi set to miss Man Utd clash?

Ameobi's no-sho?.
Just a brief update ahead of the match against Manchester United tomorrow, and it’s not a good update either as it’s emerged that Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi are ‘major doubts’ ahead of the match at St James’ Park.

Rumours are rife on Twitter and on Sky Sports News over the fitness of the pair, and with Stephen Ireland still not sure of making the game as he tends to his partner in hospital it could leave the hosts looking very thin again. Even thinner than we looked against Aston Villa in fact.

To get anything from Manchester United, a rarity I know, you need to have your best players available. Shola wouldn’t ordinarily have fell into that category, or Stephen Ireland for that matter as we don’t actually know how he is going to play for us yet, but at the moment they are the best of what we have and not having them available will be a big miss.

We could probably cope without Ireland as we have Cheik Tiote coming back from suspension, but with Kevin Nolan out still it will mean another game for Danny Guthrie in the middle of the park I’d imagine.

Tim Krul will obviously deputise for Steve Harper whilst the loss of Shola Ameobi will mean that we are likely to see a forward line of Nile Ranger and Peter Lovenkrands again, which is concerning given the fact that they were largely ineffectual against an out-of-form Aston Villa side.

Nothing is official of course and I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether or not they make it. If you hear anything then let us know. Keep your ears to the ground and keep your eyes peeled.

Oh and keep your fingers crossed!
