Oh I do like to be beside the seaside….

James Perch on tour!
It’s Bank Holiday weekend, and what better way to enjoy the current sunshine than to head to the seaside for a few days?

Fortunately fans of NUFC can head to the seaside, well Blackpool’s seaside anyway, and take in a match whilst they are there. Hopefully Bloomfield Road will prove to be a much happier hunting ground than the last time we were there when a cold, dank, midweek fixture resulted in a 2-1 defeat for a Newcastle side that were still reeling from relegation to the Championship.

Not to worry though, we got our own back later on in that season when we heat them 4-1 at St James’ Park towards the end of last season, but the momentum swung back in their favour at the start of this season when we suffered a 2-0 home defeat. Put simply, we owe them one!

Blackpool may well be involved in a relegation scrap, but that isn’t our concern. We still have points that we need to get for ourselves, whether that be with the aim of getting those final few points to effectively guarantee survival or so we can push on and try to finish in the top half of the table. Balls to Blackpool.

With Kevin Nolan back in the side, and with Stephen Ireland looking that bit fitter, we will have options at Bloomfield Road. It’s been a while since we could say that! Add to that the fact that Blackpool’s star man, Charlie Adam, is only rated as 50-50 to make Saturday’s game and the omens start to look a little better for the 2,100 strong Toon Army who have tickets for the match.

So will it be a happy trip to the seaside for those in black and white? We’ll see, but if it is to be an Easter eggs-travaganza (see what I did there? 😉 ) the we’ll have to make sure we win the game fairly and squarely as we won’t get any help from referee Martin Atkinson.

To those who don’t know, he is the one who conned us out of a result against Manchester City earlier on in the season and failed to even award a free-kick for the challenge that left Hatem Ben Arfa with his leg broken in two places.

If we go there and play our own game then we have enough about ourselves to grab a win. I’m not going to get cocky as we could just as easily lose, but it won’t be through a lock of motivation on our part. We’ll be up for it, the fans will be up for it and I’m sure the players will be up for it.

Hopefully that will be enough to get the three points on offer!

  1. Wish I was going! No doubt a couple thousand will turn up without tickets and that, we really should beat them. If Wigan can play them off the park we can do better!

I might put a bet on Ireland getting his first like with Guthrie not playing he should start.

  2. We’re getting stronger as the season ends like, Ireland and Nolan are back now, Benny will feature in the final three games, Gosling is back in training. Just a shame Guthrie now misses Blackpool, must be gutted.

  3. I travel everywhere by train and I’m always pissed, give me a break 😆 you should have mail toonsy.

  4. I hope Blackpool do survive – but only via a freak set of results in their last four games having lost to us lots-nil. 😀

Apart from anything else, I’d miss Holloway’s interviews. Quality bloke.

With Nolan and Ireland available, we should be fine for a few goals. I think Jonas is in a purple patch right now, so he could nick one too.

Gutted for Guthrie, mind. Get well soon, fella.

I think we’ll have ’em 3-1. Shame it’s not on telly, though – not even Nova Sports at my local, dammit.

    Those going: make some noise!

  9. Think we were the far better team the first time. Their two goals came off counters as we were the only team pushing. Think with them being home, they’ll go for it and we’ll get the better of them this time. Just don’t know where the goals will cone from 😕
    Been a while since we’ve seen a fat-trick 😯 💡

  22. I spent a whole day of my hols hammeriting the bleedin’ steps up the back of the house. Not great use of time off.

Fantastic time to be out there, though – not too crowded or noisy, warm but not daft hot, usually sunny, everyone chilled. Love it.

So why do the fekkin’ Brits wait until it’s hot, sweaty, dusty, noisy, crowded and expensive to head out there? Just when it’s nicest here??

Odd lot Brits. Our place booked solid every summer, sometimes over Easter, but empty when it’s ***** in England and nice there. Boils me Sangria-heavy ****, it does.

  23. Stu @ 16 – I was thinking the same. I’ll buy you a beer if I see you? I’ll stuff it full of laxatives and rim the glass with my **** free of charge 😉
