According to a source close to Joey Barton…..

Barton willing new deal - says source.
The Scouse midfielder wants to stay on Tyneside. Numerous reports in the local rags are running with the piece, which I personally hope is true.

However, whenever I read the words “a source close to” I shiver a little bit and a small piece inside of me dies. Dramatic? Maybe. But it’s symptomatic of what I feel when I read those words as invariably they end up being made up or inaccurate or some such. Still, let’s take a look anyway…

“Joey wants to stay at Newcastle because he is happy here. He may be opinionated at times, but he hasn’t forgotten what Newcastle did for him during his time at the club, and he’s got a lot of respect for all of the staff there, from the manager down,” said the source.

“There has been talk that he was ready to quit the club, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. His main priority is to stay here – and always has been. Joey has got a great rapport with the Newcastle fans who obviously appreciate his efforts on the pitch, and he wants that relationship to continue.”

Now I think I’ve warned people enough that this is not from Barton, or anyone officially connected to Barton, but I thought I would say it again anyway.

Fingers crossed that the ‘source’ turns out to be accurate this time, but I won’t be holding my breath.

What do you reckon?

  1. I actually don’t think he is irreplacable. I reckon Ireland could easily replace him in truth.

  2. based on recent form he’s certainly replaceable, however, I feel he has come to embody the current ‘us against the world’ camaraderie at the club; an emblem of ridicule up and down the country but loved unconditionally by many of the supporters. He should stay, and I personally feel his wavering form can be put down to a long season playing almost every game (aside from obvious suspensions etc). Should we sign Ireland, we’ll be able to rotate satisfactorily to avoid such a recurrence next season. (I personally think we should definitely sign Ireland by the way)

  3. I dont think ireland is as good as Joey , Ireland is a good player , esp going forward but be barton all day for me

      (Quote)

  4. Haven’t seen Ireland play properly for so long-he was sh1te at villa lets face it and you can blame any number of factors for it. Still think Joey is better though, especially considering he’s been playing out of position the whole year.

  5. Three things to be drawn from this and it’s interesting that his liking for all at the club runs from the manager down. Does that mean that Llambias and Ashley aren’t on hïs xmas card list?
It’s clear that he’s in or is about to re-enter contract discussions and thirdly, that the source close to is obviously Stardust – whoops sorry Bobby S no 9 – the oracle. Have I spelled that correctly?

  6. you’re all dreaming, he won’t stay. Ashley won’t pay them wages, he’ll be off in the summer with Nolan, Enrique, Tiote, Best, Colo, Airey, Vuckic, Ferguson 👿 😉

  7. Sorry lesh 😉 I did think the same about the “from the manager down” bit too 😀

  8. Sometimes he’s great sometimes he’s *****. it’s painful watching him try for the wonderball in his bad games though…

  9. I agree. We should defo sign Ireland and rotate the two tactically. As for wor Joey’s spirit and the energy he brings to the side… THAT is irreplaceable. He’s been forged in fire and will fight until the end. And I kinda dig the fact that everyone in England hates him, but for us he’s a Legend!

  10. “A source close to Joey Barton..”

Could be anyone really though couldn’t it? Could be his neighbour across the street Joey said ‘Good morning!’ to about a month ago. Could be next door’s gardener.

Then again, it’s more exciting sometimes when you don’t know who said it (ie: Phil Thompson..)

  11. Nolan will sign first which in turn finally persuade Joey to sign, Jose will leave and we’ll replace him with M’bengue.

    Happy days 😉

We will have a ‘blog that will be the beacon of all ‘blogs and we’ll have some whipper snappers writing for us 😆

Stuart, it will probably be secret option number three, do a Saylor and wait till six month before the end of his contract and he finally signs 😉

  18. wouldn’t buy into any of this ****,although i do believe joey will want to stay.i’m expecting more skullduggery from the fat man in the summer.
if any of the magical 35million does get spent, you can bet your bollox that we be offset by the players leaving.
jose will go to the highest bidder, joey will be sold, ireland will take his place as a cheap replacement.nolan will definatley sign because he is onto a good thing at newcastle, and non of the higher end clubs would want him any way.
we will all be then fed **** ,about how these players wanted to leave, and ashley will be in clover come the end of august.
if a good bid comes in for tiote,he will disappear quicker than a “virgin on prom night”.we will probably bring in a couple of foreign players, probably french, because you can get away with paying them poor wages, and a couple of kids with so called potential.all the business will be done towards the end of the window,so they cannot replace players in time, and a deadline day shock, then the whole sorry mess will start again.
cue a story in the chronicle about shola amoebi, saying he’s the man to lead the line,oh what joy we have to look forward to.

  19. Batty – Don’t be silly. The regime will sell him whilst they can still get some money for him like they did with Saylor……. Ohh 😳 😉

Or stay for the remaining year of your contract??

No, sell him if he’s fcking about. Given his age I’d not waste too much more time on him.

Jose is another kettle of fish altogether as he is young and will get better.

  21. I love Barton, if he left words could not describe how gutted I would be.

Lets hope he signs a new deal very soon – which I think he will 🙂

  22. @Trojan 69

I’m sure you will spin whatever happens over the summer to your agenda…personally I think it’s dull.

Let’s see what happens then make a judgement…

  23. Stuart….Did Joey not say(allegedly) that if he didn’t sign then he would just see out his remaining year?

      (Quote)

  24. @32… Thats cos your a (unt 😆

Nah, I love him to and would be gutted to lose him, on his day he has one of the best passes going, I remember at the SOL when he player ameobi in with a 40yard outside the foot pass and I neally jizzed 😆

Then theres his energy and ability to roar up a team, hes a class act imo.

      (Quote)

  25. Don’t get me wrong but I’m not convinced that Barton has been as amazing as some of the comments would suggest…

He’s definitely had his best season for us so far & is solid & reliable but not irreplaceable by any stretch

  26. “, I remember at the SOL when he player ameobi in with a 40yard outside the foot pass and I neally jizzed “……….then a steward grabbed hold of you and ejected you from the stadium 😆

  27. He’s had some great games and some bog standard games aswell. Since Carroll’s gone he hasn’t really had anybody to hit the ball to. I would like to see a pacy winger come in during the summer just to give us some more options for the right hand side.

  32. Joey’s work rate and desire make him just as valuable to the club as his skill set. Plus he has been playing out of position for most of the season. I think he, Tiote and Ireland could ablsolutley boss the midfield with the right formation and bit of pace down the right.

    What a belter! 😆

  40. Wouldn’t read to much into the comment about JB liking everyone from manager down, don’t imagine many players have that close a relationship with the chairman and owner unless their undermining the manager ala abramovich
Players see the chairman as the guy who controls wages and transfer cash, that’s about it
JBs recent dip in form is to be expected, Rooney was ***** for first 20 odd games and he’s playing in his preferred position !

      (Quote)

  41. ‘he’s got a lot of respect for all of the staff there, from the manager down’

Didn’t he apparently say at some dinner that Enrique was so vain he can’t walk past a mirror and that Ranger is the thickest person he’s ever met. 😆

  42. Mourinho said: “I told my players there was someone called Albert, Albert Einstein, who said that there is a force more powerful than steam, electricity and atomic energy – will. And this guy Albert was not stupid.”

    Brilliant pre match conference. 😯

  43. Re Enrique, can we afford to play him v Liverpool, his application of late worries me and if the rumours of him about to sign for them are true, can we risk him if he isnt 100% focussed?
Maybe its time for Pardew to ask him outright where he sees is future and if he isnt committed to us, play Ferguson.
Liverpool have brought two teenagers in at full back and they have been brilliant, maybe its about time we freshened the front line up as well as the current two are utter tripe.

toonarmyamerica.com is the site. They just got the site up and running so there isn’t much there yet. Saw in a forum though that they are orginizing events for the 3 exhibitions plus want to bring some of the other local US-based supporters clubs together under a single banner. Good for the those of us stateside and also good to grow the club’s popularity by taking advantage of the tour. I will support them…

  45. Thank you MDS.
I am always looking for another Toon supporter in the area. Very hard to find though.

Although, not too long ago, as I was going into the gym one morning, I saw someone leaving with a Toon kit on…haven’t seen him since.
And once at a local eatery i was wearing my kit and was pulled aside by a guy who says his brother is close friend’s with Shay Given and he’s got a few of his kits hanging on the wall. Chatted for a bit, but haven’t seen him again either.

Some day I will find “my people” and be able to watch a game with other fans.

Really hoping to get to Columbus.

  46. O’Hurley or NorCal – I’ve been spending a lot of time over the pond in the good ol US of A, been twice in last two weeks… anyway there again once at least once a month next three months so would like to tie in Columbus game. Is it Ohio way or somewhere completely different?

  47. Ice – thats good news about your son. Will he move out there or is it just a holiday home? Either way sure lots of holidays planned for you and Mrs Ice – you enjoy it. You will need it after all that mowing in the summer. Get Batty to invest in one of those robotic ones – you sit in a chair and have a drink and Robomow does the garden for you – simples,
