Stephen Ireland out for season!

Stephen Ireland - Another NUFC injury victim.
The breaking news regarding NUFC is that on-loan Stephen Ireland has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury against Blackpool in what was only his second appearance for the club he had hoped to join in the summer and signals a cruel blow to a player that has spent so much of this season on the sidelines with previous injuries.

I expect people will change their tune now and say that Ireland was always a crock and that we should no longer be signing him, but these things happen in football and I’m still keen to see him join the club on a permanent basis. Personally I’ve seen enough of him to see the lads has talent.

Whether it means any move does come off is now in the balance, but due to the freshness of the news there is very little reaction floating around about it. Hopefully Pardew has seen enough of Ireland to sign him up properly in the summer.

More to follow…

  1. Not quite sure if i’ve seen enough of him like, still if it lowers his price tag in the summer….or just get him on loan again, I imagine Villa will be grad to be rid of him, a manager with heart problems doesn’t want someone winding him up after he’s recovered like.

  2. FFS. That’s really truly annoying, I was genuinely looking forward to seeing him in the run-in, think he woulda made that crucial difference against Liverpool, too. 😡 BOLLOCKS

  3. what the hell is going on with our medical staff anyway? How and when did he pick up an ankle injury in the Blackpool game!? He didn’t go down under a challenge once, this to me sounds like an excuse for inept work by the medical staff or another training injury. What is wrong with us? Why can’t we keep players injury-free ffs?

  4. We should only sign him on loan anyway imo, he’s done nothing to merit spending a large chunk of the transfer money on yet. Get him on loan and see if he recovers form and stays fit.

  5. I tend to agree with that actually Rich. Get him on loan again and see what he does up until January. If he makes the cut sign him up then.

  6. Just typical…

Good job we are safe now so it doesn’t really matter – it’s still a huge shame though, hasn’t even started a game.

The best option would be to sign him on another loan. If we bought him for a large sum of cash in the summer I would be foolish.

  7. Shame for him but I’ve always said it will be a Ben Arfa situation, we already know he can cut it in this league.

Loan will be the best option.

  8. Ash ain’t daft, he will most likely go for a loan with an agreed fee. If Ireland was to put in some sterling performances on loan, Cashley wouldn’t want to have to shell out more, would he?

Strange we are just finding out about this now though isn’t it?

  9. Pardew will have seen enough of Ireland to have already made his mind up about him. So the injury shouldn’t change his mind. But no doubt many fans will be put off by this. But look at HBA less than four games and we knew he was good, the same with Ireland I reckon, and we will be able to get him at a cut price as well

  10. I like what I’ve seen of him, but haven’t seen enough to buy him outright unless he comes cheap.

I say loan with option to buy for next season.

  11. Toonsy…..I thought he was fantastic for a season/season and a half at Citeh but until he shows he can get back to that sort of level again I’d rather have him on loan and the odd cameo appearance doesn’t prove nowt really other than a glimse of what he can do and not neccesarily what he will do(consistently)
The injuries are another worry and rather than gamble the money on him I’d rather use it to get some current players tied down on longer contracts.

  12. Yes. Something doesn’t seem right about this…… Didn’t Pardew say that he was looking at starting him at Liverpool after he had an influence against Blackpool?

  13. Great news to come back too after a day of exams 😐

He’ll be more disapointed then us though.

If we go for him next season it will be a loan like HBA.

  14. This is type of situation where having Ashley will be a benefit.

If we do go back in for him in the summer you’ll bet we’ll get the right deal for us first and foremost.

  15. Rich, can defiantly see it happening.

Can’t see any other teams going for him and Villa defiantly want rid so will take a loan as long as it’s view to buy.

  16. Bahhh, well that’s pretty annoying – was looking forward to him playing against Liverpool. I agree with Moreno (post 8).

Anyone know what the situation on the Ben Arfa front is? I heard he *might* be fit for the clash with Liverpool this weekend about 4 weeks ago but haven’t heard anything since…

  18. Ok, which Newcastle United fan/player/manager/owner pissed off God? Maybe it’s just because I pay more attention to this team than any other, but why do I always feel like we have players…and a few players at that…who are injured.

I was generally disappointed to hear this. I’ve liked watching Ireland since he was at Citeh. I’ve always thought him a good player, and was excited to see him in the Toon strip. Even if it’s a loan next season, I hope we get to see him playing for NUFC again.

  19. Ah well, atleast I just signed a 2 year deal with Ireland on Fifa 11, he’s making me a lot of money 😉

  20. I would love Barton to sign a new deal today, See how long it takes sky to remove that bullshit liverpool story from its site… 🙄

  24. I feel a bit sorry for him as I get the feeling that this could have been a good move for him and us, It could be possible that Houllier will be replaced and the next manager might be prepared to give him a chance rather than loan him out

      (Quote)

  25. It may actually save us a few bob, If he had played really well for the rest of the season, Villa could have turned round and wanted silly money, Now hes injured again we might be able to agree another loan, Pay as you play thingy with a view to a lowish permanent deal like we did with Benny.

Freeing up some pennies for Gervinho/Podolski/Kranjcar etc. or whoever else were being linked with this week…

  26. Not really sure on this one, IF we could get him dirt cheap then it’s a similar gamble as Gosling but if not then go for a loan deal with a option to buy but us the current situation to hammer the price as low as possible.

  27. There’s never a quiet moment at Newcastle eh….?….There has never been so much written about a bloke who has played so little for the toon…..! I mean, if it’s all to be believed, pity for the bloke, but its all mad if you ask me… The bloke seems to be injury prone though… 🙁

I especially liked this bit….”By way of exacerbating Ireland’s troubles, he has spent much of the past couple of weeks visiting the hospital in Cheshire where his partner is recovering from the serious, multiple injuries she sustained in a recent car crash.”…..the guy is way out of order… 😳
