Ashley calls the shots in transfer market.

A lot of hope is being pinned on this summer, particularly when it comes to player recruitments.

We have a good scouting department at the moment that, whilst being in it’s relative infancy, has already brought several youngsters to the club and has brought about the signings of Cheik Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa. Graham Carr is the man tasked with scoring the continent and scouting players of a similar ilk to those two, but with the hours he has put in I’d like to think he can come up with another couple of crackers in the summer.

However, despite all the leg work that is being put in to make sure we can find the best players for the least amount of money, it is ultimately the word of one man that any transfer hinges on – Mike Ashley. Of course this is no different to any other club in all honesty as ultimately it is the man at the top that calls the shots.

“Myself and Derek are under the guidance of Mike. He is the owner of the club and he says yes or no. We’d like to think we can bring a few very good players here,” Pardew told The Chronicle. “Derek Llambias and our scouting team are concentrating on bringing players in.”

As I said, it’s no different to any other club with the exception of Manchester United and perhaps Arsenal who have managers who have earned a little bit of authority in the board room. I guess we just have to hope that Mike Ashley is in the mood to back the man that he put in charge halfway through the season.

Signing a striker is going to be the priority over the summer. I actually don’t think our team is bad at all until you look towards the attack, which is why I’d like us to beef up our attacking options. I don’t expect wholesale changes, but I would certainly like to see better than what we have currently. Alan Pardew feels the same way judging by this:

“Our pool of strikers needs boosting – there is no doubt about that. That will be high on the agenda.”

“You go about it like you do any other time, there’s always a situation where a club needs a new striker. You just find the best possible striker for your football club and that’s what we’ll do.”

Fair enough. Speculation and all the boring and repetitive groans from the same people will no doubt continue, but I guess we can only evaluate the squad once everyone is signed up and the transfer window closes at the start of September. Hopefully Mike Ashley will give us more thumbs up than thumbs down this summer.

  7. If Ashley did sell up I’d much rather get some Chinese investors like those interested in buying liverpool before the Red Sox guy got them. I know its stupid to judge on one example, but the Venky’s people who own Blackburn are nuts, wanting champions league next year and wanting to bring in all manner of Brazillians or whatever. Links with China would be brilliant marketing as well what with the rising middle class there and interest in football, far greater than in India. Plus if you’ve got links with the Chinese government you know you won’t be going bust any time soon… 😀

  8. Im already in my room, also thats not a punishment, my PC, decks, xbox and Tv are all in my room 😆

  9. Newkie if we got Indian owners one would hope it would be Anil Ambani, who would without doubt run the club far FAR better than Venkys run Blackburn. Would love Ambani as our owner but surely to all those who hope the club gets sold in the summer, what about the Carroll money? Do you expect MA to leave it in the coffers as a goodbye pressie?

  10. Devon-True mate, its pretty hard to base it on Venkys…its just they’re so terrible, must be maddening for Blackburn fans. Not that I care, was gutted they won today, would give anything for them to get relegated, can’t stand the b@stards! And don’t get me wrong, whilst I wouldn’t describe myself as “pro ashley” I’ve often voiced the opinion about the “devil you know” and all that-I’d actually rather he stayed. If he did sell then theres no doubt he’d take the money with him as is his right, I was just speculating if he was planning on doing a runner anyway, which wouldn’t surprise me.

  11. totally agree about the ‘devil you know’, I’m used to Ashley and I’m looking forward to our transfer market come summer. If someone tried to buy us next year I’d be interested if they seemed decent, but for now Ashley, Pardew and Carr et al will do me fine. If I could fire ONE person at the club it’d be the deplorable and impish Dekka, he literally boils my ****. Smarmiest most un-likable kunt ever

It’s also basically telling you to be ‘red alert’ about checking your bank account, letters ect. Im with barclays and their pretty good security wise like, I think they reinburse you if anybody manages to steal anything.

      (Quote)

  30. DJG – Aye, basically they have got the long numbers but they haven’t got the security numbers so it’s useless unless they can crack it. It’s only three digits and a random number generator will soon crack that. It’s a dead card anyway so they won’t get owt from me 😆

Don’t rock the boat. Surely a toon player can’t be asking to be in the top 4 or 5 ! Outrageous!
The bloggers will be calling him deluded!
Does Tiote not realise we can’t aim that high? It’s too ambitious. That would mean buying decent players and offering decent wages!
The bloggers will be furious with this one! 😥

      (Quote)

  36. Bobby 😉
Won’t be too difficult…just a monumental collapse for Liverpool and Spurs for the beginning of next season…..I think what Tiote is mainly aiming at is Europe, and providing we win a cup or top 4 teams do and we grab 7th then its all the same.

Now, if we can just spend around 50million in the summer…. 😎
