Two more friendlies added.

The Northern Echo Arena - Home of Darlington FC.
Newcastle have confirmed another two pre-season fixtures today which takes the tally to five warm-up games before the start of the season.

We already know that the club are touring the USA as part of their pre-season preparations and have already organised games against Columbus Crew, Orlando City and Kansas City, but if that is a bit too far for you to travel there are now two confirmed friendly matches scheduled to take place here in the UK.

Friday, July 15th will Newcastle head South down the A1 where they will take on Darlington at The Northern Echo Arena. We’ve played their before, recently, and we came out 7-2 winners as the club warmed up for their season in the Championship.

Then, on Sunday, July 31st, Elland Road will be the destination as Newcastle take on Leeds United. Again we played them last in the build up to the Championship campaign and the score ended at 0-0. It’s a switch of venue this time around though as St James’ Park hosted that game.

So there you go, a couple of local (ish) friendlies to get your teeth into. As a rule I don’t do friendlies, but if work lines up correctly I may well make the trip to the Leeds game providing I can get a ticket. Darlo on a Friday night I’m not so sure about though.

That leaves our confirmed friendly dates looking like this:

Friday 15th July – Darlington (a).
Wednesday 20th July – Kansas City (a).
Saturday 23rd July – Orlando City (a).
Tuesday 26th July – Columbus Crew (a).
Sunday 31st July – Leeds (a).

There are rumours that another friendly may take place against Gateshead although that hasn’t been confirmed by NUFC as yet. The date being touted around is Tuesday, 2nd August.

So that’s five matches confirmed, and I expect we’ll see one more added to complete the pre-season program. Hopefully the lads can use these games to get fit and firing on all cylinders for the new season.

Without injury aswell!

  1. Are there no friendlys at home like. 😯

I suppose a condition of clubs like Leeds and Darlo having friendlies with us is to fleece as much money out of the toon army as possible. 😐

  2. Hmm. Leeds will be a goodun, I think.

Army – did you ever post a decent pic of your missus? (Or whoever the cute one is on the edge of your avatar?)

  3. It sounds like a lot of games in a short span. I hope we have a good squad on show for that crew game. Gonna make it out to that one.

  4. I’d like to see an away game at Plymouth – just to help the club out. Poor buggers. Having a Fat Ash has its perks, eh. 🙁

  5. Is it worth playing Patrick McLaughlin alongside Barton in midfield ??
    ————————
Never seen him play but the reports are good. I would much rather see one of the youngsters along side Barton than some strange formation or playing someone out of position. Got to bleed the youngins eventually, might as well do it now that we’re safe and desperate for bodies.

  6. Anyway – back to the ‘problem midfield’.

Do we have any defenders who can step up to holding midfield? I don’t like not having an old head in that spot.

  7. Just asked a reporter on Twitter and Routledge isn’t available.

MDS, if it was up to me I’d play Mclaughlin, he’s really good but can’t see it happening 🙁

  8. I think the reason the friendlies are all aways is to help the groundsmen prepare the pitch for the new season.
For many years we have had to relay the grass and it takes time to take hold.
I dont think thats the case this year tho with that new semi artificial genetically modified stuff we are using these days. 😛

  9. Whumpie, after more consideration I’ve come up with;

    Jonas R.Taylor Barton Ferguson.

Which I think would do the job 🙂

  10. Richie, well Pardews press conference was today and he must of asked him.

Am guessing he did anyways 🙄

  11. i think 3-4 gud players next season then we will be pushing for 60pts , top 6 defo!! high ambitions but why not

      (Quote)

  12. MDS-

LoL, I guess I should have known that. I don’t do a very good job following MLS and the like. The Prem is just so much better. It’s almost like watching Arena League Football (is that **** even around anymore?)

Btw, you gonna be at the Columbus game?

      (Quote)

  13. OH- I won’t know about Columbus until a week before but am hopeful.

I follow MLS but not like a do the Prem. It is improving though- at least there are now proper crowds and singing. And a few players have made the jump to some success in europe

  14. Agree Army @32 60 points should be the target next season, after all we’ve thrown away a dozen points this season and hopefully we will have a stronger squad and possibly a stronger starting 11.

      (Quote)

  15. weve threw away about 5 wins this year , if we had put all them in2 wins then we would of been near the 60 mark

      (Quote)

  16. Had we been healthier this season I think we would easily be looking at a 7th place finish. Add 4 players to our squad and I think 60 is a reasonable goal for next season.

  17. I hope Swansea or Cardiff come up, it can only be good for the league, plus we’ll have a good laugh.

  18. i fancy swansea 2 cum up , they have a gud team!! there striker is mint borrini or summit?

I’d like a Cardiff vs Swansea final. Imagine the concequences of that game, to see your rivals move up to the prem and get the money and the players, it could take years to catch them back up.

Wigan vs West Ham, that will be a good game aswell, West Ham need to win but I hope they don’t coz if they do I can see them beating the useless Mackems aswell. I hope it a draw, I don’t want DW to stay up either. Ashley will probably throw in another insulting bid for N’Zogbia just to rub it in. 😆

  20. Tbh though toonsy I think if Reading or Forest come up they will probably just be next seasons whipping boys. Cardiff seem to have a bit more about them.

      (Quote)

  21. DJG – I don’t want a stronger league next season though 😉

I want poor teams who will fill those relegation spaces asap 😉

      (Quote)

  22. Plus the Welsh can’t behave….. Anyone who can say they WANT Cardiff in the league given how they behaved at our place last season and how they behaved at Chelsea on a big day out is taling out of their ****.

      (Quote)

  23. Toonsy I know where your coming from but that didn’t happen this season and we were alright, plus i’d like to think we will have a bit more ambition by next season than looking for 3 worse teams. 😕

It will probably happen next season anyway this season was a one off.

      (Quote)

  24. Toonsy @45

    Agree.

As far as the Championship is concerned, I’d really like to see Leeds go up, but at this point that would take a miracle. How many games do they have left anyway? If Leeds isn’t in the running, I’ll be behind Forest all the way. Class bunch of folks they are, and I like their team.

Gotta agree with Army though… Cardiff vs Swansea in a play-off match would be MINT!

      (Quote)

  25. DJG – I agree about the looking for three worst teams bit, but having a safety net isn’t always a bad thing. Ambition or not, bad things can happen, as we saw when the most expensive squad ever to get relegated was duly dumped out of the Premier League at Villa Park a couple of years ago…

      (Quote)

  26. Norwich will probably be next seasons whipping boys.

‘Let’s be Aving you’ ‘where are you’ 🙂

      (Quote)

  27. Leeds and Cardiff bith up? Might was well invite Millwall and reopen the dark days of english football

      (Quote)

  28. Toonsy, we have thugs too…..Dan couldn’t even behave V Blyth for christ’s sake! 😆

      (Quote)

  29. DJG – I think you’re right on that one. They are essentially an over-achieving League One side so it will be interesting to see how they get on. Mind you, the same was said about Blackpool, and they are still hanging on in there.

      (Quote)

  30. MDS-

There certainly is somethin to be said about cannon fodder lol! It’d be nice if relegation was sorted in January haha! Just leaves the door open for us to do that much better and take the stress off of our backs like.

      (Quote)

  31. OH…Leeds have roughly zero games left to get back in the promotion race 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  32. Leeds need another season to build anyway, the double promotion is not a thing many clubs can handle, unless you’ve got insanely rich owners of course. Norwich have been playing well to be fair but to go up two leagues in two years and still compete seems a bit much. Think they could get chewed up and spit out next year.

      (Quote)

  33. Richie-

I kinda thought so. Nice to see em at least get close though! Gotta admit, I kinda feel for them. I’m glad Millwall ain’t gettin’ promoted, but what’s it matter? The Hammers will be right there with them next season, so ICF here we come… :/

      (Quote)

  34. DJG-

Yeah, can’t see how Norwich is gonna stake a viable claim in the prem. How skint are their owners? Do they even have the resources to compete?

      (Quote)

  35. I think if Fraser Forster go’s back there he could be in for the shock of his life. I don’t think he’s that good, that he’d be able to keep them up but good luck to him nontheless.

  36. I well remember a friendly at Southend team had players like **** Keith,Alf McMichael,Jimmy Scoular,Brian Harvey.,jackie Bell.they scored 7 that day
