Game on! Chelsea v Newcastle.

More of this will do nicely!
Welcome one and all to the penultimate ‘Game On’ match article of the 2010/2011 Premier League season.

This afternoon will see us take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for a match that, if Newcastle can upset the form book and win, would see the Toon propelled into eighth place in the league table if other results go our way. However, on the flip side of that, Chelsea will be playing for pride after losing their grip on the title yesterday and will be looking to make sure that they can nail their colours to second place in the league and avoid an early start to next season by gaining automatic qualification to the Champions League.

Now I hate being downbeat on our chances ahead of a match, but common sense would suggest that Newcastle would be fortunate to come away from Stamford Bridge with anything to show for their efforts. The bookies have Chelsea as overwhelming favourites, the form book is tipped very much in favour of the home side, we don’t usually fare to well at Stamford Bridge and we have nearly a full team of players out injured or out through a self imposed suspension.

My main hope for today is that we can see a solid and committed performance from our lads. I don’t want to see us not turn up again like we did at Anfield a couple of weeks ago. No less than 100% today please. If the lads give it everything they have then they can leave Stamford Bridge with their heads held high – win, lose, or draw.

The game is scheduled for a 1:30pm kick-off and will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1 here in the UK. However, if you can’t get that either because you don’t have Sky or because you are based outside of the UK then the good news is that there is a whole host of overseas channels that will also be broadcasting the match, which means that the chances of a stream are fairly good. Once again, if you stumble across a good stream please feel free to hoy a link to it in the comments section below.

That’s about it I think. The match preview, if you haven’t already read it, is here and the team news will appear below as and when I can get my grubby little mits on it.

Howay the lads!

  2. Says a lot though, their 3 subs – Drogba, Essien and Malouda. Ours – Ranger, Lualua and Sami Ameobi
    😆

  3. Cannot fault the lads today like. Even if we lose, we’ve bben pretty comfortable without looking too threatening.

A few summer signings and we can look at top ten next season.

  4. Gotta say, wasn’t expecting a win, but it’s great to see so much effort from the lads. Young Sammy looks class!

There’s only two Ameobis… ‘kin mint, man!

  5. The young uns look ok I reckon!

Hope Ashley doesn’t use it as an excuse not to spend.

I reckon they’ll come on leaps and bounds loaned out next season.

  6. Great game. Us without our starting 11, still made a fantastic game out of it. So typical of this season, get beat by Stoke, but claw our way back with an injury ravaged side to draw against a very in-form Chelsea side. LMAO. HWTL

  7. Beautiful stuff 😀

Toby-yes we do, not denyign Krul has the potential to be much better than Harps, but the stats don’t lie, Harps is still the safer option I feel for next season.

  8. Well done lads
Just desserts. Well worth a point.
So sad for Krul excellent apart from one second.
    Team spirit AMAZING
    Young guns looking good.
A twenty goal a season striker needed
    Very happy

  10. the pleasing is that we got what we deserved. We played well enough to feel digruntled with a defeat so to get a draw is spot on. Well done lads

  11. Stu
Only loan the real raw ones out. Ranger, Lua Lua Ferguson Vuckic all first team squad for me

  12. Quality header from Taylor, but perhaps more importantly he looked solid defensively, some of the best i’ve seen from him actually. Good competition going into pre season. Brilliant effort from all the lads, so proud and happy! Reckon Jonas should have had MOTM rather than droggy though.

  13. Toonsy @ 260 😉 its not the 1 pt this time it was what the Lads deserved. I really was impressed with most of the Lads but Fergie handles himsel so well and has seemed to really grown up over the last couple of months

  14. Was so happy with that game! Brilliant effort, it would have been very unfair if we hadn’t got a point. Cracking team performance,

Barton was class, had lampard rattled.
Taylor and Colo were amazing. Jose played well, questionable MOM imo, i think should have went to Taylor, as he was brilliant all day, read the play well and nicked us a point.
Fergie and Sami Ameobi looked great, Kazenga a bit rusty on the passing, but tbf he’s just back from injury.

    Very happy 😀 😀 😀

  15. Barton was quality in the middle, agree with Jobey he had Lampard. Hopefully he signs a new deal soon.

  17. What a performance. Proud of these lads this season.
Shola the only player who I really felt was just terrible. I hope Jonas came off for a knock because ranger should’ve been on for Shola.
But any way. well deserved point IMO
    Krul- 8
    Simmo- 7
    Saylor- 9
    Colo- 9
    Bull- 9
    Loven- 7
    Raylor- 7
    Joey- 8
    Fergie- 8
    Jonas- 9
    Shola – 😕

  18. Good result. Well played the lads. All of them.

That was precision shooting by Raylor to bounce the ball off Jonas’s back. Sheer class 😆

I agree. Everybody else thought he was going to shoot but only he spotted Jonas. Brilliant

  20. Have to say I can’t wait for next season. A couple of strikers and a decent winger and hba back and we will be going top 8. Maybe another cb too but happy and full of optimism, but sholla just ain’t good enough for me

  21. I like Shoala. Wouldn’t be my first choice and if he is happy to fourth or fifth choice next season behind newman, newman and best keep him.

  22. Arrowhead – I’ve never hated him. I just don’t think he is as good as some make out and think he can be a liability at times. Today though he was brilliant, but he’ll drop another clanger somewhere to balance this game out. I guarantee that.

      (Quote)

  23. Ok you you know him better than me,but we can still thank him for our last 3 points

If you’re struggling to judge a player just see what Stardust thinks of him and go in the exact opposite way.

He dropped a ******* with Carroll and Ashley and he’s doing it again with Taylor.

Taylor will come good, he needs a good run of games and he’ll be fine, he’s still pretty young in fairness.

      (Quote)

  25. Toonsy the reason he had all those clangers in the past was because he was always a rush of blood type player. He seems to have changed that the past few games and if he can continue from here, maybe he will start to live up to his potential.
If he stays level heeded like he’s been he’s miles Better than willo IMO

  26. Chance for Carroll as he nods a free header over the bar from five yards out. He should have buried that. 😈

For £35m he should be scoring every chance and half chance!
