Pardew admits to “difficulty” in keeping hold of Jose.

Staying or going? You decide.
Alan Pardew has admitted that he could be facing a losing battle with regard to keeping hold of Jose Enrique in the summer.

The Spaniard is about to enter the last year of his current deal with Newcastle, and with speculation rife regarding a summer move to a whole host of clubs we could well be facing the distinct possibility of saying Adios to Jose at some point in the coming months.

Following on from the last article about Pardew and Ashley’s transfer pow-wow, it would appear that talk of new contracts for current players was also on the agenda of said meeting. In a quote taken from the Northern Echo, Pardew had this to say about the whole Enrique situation.

“The Enrique situation is something we talked about. How possible is it going to be to get him over the line? It’s difficult because we’re finding it difficult to get him to come to the table. We’re safe, which was what his people said that they would wait for.”

“It’s now the last game, and once we get the last game out of the way we’ll sit down and see where we are with it. We’re very hopeful he stays, but there’s no point keeping a player who has set his sights on a club he has perceived is bigger. You can’t keep a player that’s unmotivated.”

That doesn’t sound overly promising to me. Why are the club having difficulty in getting Enrique to talk to them? Is a move already sorted? Was Phil Thompson right all along? God I hope not. Anywhere but Liverpool!

Once again time will tell, as it will with everything at the minute. It doesn’t make it any less frustrating though and I would like to hope that this situation is resolved one way or the other at the soonest opportunity to allow us to either plan for life with Jose or plan for life without Jose.

In an ideal world Jose will stay. I’m pretty sure that is the outcome that we’d all like to see, but in reality it’s a fact of life that players come and go. If Jose actually wants to go then there is very little to stop him. His heart wouldn’t be in it and, as Pardew said, what would be the point in keeping an unmotivated player?

The last thing I want is for this to drag on and on and on. It seems that every summer we have a transfer saga at Newcastle, but now is not the time for that. This summer is important to the club as a whole, and whilst keeping one individual would b a bonus it wouldn’t ruin the whole transfer window, if everything was concluded early enough.

So now it’s over to Jose. If he wants to stay then fine, but if he really has had his head turned then he needs to make his decision.

Soon!

  1. The trouble with Jose’s negativity in saying he is not wanting to stay it weakens our hand in any dealing. Clubs know he wants out

  2. Pardew need’s to look Jose in the eye and ask the question, If Jose is not committed then drop him for tomorrow’s match. 😉

  3. Toonsy we give him a big chance in making a name for himsel so the least he could do is just be straight and say im staying or im going.
But the problem could be that he doesn’t know what the club’s plans are for the summer and the ambition of the Club.
I just hope it’s sorted soon

  4. Safe to say Jose is leaving, I will be shocked if he stays and signs a new contract. When he said ‘I’ll talk at the end of the season” which is another way of saying I’ll wait see who wants to sign me.

I will be sad to see him leave but it’s not hard to realise he is too good for us – just hope he doesn’t join Liverpool, Spurs or any other Prem team.

  5. Shocking how he was shyte and noone wanted him and now after a good season in the prem he’s forcing our hand by not signing a new deal, meaning he can leave.

    He could have been nothing.

  6. Jose could easily play for the Spain national side and be a starter, play for a team that will win trophies every season. Which he won’t achive here.

I’ll wish him good luck if/when he leaves, the sooner we sort this out the sooner we can all move on and sign a new left back. 🙂

  7. Andrew I dont agree with > but it’s not hard to realise he is too good for us
I agree he is good but I just dont think he is too good for us 😕

Sounds like fighting words to me. Get em pards! 😈

I disagree with his first season assessment. I thought he was average that season with signs of potential. But please i don’t want to get into any arguments

  10. “Anywhere but Liverpool” – exactly 😥

My replacement for him is playing right now. Izaguirre from Celtic.

What a goal from their Korean midfielder by the way….wow.

  11. Moreno

What do you mean by WOW? You never let it rest do you – always being nasty and argumentative with folk 🙄 😆 😆

I was wanting to if van wolfwinkel returned from injury and scored some goals

  13. Tbh I didnt think he was very good in his first two seasons, bar one game against Man Yoo. He lit up last year in the championship and this year he has locked down some good players, except that korean fella from Bolton. Very dissappointed he seemingly wants to leave and I can only really credit Owl heed or Ashley, probably mostly Owl heed, for lack of ambition and lack of class in negotiations. Think we all know Owl heed is a *** and Enrique is probably sick of it. We certainly look on the up on the playing side, but I think he doesnt want to wait anymore. If he goes to the bindippers he is on my wanted list, if not to them he has my blessing.

  14. ohh yeah if he leaves I would love to see Van Aanholt back. He fits our policy and would slide right in at left back.

He’ll be delighted I have been digging myself holes again. 🙄 😀

  16. @Moreno

I thought you had buried yourself in your last hole. 😆

  17. BSN9 @ 28 – I dont think so. He matured while with us and has had a stint at Leicester as well this season and been on the fringe at Chelsea. I think he is ready to step up and I would like that to be with us.

  18. I got lambasted last time I suggested Jose was definitely gone. It was obvious then as it is now.
Do you need to see everything happen before you believe it? 😯

Howay, get used to the idea and it’s only how much we get for him now which should be the talking point.

  19. Regarding Jose, let the guy go, if his heart isn’t in it let him go. When young Ferguson gets another year under his belt, he’ll fill that spot no problem, it’s just he’s abit too young at the moment…

If Jose signs, then brilliant, but we are Newcastle United, can’t let the guy go taking the p out of us, though I think AP will leave the door open for him until the last minute.

Nolan and JB haven’t signed up either…they are all playing the same game…just in a different way, trying to maximise there wedge and win some trophys along the way….we’d all do the same…loyalty…forgetaboutit…

  20. APP I just think he looked better in the CCC with us where Routledge and a few others looked **** hot.
Toby I asked about DJG earlier on I dont think he is banned 😕 I think he just got a time out 😀

      (Quote)

  21. Big Dave – But Enrique wasnt much different. He started looking the part reagularly in the CCC as well. Willo looked the part too in the CCC didnt he???

  22. A disagreement of opinion? We’ll have none of that here! This is a local blog for local people!

    (just joking by the way!)

On the Jose debate, did anyone go to the recent signing of the shirts in the town? Surely a lot of fans would have put the question to him then.

Also, It’s not really fair him campaigning for people to get his shirt (as I understand it there was a competition between the players) if he has plans to chuff off!

      (Quote)

  23. If we lose Jose, no other left back that falls in our price bracket will not fill his place .

      (Quote)

  24. agree bobby.

but the fans want him, the manager wants him and the board will no doubt at least offer a contract (whether it’ll be enough many is a different story) so if he goes would you say it’s down to him or is it the clubs fault? (eg: for selling carroll)

      (Quote)

  25. APP yeah Willo looked the part but imo doesn’t look just as good in the prem and drops a few clangers, but I wouldn’t say no to PVA I just dont think we know how he will do in the prem 😉

      (Quote)

  26. Big Dave – Right about Willo but he has looked solid overall? PVA has been here before knows abit about the squad and such. He will be a “gamble” much like any player not from the premier league. I just think we could sign him as he fits the bill great. He has speed and is great going forward, knows the english game very well. Think he would less of a gamble than someone from say the dutch or french league.

      (Quote)

  27. Moreno @ 43 – as I said earlier, it will be a mix. Enrique obviously has ambition to play for spain and at a higher level (ChL). But at the same time we have a board that acts mysteriously and aloof at times and they seem somewhat unambitios, with our squad having to survive at minimum costs.

This is my first time watching a scottish match, and also wanna see how forster performs. 😉

  29. Toonsy 😉 but thinking about the other night do you not think a sin bin / time out would be worth looking at ?? I bet Batty would love that 😆

  30. It’s a shame he feels that NUFC is holding back his international career. Surely he would see that Jonas and Collo were picked for the Argies when we were in the Championship.

He must really want away if he isn’t even entering talks to at least hear how much the club want to offer him.

      (Quote)

  31. Big Dave – thats a totally different case 🙂 But I guess he would be cheaper than that M’Bengue guy(Didnt Toulouse knock back a £5M offer??) we’ve been linked with.

      (Quote)

  32. Moreno – He probably has a snake of an agent who has already set up a lucrative deal for himself. I blame agents and incompetent national coaches for Enrique leaving. I mean Spain picked Capdevilla over Enrique for the last WC 😕 ❓

      (Quote)

  33. APP, if we were footballers we would all try and maximise our income, whats with the snake agent bit ? We would all do the same, I mean the only chance the player has to negotiate a pay rise is at contract negotiation time. Of course the sporting perspective invariably has to be good for the player, if he doesn’t think it is, or his head has been turned, then he has a right to move on… easy really… What if Jose were to sign a three year extension to his contract say in July. Whats wrong with that ? He wouldn’t be derided by the fans if he stayed. If he left he would, but he’d just laugh it off anyway… 🙄

      (Quote)

  34. Which is why I was interested to know if he was trying to get fans to buy his shirt. If so, that’s jolly rotten form

      (Quote)

  35. ten minutes of my life wasted watching that scottish cup final. Its no better than league 1. Huddersfield could beat either of those teams

      (Quote)

  36. I wouldnt slag him if he left (see way above). But I do think agents have a bad influence on many players and push them so they can have profit themselves. I just question the whole aspect of agents. Do regular people have an agent to negotiate for them? I do acknowlegde the chance to negotiate a higher salery that is totally fine by me. But his agent well sure as hell not be helping in having him staying with us.

  37. When Celtic threw the title away at Inverness a few weeks ago, we could have got 11 off here and put in a better performance

      (Quote)

  38. Moreno@59….if he makes money himself from the sale of shirts with his own name on, then thats grounds for a slapping imo…if he leaves of course… 😆

Actually, does anyone know if the players actually geta cut on shirts sold with there name on ? This is probably a question for the eminent toonsy, cos he knows this kind of thing, but at this moment in time he’s probably hauling *** up some motorway in his 500K plaything 😆 😆

It’s the morality of the thing for me. How can he get people to spend their hard earned cash on his name on a toon top, if he has already agreed to go?
