Sunday transfer tittle-tattle.

Connor Wickham not on the hitlist.
There is a fair but of transfer speculation about today so rather than go mental and use it for several articles I thought I’d round it all up into one handy review for us all.

At this point I’ll do my regular disclaimer when it comes to speculation. Remember that I am just the messenger and all I’m doing is rounding up the various bits of gossip with regard to transfers. That’s right; gossip. That means you can take it with a pinch of salt, or a bucket, whichever you prefer, but it’s all up for debate so here goes.

The Sunday Sun has a fair bit in it this morning. Apparently the club are close to announcing a deal for an “international midfielder” and could make it public as early as this week. No name is mentioned but it could be anything from a new deal for Joey Barton to Stephen Ireland to someone we don’t actually have a clue about. Or Seb Harrison Larsson. Here is what Alan Pardew had to say in the matter:

“I think we’re close on one player which we would like to get over the line,” Pardew claimed. “And I can say that because he’s an international player – not someone who belongs to one of the bottom four battling relegation. There are two or three others we’re monitoring and we know what the figures are to get them over the line.”

With regard to strikers it would appear that a move for Connor Wickham is NOT on the agenda of the club. At the fee being thrown around for the services of the player I’d be inclined to agree with that assessment. Gervinho’s wages are apparently proving to be a stumbling block whilst Jeremey Menez, Shane Long and Jose Rondon are all still being watched by the club.

Moving onto potential deals, and it would appear that the club are set to open talks with Wigan regarding a move back to Newcastle. The club are apparently set to offer wages of £60,000-a-week to lure the player back to St James’ Park. Hmmm…..

Rumours abound that Cheikh M’Bengue could be a Newcastle player within two weeks according to The Mirror. Presumably he’ll be signed as a replacement for Jose Enrique rather than the cover that we so desperately need.

However, talks with Jose are scheduled this week after Liverpool have apparently cooled their interest over their unwillingness to match his current wages. According to the Sunday Sun Jose is the second highest paid left-back in the league, behind Ashley Cole. Hmmm.

For those who follow what that Twitter fella says, his latest pearl of wisdom is pictured below…

Make of that what you will.

As I said earlier, it’s all gossip so don’t take it too seriously. The only way we’ll know for definite if any of these deals are to come of is when the club announce it officially on their website.

Until then, speculate away!

  1. I don’t think it will be Larsson because Pardew said there not involved in the bottom four.

  2. Yep that’s what I was talking about on the previous thread. The article in the Sunday Sun was a little bit misleading. Pardew talks about the player not belonging to a bottom 4 team, so i immediately though Seb Harrison but the paper then goes on to say the player is based in Europe. Anyway we’ll find out soon…….possibly.

  3. One good thing is that there is no European Championship or World Cup this summer to distract players. (Not that this would affect any of our targets !)…. Hopefully we can get some good new signings over the line early doors…

  4. Barton can fck off if he’s not wanting to sign a new contract. I don’t feel he’s one we should be bending over backwards to keep. It would be nice, but we could live without him.

  5. Toonsy, no doubt Ed will make himself believe it’s Larsson though 🙄

Seriously though, I wonder if it’s a free agent were talking about here or there’s a transfer fee involved.

  6. My bad, just seen this;

The club are desperate to keep the name under wraps in case it alerts potential rivals, but the international player is primarily a central midfielder and is based in Continental Europe. A fee has already been agreed.

    Richie 😆 👿

  7. Stuart79@5….agree with you on that one regarding JB.

Regarding new players and contract extensions, there is a bunch of cat and mouse goes on. If JB had been offered summat acceptable he would have signed up pdq. The same with Nolan and Jose. Therein lies the problem. As someone mentioned on an earlier post, where contract negotiations are concerned Ashley likes to play hardball (nowt wrong with that I suppose). At the same time, the players play hard ball, and the result is an impasse…

At the end of the day the end result can go both ways…the anti Ashley mob say that the fat controller wouldn’t pay JB what he deserves, the anti JB mob question his loyalty and excessive demands… In the mean time we all just have to sit back in our deckchairs and watch the summer dealings transpire… And however it transpires, it’s all got to be better than the b#llocks going on in 5under1land !! wehey !!!

  11. Someone on a previous post posted the european list of Bosman frees coming up this summer. There is neebody on there from the Bundesliga to help us out though…

Strangely enough Jose Mourinho is buying a bunch of Jaaarmans for his Madrid team, just signed Hamit Altintop from FC Bayern and Sahin from Dortmund, to go with Özil and Kadera…

  12. but they also want to boost options up front and are in the hunt for Ivory Coast striker Gervinho, who has a release clause in his contract. Wages are currently a major sticking point in that deal.

    Thats in the Sunday Sun.

Later kick off tonight tho. Won’t be in bed until after 3am today (or tomorrow, if you get my drift).

  31. please please please be Menez. His rumour has been the one that’s had me most excited so far, but he only seemed to be mentioned in passing like. Would be absolutely over the moon if we got him. Someone on Ed’s said Gabrielle Marcotti had mentioned him 3 weeks ago on twitter, so I just bloody scrolled through his outrageous feed (about 40 posts per day) but found nothing. Anyone hear anything?

      (Quote)

  32. My two guesses for who the player were close to getting could be, I would say Martin from Sochaux or Matuidi from St Ettienne.

Anyways off to play a bit of Ultimate Team before the game!

  33. The club are apparently set to offer wages of £60,000-a-week to lure the player back to St James’ Park

Absolute rubbish and if it’s not rubbish them Andy Carroll should still be playing in black n White .

  34. hope there’s some decent links to game today tho p2p is only showing one link – that’s the trouble with being comfortable mid table – tho saying that I’d have bitten your hand off at start of season when I was thinking this game could be a relegation decider !

  35. Just read a sol Campbell interview on espn sport site he has no plans to retire and wants another premiership club . He does not want to “lower his standards” by moving down a division ❓ why did he sign for Notts county then before he joined us , the bloke has lost it 🙄

      (Quote)

  36. @TGS

aye mate but I’m taking my youngin who’s 8 .

I would love to have gone for a pint or 10 but can’t.

    You on the drink?

      (Quote)

  37. Axel – Why do Sol Campbell sign for Notts County?

    £££££

The same reason he left when he realised there was no £££££ on offer.

I’ve got a piece coming up in the next few days about him. £2 million in wages since he has been here 😕

      (Quote)

  38. Stuart @ 20 so is there any player at the club that you think we should go out of our way to keep here, or do you think we should just let any of the players walk away without trying to keep them

      (Quote)

  39. BSN9 didn’t Judas sign a new contract shortly before he fcuked off to the bin dippers and was on 50 k per week and he is now on 90k (i could be wrong) .That for a player yet to prove himself on a regular basis in the premier , something that Le Sulk has done .Still unsure if i would like to see him back ,he has the skill but has he matured as a person ?

      (Quote)

  40. @axel

    Aye you are wrong.

His new contract was £28k per week. Hence if they had offered £60k I believe he would still be here.

      (Quote)

  41. @big Dave

Aye my grandad was a legend. That’s who I got my fighting skills from and good looks.

    Love you pops!

      (Quote)

  42. Or if Carroll wasn’t greedy and had waited four months for a pay rise he’d still be here….

Or we could have offered 60k a week (for a player who has played three times since new year) and he could have still wlaked when Liverpool came calling with 80k a week.

    Who knows? 😉

      (Quote)

  43. @big Dave

I believe Stu is wrong about Barton. I’m sure Barton would love to stay but he won’t be made a mug of.

He’s been offered a **** contract according to him.

    What do you think?

      (Quote)

  44. @toonsy

The club forced him out. 😉

And off we go again…….. 😆

      (Quote)

  45. Bobby – In your opinion, which carries no weight whatsoever by the way, he was forced out.

In my opinion he walked. My opinion also has no weight. You know why? Because neither of us actually know.

    End of conversation.

      (Quote)

  46. Dinnertime……and there is the reason that your opinion is the only thing about you that has no weight! 😉 😆
