Has Ranger shot himself in the foot for good?

Ranger in the danger zone?
Nile Ranger’s future on Tyneside appears to be less than certain, if you go by what the Sunday Sun is reporting today.

Apparently Ranger has been instructed by the club to find himself somewhere else to play his football, and not on a temporary basis either!

It seems that only a permanent move will suffice for the Newcastle top brass, which will naturally raise the question of just what Ranger has done to be on the end of this rather strange decision. Is it something new? Or is a culmination of everything that has gone on before?

I mean if we’re being honest there has been plenty of negative press surrounding Ranger during his time on Tyneside. Both Chris Hughton and Alan Pardew have been critical of him to varying degrees due to his punctuality and application in training.

Then there is the other stuff, like being pictured posing with what is claimed was a replica gun. Fake or not, that isn’t the kind of message that needs to be sent out is it?

Maybe Ranger has just gone one step too far? The straw that broke the camels back if you like?

It’s a shame really as I actually think that Ranger could have a great future at Newcastle. The emphasis is very much on the word could though.

If there is one criticism that I have of Nile Ranger as a player (no, not that kind of player), it’s his finishing. He seems to lack that clinical instinct needed to be a striker at the top level.

That’s not to say that he’ll never learn it, but then again to learn it you have to put the hours in on the training pitch instead of turning up late and giving it the biggun. Therein could lie the problem.

So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see whether or not this is one final kick in the backside for Nile Ranger or whether this really is the end of the road for him.

Personally I think it’s the latter.

  1. I’ve always had my doubts about him. Finishing is something that I feel comes pretty naturally and most good young strikers are good at finishing. It’s not something that you can really work on too much. IMO. Ranger is one of the worst finishers I have ever seen! Yes other parts of his game were good and he was good at getting in good positions but to be successful as a EPL striker you need to score goals. And although he does have potential I don’t think he will be missed to badly. He didn’t seem like the kind of bloke I really want at the club anyway.

Not too displeased if this is true

  2. We seem as a club to take a strong stance on discipline.
Please don’t start puuting arguments for and against.
My point is millionaire footballers don’t normally like someone telling what and what not to do.

  3. On transfer activity
If the bindippers offer the SMB’s 25 million for scattermole and henderson they are even bigger fools than I thought they were when they gave us 35 million for Judas.
Will never forgive kenny for signing Des Hamilton and telling us he was england class

  4. I don’t really think its a question of his finishing ability-he showed that in abundance in the reserves. Think its just more of a confidence thing, then he thought i’ll just hold the ball up for the others and let them shoot…which is why it makes sense to loan him out, but meh, if he’s being a **** then we may as well get rid.

  5. The thing is who would want to pay a fee for him , Discipline problems and a poor finisher for a striker are not exactly good selling points and he did sign a 5 year contract .

Pardew recently said in an interview he’d be upping the strict discipline. He didn’t feel right coming in and doing it mid season but he reckons things are going to get a bit tougher if people step out of line.

  7. I guess it wont be long before we start hearing stories about what he has been up to.
I was reading something Starting was talking about before the blog went down and I do think he mad a good point, that this could be Pards dismantling of player power ie Joey and the lack of movement on Nolans contract, and enforcing proper discipline

  8. If I was on a lucrative contract, for doing something I loved? At the very least I’d make sure I got to work on time, probably want to be in early and stay late if anything. Ranger must be thick as mince and/or too far up his own **** not to realise what chances he’s wasting. Send him back to ‘the hood’, we’re well rid!

  9. Personally – if Ranger wants to pose with guns – I don’t care, if he wants to be a gangster – I don’t care, if he does Robberies – I don’t care – as long as he is producing on the pitch and knocking them in – I don’t care, he has scored plenty in the reserves – he should not be sold.

  18. Munich-Aye, once we’ve poached our way through Europe send Carr out there for a bit

  19. Newkie….hope Carr manages a few of those discount “stealth signings”, then he can get himself to the Ivory Coast and call in on Italy on the way back. There seem to be a bunch of talented players in Italy who we could surely nick on the cheap.. 😆

  20. Aw ma gawd! Aw ma gawd!

Little dusty was the genius who claimed Ranger had all the ability to surpass Andy Carroll when they were in the Championship.

You really wouldn’t care if he was posing with guns, robbing people and all the other **** that you mention, as long as he is doing it on the pitch.?

Poor point dust sheet, no close the door on your way out as well. 🙄

      (Quote)

  21. Munich-definitely wouldn’t say no to that 😛 I’m surprised Arry didn’t get Carr to tottenham…imagine the wheeler dealer-ing that could have been done between them…hopefully pards can make the most of it, he’s had some pretty good findings in the market.

  22. Oh dear…really hope we can juggle through this, because an exodus of Barton/Nolan/Jose possibily Colo and even arguably Smith would completely cripple us morale wise

  23. The club see Ranger every day, they know what he is up to in the goldfish bowl. He is a young guy, and may one day grow into a great striker, but until then if he isn’t showing the signs, or has done summat badly wrong, then he’s skating on thin ice and he’s gotta be disciplined.

Why the club cannot loan him out is beyond me, get him out of the way for a year, and see how he is when he returns. What is so different between now and a few months ago when he was deemed good enough to be offered a five year contract ? Summat strange going on here if you ask me…very fishy…

It’s true, he’s full of his own self importance and he has no reason for it. The amount of things he has got wrong, i would expect any other person to hide in shame forever! 😯

    Let’s wait for his next pearl of wisdom! 😆 😆 😆 😆

  28. Ranger 58 appearances over the past 2 seasons.
11 starts and 47 subs appearances in all competitions.
    3 goals / 0 in the premier.
    3 yellow cards.

    Not good reading. 😥

  29. Ranger is scum get him out, he is a ticking time bomb.

I don’t think Nolan will be offered a new contract given the fact that his current one expires in 2 years when he will be 31.
    No sell on value.

  30. I always said Ranger had the ability to make it but he obvioulsy wants the gangster life more…

  32. The problem for people like Nolan is, the Premier League isn’t the way it used to be when he could get away with playing until 32/33.

The athleticism and training of these guys nowadays is phenomenal and he isn’t the most mobile already, in 2 years he will get rings run round him.

  33. hang on there wise one.im on aboot this window.as for benny good signing got him on the cheep just like chiek, now lets see if we can hold onto them

  34. I’m interested to see how mobile Kev is next season, and how much training he’ll do. Obviously he’s appeared less mobile this season….but he has been playing with an Ankle injury since January. Unfortunatley the older players don’t seem to keep the same shape as people like Giggs…maybe Nolan should start shagging some models?

  35. Yeah, but Ashley did okay last summer, so what’s saying this summers gunna be a let down when we have more money?

As far as I can whereas there has been a lot of *** for tat stuff going on, the **** is all flying in one direction at the moment…cannot understand it to be honest. The same pair of muppets being disrespectful and dishing out personal insults when they realise they are in a corner. Sad really…

  38. You say that Ranger is not a good finisher and that most young strikers are natural finishers but Carroll was a rubbish finisher at his age and did not start scoring regular until he was 21 check out his record on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Carroll . I think he could become a great striker and will be a shame if he does go. Andy Carroll was in the press for all the wrong reasons aswell and he ended up being worth £35 million lol.

  39. apparentley at two recent talk ins one with Kevin Nolan the other with Peter beardsley when asked about him beardo said watch out for Vukic and shook his head about ranger,Nolan said the first team members offered to spend afternoons working with him but he knows best so he does not need help . I suspect a money grabbing waster springs to mind listen to Super Macs comments about him. I hope he leaves and proves us wrong but i think he will allways be a what might have been. We need those like a fire needs petrol and that is something I can speak about with Knowledge . 😐

  40. my son who did taxis for a while picked up ranger and his cronies, all they talked about was giving it the big this and that, as long as ranger remains connected to these pals, his mindset will never be 100% football, it seems he hasn’t learned from his southampton experience.
