Nolan bid rejected – Cabaye to complete transfer on Friday.

Nolan safe, for now.
Panic over. After my own initial fear that Newcastle would take the chance to cash in on Kevin Nolan it appears that the same newspaper that broke the story is now reporting that the bid has been rejected.

And quite rightly rejected for £3 million aswell. If Jordan Henderson is worth £20 million then Kevin Nolan is certainly worth more than £3 million, if anything just for the goals and leadership that he can, and usually does, bring to the team.

Of course it doesn’t mean that another offer won’t be made in the very near future as this initial bid could be the start of some more serious bids, and not just from West Ham either as other clubs will have no doubt been alerted to the situation regarding Nolan and his failure to agree a new deal at St James’ Park.

In other news, and more positive news, it looks like Friday is the day that Newcastle will confirm the signature of Yohan Cabaye from Lille. The Chronicle is reporting that Cabaye will fly into Newcastle and complete a medical before finalising a deal that will see him signed on at Newcastle for the next five years.

Completing the Cabaye signature would signal our first proper breakthrough in the transfer market this summer. There have been tentative rumours suggesting that French youngster Mehdi Abeid has signed for us, although with yet to be confirmed the capture of Cabaye would officially be the first bit of business with regard to transfers in at Newcastle.

It shouldn’t stop there though, and I don’t think it will. The club know what needs to be done, we know what needs to be done, now it’s just matter of the club coming up with the goods. That is where the philosophy could fall apart.

Plus I’m putting copyright on my headline from the other day: Cabaye the lad!

  1. Be great when Cabaye is confirmed, it’s a great bit of business by the club to get him for the amount of money that we have. It certainly shows the ambition that Pardew has to sign quality players from other leagues.

Hopefully this is a stepping stone for more people to come in over the summer

  2. Tell you what though with the fee like £20 mill for Henderson you can see why clubs go abroad

  3. £3million for nolan is an insult.

The leadership he has is worth 3mill in it’s self, then the goals on top.

Also why would he move to the championship?

  4. Nolan has to be worth 8 million but i don’t think I would cash in on him at the price. At the same time he has to be realistic on the length and terms of the contract he is wanting.

  5. On the topic of transfers, it’ll be good to get Cabaye through the door and as far as Nolan’s concerned, £3m’s an insult but that may just be the first bid. I don;t think Sam’ll be able to go much higher which is good and may encourage Nolan to see his two years through.

Speaking of which (and it may well have been referred to in earlier posts) but the Times in the form of George Caulkin’s reported that Jose may well sit tight for the next year and run his contract down. Why? Because he’s heard that Lifterpool’s interets’s cooled in the light of relatively poor perfomances at the end of last season.

Of course, that could be a prelude to them coming in with a derisory bid for him!

Let’s hope that the rumoured Barca interest’s true and he goes off to Spain – far away so’s we’ll not face him or more to the point, the bin-dippers don’t get him!

    👿

  6. TOONSY aye m8 20mil for that young dirty git,and how long did he play for england 30min was it,never to be seen again, just hope we keep hold of him at least until we get some guys through the door or we could be left with egg on our face

  7. I don’t think Nolan is worth that much more than 3m tbh. He’s got a couple of years left in. We paid 4m for him and got his best years out of him and 30 goals. I reckon if they stumped up 4 or 4.5 we’d sell. After all, that’d be Ashleys perfect scenario, getting years out of a player and not making a loss.

  8. If Jose tries to run down then we really should whack him on the transfer list….People like Nolan and Barton i’m not to fussed about running out as re-signing them is still a big possibility, but with Enrique, no way Pedro-he’ll be off like a shot, should cash in now if he isn’t committed.

  9. Stuart – Exactly. £70 million for three players with 150 premer league games and three international caps between them. Hmmm

  10. Suppose you buy on potential and they’ll have a definite sell on value – still expensive.

Hasn’t stood them in bad stead over the lasdt few years though as it? Ronaldo was £12m and Nani £14m? Rooney £30m. Smalling £11m.

      (Quote)

  11. Stuart- But on the flipside. Anderson was 18-24 million. Carrick was 18 million (not really potential, but still),

  19. 3 million for nolan? try the other one fat sam. I get the impression there is going to be a good bit of wheelin n dealin going on this summer and our squad could be completely different from last season.

  28. Before i continue what i am going to say,i shall apologize if the comements below offended your country.

After hearing Man Utd and Liverpool reported bidding €16million for Jones and €20million for henderson.

I was stun, speechless. Seriously,EPL CLUBS are totally **** in dealing in transfers!!

Country Like Germany are nuturing their own youngster, and trying to get the best cheapest deal possible, but English Club are spending Millions on buying other clubs youngsters, some totally rediculous price,No wonder England is utter **** in WC…..

I suddenly wonder,if only Nile Rangers just score 10goals this season,i wonder how much value he is worth now. Seeing both Under 21 players fetching such a high price. 🙄

      (Quote)

  29. Liam- purely a guess here, but i would say thefirst three are N’zog (11M), Cabaye (4.5M), Taylor (1M). After that, lord knows

  30. I’ve been very impressed with young Phil Jones. He’ll certainly be a good buy for Manchester United and go on to represent England on many occasions. As for Henderson, he is a good young player but he is nowhere near being a 20m pound player. Liverpool are paying way over the odds for him and I’ve got to agree with AOD, some English transfer are totally ridiculous.

  31. Just seen the question on twitter, If Jordan Henderson is a £20million midfielder then how much is Jack Wilshere?

It does make you wonder like.

      (Quote)

  32. @Ahmed4nufc: Don’t you think €16million for Phil Jones is also abit too high? 😯 At most €10million tops.

Geez.Seeing such english club way of transfering no wonder wenger has been getting more foreign players in instead, which as a result harming the WC campaign of England. Vicious cycle. 😕

  33. Anyway,spotted a interesting article. 😆 😎
    ———————————————————————————-

An analysis of footballers’ vocabulary on social networking site Twitter has revealed Manchester United Rio Ferdinand to have an overwhelmingly ‘basic’ command of the English language.

Ferdinand, who has led the way for footballers on Twitter under the name @rioferdy5 and recently engaged in a war of words with Daily Mirror journalist Oliver Holt, has been criticised by former News of the World editor Piers Morgan for his poor spelling and grammar.

And now, a Google study has revealed that 88% of Ferdinand’s words were “basic” while 11% were “intermediate”.

Other players to have been tested fared better, with Ferdinand’s United team-mate Wayne Rooney (@WayneRooney) surprisingly articulate, with 43% basic and 56% intermediate.

Everton skipper Phil Neville had the most expansive vocabulary among his peers, using 59% intermediate words mixed with 40% basic.

However, none of the footballers in the study used more than 1% in advanced words.

  38. AOD, I think Phil Jones will prove that he is worth 16m over time. It is expensive for a player of his age but Man Utd are forced to pay that because of transfers such as Henderson, Bent and Carroll to an extent. Jones has all the makings of a top player and it’s no surprise seeing Man Utd, Liverpool (who aren’t they interested in!) and Arsenal bid for him. I think like Woodgate when he joined us, he will prove to be a quality player for them.

  40. When you look at the signings by most premiership clubs today, they are in the main foreign players. Why? No doubt about this one in my mind, you get more for your money and generally clubs have to fork out lower wages. The “prima donnas” of the premiership who court unbelievable salaries may be the route cause of the “foreign invaders” because like anything else, why pay more for less quality. Of course the glamour boys bring with them excessive baggage in the form of “agents” and it will be interesting to see how long that system prevails. The average football supporter has no time for these parasites and if a different transfer system can be found all the better for the game.
However, as it is today, we are unlikely to improve as a nation in football until all this mess is sorted out and all parties agree on doing what is best for football in England.

That does seem to be a problem for the England squad. No ofense to English posters on here, but other than Rooney, is there any England squad member that ranks at the top 5-10 at his posiiton in the Prem?

  43. And Lampard. Is there any other central midfielder in the world that consistently scores as many goals as him?
