Pardew: “We want quality players at this football club.”

Pardew looking for the best!
Alan Pardew claims that transfer action is hotting up as the summer transfer window starts to pick up pace.

The gaffer believes that the club will be much busier between now and the start of the of the new season in terms of player recruitment, although in fairness I suspect that some player sales will also be on the agenda in the next few weeks with speculation continuing regarding the futures of Jose Enrique, Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton.

Next up for Newcastle will apparently be the signing of Neil Taylor who is expected to complete his move from Swansea over the next week or two, although Alan Pardew is insistent that further targets remain on the radar now that more action is starting to develop in the transfer window.

“Things are definitely moving on now and we expect to be busier between now and the start of the season,” Pardew told the Northern Echo.

“There has been a bit of stimulation in the market, with Jordan Henderson going, Phil Jones on his way and obviously ourselves signing Yohan Cabaye. People are starting to make bids, there’s a lot more action and there will be more happening soon.”

Now there is nothing to say that our next signing will cost money. With a rumoured interest in Demba Ba, who is said to be available on a free transfer, Alan Pardew is keen to explore every avenue to ensure that he can entice the best possible players to the club. Pardew continued:

“We aren’t going to rule ourselves out of any situation. We want quality players at this football club so if the players are out there and we think we’ve got a chance, we’ll try our very best.”

Sometimes trying your best just isn’t good enough, like with Kevin Gameiro for example, but at least it shows that the club are willing to try and land the best they can over the summer.

It’s early days in the transfer window and there will be more twists and turns and speculation along the way. At least it looks as though Pardew and Co are trying to work things in our favour for once and are going for the best talent available to us.

Being realistic we are only going to attract players within a certain bracket during this window, although there is nothing to say that we can’t try and get players above that bracket. I mean we did get Cabaye after all.

Hopefully Pardew is right and we do get more players in. Apparently we are looking to get four more after the Cabaye capture, plus more if players like Nolan, Barton or Enrique leave. Will it work though?

We’ll find out in 79 days!

  1. “Things are definitely moving on now, and we expect to be busier between now and the start of the season,” Pardew added.

“We’re working very hard on one or two players, and we hope to announce something soon.

“We should be able to announce a second signing, I would think, in the next 10 days.

  4. I wouldnt be suprised if we picked up a player like Sturridge or Adam Johnson on a ‘loan to buy option’ we seem to enjoy those…

  5. JJ – No, I’ve just had a dig. Everything is agreed but nothing will be signed until he gets back off holiday apparently. So it’s all but done, but not officially done.

  6. JJ@80, would be immensely surprised, and immensely happy if either of those two come off…

  7. Jobey- Why doesnt he keep his mouth shut then? spouting shyte about is signing quality players if he isnt going to be able to do it? and if he is able, why dosent he get on with it, instead of getting our hopes up, then possibly letting us down.

  8. They’d look a bit foolish if he doesn’t sign after putting it on their official site 😆

  9. Based on hendo and jones it would appear any English players fee has gone up 25%.

Graham would be the level of player I would expect but hes already signed I think.

Cant see us going for Defoe, he wouldnt come and his wages would be too high. Plus he hardly set the world alight last season did he, he needs good service and we arent exactly renowned for that are we 🙄

  10. Spencer – what do you think an interview is? do you think he should get interviewed and answer **** all. Some people moan about lack of communication, can’t win.

  11. raffo…I was surprised that Swansea touted Graham as signed, would have thought he would be one of the players on our radar..

Maybe I’m a bit slow like, but is Routledge outahere ? Has he officially signed for queensparkstrangers ?

  12. I dont moan about lack of communication though. He dosent have to do a interview? storm out like on FM11 😉 😆

  16. I dont know about Routledge. I thought he signed after the Champ season finished but I couldnt say for certain.

.Org gets on my thrupnies too, a lot more negativity on there and with only 20 comments per day its a doom and gloom place! Shame as I like some articles Hugh writes

  21. Bobby…I think Pardew outlines the areas he wishes to strengthen, Carr et al go scouting & report back. Pardew decides which ones to pursue & leaves Llambias to sort out the financial side (fee & wages).

  22. BS#9…. i love everyone at newcastle and we are going to be in great shape by the begining of the season… just you watch.. we will all be stunned with the team we have before us.

I was the first to raise the theory on this site several days ago and suggested you used it as a thread.

And you say I don’t bring anything constructive. Hmmm 🙄

  27. Toonsy…as long as the article demonstrates that Bobby is a tool 😉

Also, is there any reason why I cant see comment numbers?

      (Quote)

  28. Bobby – I’m well aware you were the first to raise it. It’s just a shame somebody pilfered it before I got a chance to do something about it.

Still, if that’s how the game is to be played then fair enough 🙂

  29. I want players as committed to the club as us supporters, disappointed in Jose but it was expected, need a good replacement though as he’s one of the best left backs in the prem 🙁

      (Quote)

  30. 109…..thats very agressive talk like lol lol!! i dont see anyone saying anything about who’s fault it is. Just that Jose is off… 100% it cant be AP or Ashley and Dekka i think as they have done their very best to prove to jose that we do have ambition and that we can match his drive to strive for the very best. We do invest heavily in the purchase of players and we are aiming for the stars. Its clearly Jose just being negative and wanting to leave for no reason at all.

      (Quote)

  31. @witters

I disagree. I believe, like Wise did with Keegan, if he identifies a player who he can get cheap and the club consider him to be a good saleable asset, they will buy him even if Pardew didn’t particularly want that player.

The reason I say this is because Ashley wants that set up. It’s fooled the fans by naming him chief scout but he is really a DoF.

    In my humble opinion.

      (Quote)

  32. Toonsy…yeah on here. I’ve never been able to see them but I’m in my phone so maybe that’s it?!?

      (Quote)

  33. Witters – Ah if you’re on your phone that will be it. I use the full version on my phone so I get comment numbers all the time. Have a look near the bottom for something like “desktop version” or what not.

On the mobile site , comment numbers are not displayed which is frustrating when people refer to them.

      (Quote)

  35. Bobby…maybe but maybe Ashley learnt from his keegan mistake & told pardew how it was going to work

To be honest as long as we bring decent players I’m not too fussed what Carrs job title is…

I do think you’re trying to stir things up & undermine pardew for mischievous reasons 😉

      (Quote)

  36. @toonsy

Is there no way of getting them on the mobile site?

      (Quote)

  37. Bobby – I’ll take a look at it. Got a few things going on with site development at the moment so I’ll add it to the list 🙂

      (Quote)

  38. Witters – Or just switch the mobile site off so all everyone gets is the full site which will just eat the data usage on their phones 😆

      (Quote)

  39. @witters

Are they just not raising a point which in my opinion is important.

I am of the same opinion that as long as Pardew is happy with the situation then crack on.

It’s the fact that it makes Patdew look daft at times. He says one thing, particularly stating Barton has 6 years left at the top and wants him to stay. The club then offer him a 2 yr contract.

If Pardew wants to be a coach then that’s what he should be titled.
I prefer a manager who has the final say as I wouldn’t want a DoF picking my team for me.

    Each to their own.

  40. Stop using comment numbers!!!!!!! I’m on the mobile site!!!!!! 😛

  41. I cant belive how unlucky the timing is for our mamagemet team… only just on friday they sign up cabaye and announce it after re-assuring him we are going to bring in some top players and push for europe within a year and then just a day later its wrongly printed in papers that we dont want europe but top ten and we can not compete on top clubs and their salaries and then but sheer bad luck…just a day or so after announcing cabaye to the world we find out that jose is leaving. such bad bad luck.. who could have known two days after buoying the fans with cabaye its said jose is off? it makes our bosses look like they were holding off on telling us about jose until they had got a half decent first name through the door to soften the blow… when we know this just isnt true!

  42. Why has my PC switched to the mobile site ❓ How do I revert back ❓ 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  43. Craig, how can’t you see it, it’s all smoke and mirrors, we’re talking about millions of quid here. Just cos Cashley has millions, doesn’t mean he likes hoying his (or the fans) money around ?

      (Quote)

  44. European places are in the top 10, not really a hard concept to grasp is it? 🙄

      (Quote)

  45. Anyone think the club should officially put Jose on the transfer list ❓
It would appear that he is holding out for a move 👿

      (Quote)

  46. No i agree Richietoon – except AP means exactly that – a top ten, as in tenth. … here are his own words…
” we can get a top-10 finish, we can get a top-eight finish – we can, even, get a top-six finish maybe, if things went really, really well for us”

So he then goes on to say ashelys wishes…..
“He wants to see we can get a top ten finish next year and then, maybe, we can get him excited enough to attack the top level after that. That’s where we want to be.”

So what we are aiming for is 9th or 10th – which is great. If we are lucky we can get 8th he is saying. Then if we do ashley might buy into us (which is strange cos he owns the place anyway!) and then push on and try to get a euro slot.
Unless you are thinking he is implying we can get in europe next year and if you do think that, what do you think he means by saying kicking onto next level after that? Winning the prem and then the champ league??
No he is not, he is rightly saying we need to aim for a solid mid table 10th spot. I would take that right now nad be well chuffed with 10th spot. I just dont understand why he has told cabaye we will be in europe within a year though. thata all i am saying. 10th is great but dont try adn blow smoke up our ar5es with the other **** at the same time.

      (Quote)

  47. @142… i agree……..put him on transfer list now, sod him. i am bored bored bored with jose now. we need him gone now as the 10 million we could get for him will sort us out IF re-invested. No point in waiting, the bloke has turned into a to55er like AC, owen etc.

  50. Craig…Aye mate but you know as well as me that he engages gob before brain, do you really think that he means exactly 9th or 10th? because if he can aim to have us finish within 2 places(other than the bottom 2) then the guy must be a genius. 😉
Like you say 10th is realistic, owt more a bonus and that’sprobably what he means, if you’re gonna be a bullshitter you need to be good at it……unfortunately he thinks he is but we know otherwise 😉
