Taarabt welcomes Newcastle link.

Taarabt would welcome Newcastle move.
Some rumours come and go whilst others persist and last until something definite happens at the end. This one is most definitely a case of the former.

It concerns QPR playmaker Adel Taarabt who has rekindled the speculation about a move to Newcastle by admitting that he would jump at the chance to play in front of 50,000 fans at St James’ Park. It’s all a bit left field really considering all the rumours and gossip had died down, but then again it could be because we’ve recently lost Kevin Nolan to West Ham.

Taarabt had an excellent season at Loftus Road last term as he helped Neil Warnock’s Hoops to the glory of the Premier League. He was their best player by some distance and chipped in with lots of goals and lots of assists, kind of like what Kevin Nolan did for us in the Championship.

However it’s not been enough for QPR to offer Taarabt the contract that he wants and it would appear that negotiations with the West London club have reached an impasse. Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Taarabt had this to say about the lay of the land with regard to his future.

“I helped QPR win promotion but they will not offer me a better contract. They say I am already on big wages,” said Taarabt, who used to play for Morocco before he stropped off and retired from international football after being dropped to the substitutes bench for an African Cup of Nations qualifier. He continued:

“They want me to stay four years on the same terms. But I don’t want to sign for four years then after one year I am going to be back in the Championship.”

“No disrespect, but if we keep the same players, it will be very difficult to stay in the Premier League when you are playing Man United and Chelsea.”

“I understand that QPR have changed my life. People had almost forgotten me when I joined from Tottenham. But I don’t think they are being fair to me.”

Hmm fairness….. I don’t quite know what Taarabt means by fair, but it’s worth remembering that he is untried and untested at Premier League level so in a sense his bargaining hand is that little bit weaker. Someone will take a punt on him though, much like QPR did when they took him to Loftus Road. Could that someone be Newcastle United? If it was to be us, Taarabt would welcome the move.

“People say Newcastle will be good for me, that the fans love players like me,” added Taarabt. “It is fantastic to play in front of 50,000 supporters every week. I do not need one of the very big clubs at this stage.”

Now I think the lad is a cracking player, but I do question his attitude. He seems to be one of those stroppy, petulant types that goes in a huff when he doesn’t get his own way. Could we really be doing with that at Newcastle?

I know people will say that it’s a game of football and not a personality test, but it’s naive to think that personality doesn’t play a big part in professional sports. Taarabt seems to be all about himself and I don’t think we could really offer him a place in our club at the moment given the amount of change that is going on in the dressing room.

Good player, relatively untested, but no thanks!

  1. It wouldn’t be long before Taarabt and Zog were ***** slapping each other on the training pitch…with JB holding the handbags…. 😆 😆 😆 …loads of “self confidence” this bloke…

  2. Adreed Toonsy, too childish and selfish at the minute so he can look elsewhere in my opinion

  3. from last thread:

to be fair the contract Nolan got from W Ham is ridiculous, but that is sill undeniably a seriously class signing for them. 18 goals in the champ, 12 in the prem and he’ll take the captains armband on arrival – if the Hammers need anything it’s someone to tie them together and bring discipline and commitment to the squad and there’s no man better for that job than Kev. I think they’ll go up first time no problem. Saying that, I really, REALLY hope Allardyce buys Smith off us! 😆

El Toro, where’ve you been anyway mate? And what’s Barnetta like as a winger? I’ve only seen him on wisetube and read his Fifa rating 😳 Certainly not qualified to pass comment on him

  4. Thinks highly of himself despite doing nothing at top level, looked no better than routledge when he went back on loan. His arrogance is incredible, thinks we are a stepping stone to the nou camp, what a *****!

      (Quote)

  5. 😎 Nah,too risky.. I bought him to newcastle for 3million in FM. Within 1/2 season,he demand higher wages. Within 2seasons,he request transfer. 😕

  6. definite no to Taraabt – where would he fit in a midfield of Cabaye, Tiote and Ben Arfa anyway!? (It feels so good to write those three names next to eachother as toon players )

Bring in one class winger, Neil Taylor and a worthy striker. And then possibly Matuidi cos you can never have enough good players 😉

      (Quote)

  7. DevonMag, Barnetta is an out and out winger, takes people on for fun, very good with both feet and has a good cross/shot on him.

Can take a decent set-piece as shown against England….

  8. **** me its been more than 24 hours since we signed some one ,this transfer window is going pear shaped .Ashley you tight fat git get your wallet out . 🙄 😆
    God i hate sundays

  9. Even then, they’ll probably want a guarantee he’ll play and that just ain’t going to happen.imo

      (Quote)

  10. I don’t want him, he has got talent yes but I don;t think he would fit in our team plus he isn’t even proven at this level. If he did come I rekon Joey would probably give him a few words 😉 😆

  11. Now this is the sort of player who can unlock defences AND score goals. In short, if we want to improve our team and squad as awhole, you need players like this. Or do we stick with players of the calibre of Ryan Taylor, James Perch and Danny ‘square ball’ Guthrie?.
This lad is a real talent and will go far.
Please let this one be true, and let the Robbie Kean erumour be a poor joke…..

  12. I wouldn’t want taarabat coming too much of an ego ,whenever he hears something he doesn’t like he starts to sulk . I would love to see that Barnetta come in then 1 more striker .After that we need to concentrate on the defence been reading that Villa want simmo ,would like to keep the lad here and give him at least one more season to kick on .If he had better backup down the rightflank i still think he will become a better player . Let joey and smith go and offer Jose a mega, mega deal to stay , With the quality of the signings we have so far i truly believe we can kick on again next season .

    is he on the move

      (Quote)

  14. i wud let simpson go … not gud enough!! wheres alll the barnetta storys gone .. last week he was in a hotel in newcastle according to some people !! silly little rumours again 😆

      (Quote)

  15. and simpson didnt take up the offer of a new five year contract so i guess er… we will sell him!

      (Quote)

  16. lets just get rid of everyone and have an entire new sqaud.. that seems to be the plan… is this some sort of cleansing?

      (Quote)

  17. Very much agree with the outcome of this article, can’t be having someone with a bad attitude at club this stage.10million is far to much for a player who has yet to prove himself at this level. N’zogbia would be a far greater acquisition, or possibly menez.

      (Quote)

  18. Exciting times…the dominos are being lined up, the plan is taking shape….

Once Chelsea start the ball rolling by signing Lukaku……Chelsea have Torres, Anelka, Drogba up front…Sturridge out on loan…to the toon…

One Jose moves on, wherever….M’Penguin to the toon….

Obviously NO-ONE is safe at the toon…except the new blokes who we’ve just brought in…!

      (Quote)

  19. Where would he even play? We already have ben arfa guaranteed first team presumably so…15mil for a bench warmer? No thanks

Add into the fact that he got bossed by savage and it tells you how good his all round game really is…far too emotionally crippled to play for a PL team…outside of Arsenal anyway 😆

      (Quote)

  20. Great on the pitch, stupid off the pitch, but maybe because he’s a big fish in a small pond,if he comes to us with the quality of players we are signing it could satisfy his ego,i would love to see him here.Absolute no question he’s got the quality to play in the Prem.Could be a good one,imo we need to break the bank for Sturridge though.

Why sell Simpson? I wouldn’t see the point myself

He’s not very good mate, stands off too often and can’t tackle. His job is to stop the crosses which he doesn’t do 😉

      (Quote)

  22. Well if Villa are serious about Simmo and Barton then how about tempting them with a swap deal for Agbonlahor 😉

      (Quote)

  23. Berbatov loan anyone….?

He aint gonna start many games at Manure, is getting on, one would assume he would like to play now and then, and no-one will be stupid enough to match his wage demands to sign him permanently …

There again, MO was happy to sit on the bench for a “good team” than to play regularly for a lesser team… 😯

      (Quote)

  24. I am on BSN9 reality train regarding Sturridge, there is no way that we will attempt to buy him. Forget about it 😉
The loan option is a possibility though 🙂

      (Quote)

  25. Taarabt swop for Routledge and 3 million quid…. 😉

Just need to wait for the ball to start rolling…

      (Quote)

  26. TGS…I don’t think we’re interested in signing Sturridge, just loaning him… Maybe cos Chelsea don’t need to sell him just yet..

      (Quote)

  27. MM,
Agreed mate, but some folk seriously believe that we are looking to sign him 😯

      (Quote)

  28. I said on the previous thread that I was worried about the striker stuation as I cant see Ashley splashing the cash.
So a loan deal seems to be the obvious answer. I’m not sure Sturridge is the right man tho 😯 I know he has a lot of potential, but is that what we need?
I would prefer a more experienced striker even if it is on loan, but what do I know 😆

      (Quote)

  29. No thanks. His attitude stinks! Besides, we’re already stocked at midfield. Would rather promote Vuckic and see what he can bring to the team.

      (Quote)

  30. yes MM I would take Berbatov on loan.
Ticks the boxes for me like. 😛

      (Quote)

  31. TGS…I don’t think the loan is likely, Chelsea will more than likely(as they usually do) as for him to be certain of a starting place, if we’re playing one up front and Ba already signed then we won’t be able to give that assurance….that said, I hope we get him, or at least try. 😀

  32. Toonsy, what happened to AOD’s match report on the u15’s in singapore ❓

  33. Can’t see man ure letting berba go out on loan, a cheeky bid might be worth a go. It’s the club he supports so anything is possible 😉

      (Quote)

  34. Not awarding the hallowed number 9 shirt to Ba suggests to me that another striker is on the way 😉

      (Quote)

  35. His favoured team was the Italian club Milan, and he consequently modelled himself on Marco van Basten, the Dutch forward for that team. However, the 1996 European Championship, held in England, gave Berbatov a new role model; the 15-year-old Berbatov began to look up to the English front man Alan Shearer, who played for Newcastle United. Berbatov’s mother later spoke of her son’s teenage dream of playing for Newcastle United, and said that his admiration for Shearer was such that, during these years, he slept in a Newcastle shirt.

Been reading, but just not commenting much. I tend to do that, go on and off blogging.

Barnetta is quality, mate. He is a hardworking, versatile winger that looks comfortable on either wing and when he drifts inside. Always looks comfortable with the ball at his feet. Doesn’t have the pace of an N’Zogbia, but offers something different. I always think of him as a much better version of Sebastian Larsson.

      (Quote)

  38. By the way, wouldn’t be overly shocked if we were to go in for Agbonlahor. He is the right age and has pace to burn…Don’t rate him though, he can’t finish for toffee.

Will you be changing your name again when Jose goes ❓

  40. BB@46….

I know I posted the original rumour to a Berrbatov loan, but I wonder generally how we would react if we were the likes of Berbatov or Owen…

One has apparently achieved everything football wise, have a shed load of money in the bank, are approaching the end of ones career, and wonder…should I just sit tight, sit on the nbench, and make the money. Or should I make a llast move to enjoy the last years of my career…?

There are a few blokes getting there…Robby Keane, Anelka, Berbatov, Owen…plus a few more I would imagine who I haven’t posted here. What would we do…probably move out on loan somewhere, but it would probably have to be to a club who would pay my wage demands…a good sporting perspective would also be a plus…..Toon anyone….? 😆

  41. I’ve always said before the window opened for us to go after Taarabt. But that was before, after the surprisingly rapid and promising moves in the transfer market I believe he won’t have a starting position in the ‘New’castle team. He has bags of skill and I would have loved him here, but if he ain’t playing he’s a twit and has worse tantrums than N’Zogbia’s did while he was here.

I think we should go all out for Marvin Martin or Ryad Boudebouz and Sturridge. We do that and we might even clinch a Champions League berth.

      (Quote)

  42. fair enough, I certainly won’t be complaining if we bring him in then! I just think if Zog goes to Sunderland then he’ll score at least one goal in every game he plays against us. Personally, I’m really worried about the early derby at the SOL – granted it looks like we’ll have a quality starting eleven by then but we need the core of the team to show the new boys exactly what it means to play in (and win) and derby like that. If Colo, Saylor, Barton and Tiote (include Ameobi, Simpson and Gutierrez on the periphery) and around then I’ll feel a lot more comfortable. As long as there are players in the dressing room to drill in the importance and tell the new boys about the 5-1, then I’ll be happy!

I really hope the board surprise us with a big marquee signing, we’ve got the money let’s face it. Matuidi, Barnetta/zog, Naylor, M’bengue (if required) and number nice material. Preferably Sturridge, if not, someone else a little bit glamorous!

      (Quote)

  43. *A derby like that & ARE around then 🙄

ps Marvin Martin is a great shout, would love him in. Think Boudebouz is seriously overrated though, myself.

  44. DevonMag-No worries, I think Shola will have written some war poetry for the pre-match build up. Then he’ll use his mastery of psychology to make sure all the lads are geared up, even the new frenchies

  48. @jayjay 42 ask ur self agbonlahor or lovenkrands. agbonlahor seems to fit the mould of players where buying young hungry with plenty of pace and has prem experience i for one would have him. he terrorised defences when o’neill was there with his pace alone he just seems like he needs a fresh start. 3m plus simpson good deal

  49. Morning? Check the time Newkie, although, I have just got oot of bed 😆

  50. moore83 thats what i thought as well , the lad looked very good when he came onto the scene when Mon was there . Imagine with his pace what he coud do with the likes of HBA and our new french players around him . They want Barton ans Simmo lets do a straiht swap those 2 for him ,then we still have money to rebuild the defence .

      (Quote)

  51. “They want me to stay four years on the same terms. But I don’t want to sign for four years then after one year I am going to be back in the Championship.”

“No disrespect, but if we keep the same players, it will be very difficult to stay in the Premier League when you are playing Man United and Chelsea.”

I don’t like him, he always seems like a big head, he was on the bench for Morroco and said he would never player for them again, the sort of player we need at this club with so many changes going on and big competition for places?
