Newcastle close in on striker.

Erdinc: Ready to move?
Newcastle are ready to up their offer for Paris St Germain striker Mevlut Erdinc in the hope that it will be enough to conclude the deal.

The only offer thus far has been £5 million from Newcastle, but with PSG quoting prices of £8 million we’ve come up short. However it does seem that both clubs recognise the need for compromise and a bid of £6.5 million has apparently been submitted by the Tyneside outfit, which PSG have indicated would be enough.

It seems as though we’re very keen on bringing Erdinc to NUFC as we’ve been linked with him for over a year now. I don’t really know what he is like as a player in truth, but from the Dennis Wise style scouting videos I’ve seen of him he looks like he can finish and has a few tricks up his sleeve.

Goalscoring seems to be one of the problems have with him. Granted he isn’t the most prolific striker that has ever graced the football field, but it doesn’t mean to say that he is rubbish. He might not be an out-and-out striker, like Craig Bellamy for example. Bellamy’s strike-rate was about one in three for us, but his impact on the team when he was playing was far greater. Maybe Erdinc will be the same if he ever moves to Newcastle?

If we did end up with the Turkish international we can still expect another striker to join them on top. Alan Pardew said in midweek that he is looking to add two more strikers, and that was after the capture of Demba Ba. We’ll see on that.

This rumoured transfer has been going on for a while now, so it’s about time either something concrete developed or we moved on to other targets. The ironic thing is that another Toon target, Kevin Gameiro, could have paved the way for this move to finally happen.

You watch, the ‘move’ will be off again tomorrow…..

  1. Great! 6.5m sounds fair. Now time to get Sturridge, surely with Chelski likely to get Falcao and/or Hulk!

  2. If we get this guy for 6.5 will be great buisness again on our part. He lloks like a speedster which is what pardew wanted i just hope he has a decent work rate i hate explosive speedsters (Martins 😈 ).

Ive seen a few places now that Stoke have or are going to bid for Sturridge 6 million which seems a bit cheap i would say about 8-12 million for him i just wishsomething would happen with him im getting sickof hearing everyone talking about him like he is messi or something.

By the sound of it Pards is trying to build a squad with depth which is what we have lacked the last few years i just wish he would target a few more defenders.

  3. Love the comment “Bellamy’s strike-rate was about one in three for us, but his impact on the team when he was playing was far greater.”

Widely acknowledged as the most disruptive influence in the Toon dressing room I think it is fair to say that his impact was “far greater”

  4. @3 he says “but his impact on the team when he was playing was far greater.” he didnt mention the dressing room and it couldnt of been that bad we were playing in the champions league

      (Quote)

  5. I think him and shearer hate each other now so he must off been a c*nt and any interview ive seen him do he is a complete tool

      (Quote)

  6. what happens in the dressing should stay in the dressing room and really shouldnt concern the fans as long as he performed on the pitch which is all that mattered tbh

  7. Not worried about his record of goals scored exactly, that can and will improve imo. with the right coaching and the team around him.
If he comes he will probably be on an incentivised contract, ie low (Ha Ha) basic salary with bonuses for goals scored.
Hopefully this should keep him motivated to keep banging them in.

Still think people are dreaming regarding Sturridge, although I’ve never heard Chelsea come out and say he’s not for sale or owt. But I am certain Ashley wont spend the kind of money Chelsea will be expecting ie circa £15-20M.

Anyway I will be happy if we can just get this deal sorted asap.

Sturridge wants first team football and he wont get it at Chelsea or any of the other big teams apart from maybe Spurs but they will prabably go for someone bigger. So in order to get what he wants he will have to move to a smaller team. So think it is very possible for him to come here.

I would prefer Erdinc and a big fella like Wickham or someone like that.

  9. I like the look of this erdinc fellow. I think he could be good for us in truth although I guess we won’t know until he has a go at the premier league

      (Quote)

  10. Santii – I agree he wants 1st team football, I also agree that he isn’t good enough to start for any top 6 side.
Finally, his wage demands are ridiculous and Ashley wont spend that kind of money (£15-20M) on a potentially good player.

I wish you people would face reality. This kind of transfer is not going to happen at NUFC.
The kind of deal we are looking at are players for £1M+ who in a few years will maybe worth £5-10M. Not players for £15M+ who in a few years might be worth £15M+ IF they reach their potential.
Just not gonna happen. Forget it.

  11. Toonsy so do I mate.
Think he could be prolific with the right team around him.
Fingers crossed we get this one over the line.

  12. @prenandup…….Never bloody heard of him ..
Where do some people get these names from?

  13. Aye prem and up genus a very good player!

Toonsy how did you work out we were ‘close to signing This new chap? I know we have been linked for a while but has anything else come up?

  14. I’d take Erdinc, and I’d take Sturridge. Might as well toss Zog in there as well, and a few more to boot.

I’m sure that nice Mr Ashley will pay a few quid for them.

      (Quote)

  15. I really am not sure whether erdinc will be a starter … I actually think ba will play more of an attacking role with HBA and possibly erdinc or marveux playing off him.

    Would love to see;

Sturridge – loan with option to buy
    Matuidi – £10m
    Naylor – £1m
    Barnetta – 6m

Then save the rest for jan 🙄

  16. i think he looks canny mesel like,
    a little bit Thierry-esque
what i do like is he seems really two-footed which is always a bonus, so by the look of it, he can head, score with both feet and looks powerful. really hope we sign this guy. There seems to be ppl thinking this Gameiro guy is replacing him at PSG therefore he must be a reject? well im much more confident this guy will be better than KG in the prem, i dont think these midgets are always successful (hence him not wanting to come to Eng) and PSG have just qualified for Europe so they must of had a decent season, theyre now a French Man City with a bottomless pit of cash :s

      (Quote)

  17. also as someone who plays FM 2011 i think its a bit ridiculous were getting linked with sissoko and matuidi and some others as we are simply not yet in a postion to attract these type of guys!

i actually think that looking at potential formations two holding midfielders could yet be required as we will need to get that ‘balance’ in the side.

      (Quote)

  18. but i just hope that as a team we retain our physical presence that we had successfully last season.

I hope this transfer window really sees us get rid of the fringe players and generally inmprove the quality we have, even if it means we have an even smaller squad!

Carver said somet the other day that we struggled to break teams down at times which was absolutely true so im encouraged by that, and we all remember Stevenage!!

      (Quote)

  19. Noticed from a YouTube clip that Erdinc was wearing the number 9 shirt and looked good scoring with both feet. Is he going to fill our vacant number 9 shirt instead of trying for the much more expensive Sturridge. The way this window has gone it’s more than likely.
Can anyone say what Number shirt Erdinc was wearing last season as a matter of interest.

  20. Steve Harper to Sellic just before the end of the current transfer window, on loan with a view to buy. Krul and Foster to battle it out for no 1 spot at the toon…

You heard it here first… 😉

  21. Am I missing something ref his goal scoring record?………over the past couple of weeks I’ve read a few say it’s not great 😯 I every 2.2 doesn’t seem to shabby to me and it’s better than Gameiro’s 1 in 2.7 who alot were getting hard ons over in the not to distant past 😉

If that’s the case we shouldn’t have sold our best striker.

What people forget about selling good players, for whatever price is that how much will it cost to replace them? By trying to replace them with £1m + players is a huge risk.

  23. @25 well spotted. there is no doubt he has talent just hope we get this guy and we will be in much better shape than last year

  25. erdnic is a psg reject. according to french football journalist phillipe oclair (who actually talks sense) he said hes been a flop at psg and they are looking to get rid asap. to be honest ive never heard of him, and just because he was a flop their doesnt mean he will be one with us. however people..calm down. when he gets 20plus goals end of next season il calm up : )

      (Quote)

  26. ps – i need to get this off chest cos we are some of the worst fans at this. kevin nolan THANK YOU.. we didnt offer you the contract you wanted, ashley ACCEPTED an offer from west ham and they offered you a fantastic contract that all of us HYPOCRITE FANS would have accepted in our own lives. im not gonna be one of those fans that now hes gone will start chatting **** like “all he did was score goals anyway”. we knew this, i knew this wen i was at st james last year on that famous day beating the macams. so once again kev thanks, you were a top player for us and wish you the best. its a shame (although not disaster) we decided to sell. Hopefuly we can move on with better players, time will tell

  27. @31

Mate thats like saying sturridge is a reject at chelsea i dout that journo has any idea wtf he is talking about. A flop who has been used 70 times by PSG and scored 28 for them, how is PSG not won the league yet if thats a flop for them???

      (Quote)

  28. oh and ps i dont think anyone on this site talked sh*t about nolan unless they were giving good reasons he was sold, which are good reasons. So get of your high horse mate your not the only one who appreciated nolan

  32. @army

we could get another good player N.Taylor :D) with that 1.5 million why overpay when they are going to meet us half way? Just for the sake of 1 more week we would lose out on that money no point at all and we are the only team to have bidded for him so there is no rush.

      (Quote)

  35. well its being reported that the 5 million was rejected they want 8 but are willing to meet us half way so 6.5 but that is all rumour so im not sure how true all this is but ive read it in a few places so there must be some truth to it.

      (Quote)

  36. fingers crossed eh santii 😆 , the joys of the transfer window eh , exciting stuff 😀 , best transfer window i can remember for a long time , we ussually never buy any1 til the last day or get sum1 **** on loan lol

  37. I know its Sunday and the papers all write **** but the sunday sun reckons that Stephen Ireland could still come to the Toon , i know he was injured while here but this ,if it comes off could be a good move . Him and Barton were great when playing together at Citeh and are mates ,if he signs then just maybe Joey will calm down and rethink his position and sign a contract extention if its still not too late for the Fat Man to reconsider and give him a new deal . Its clear that Pardew rates ireland and he is a better player than Nolan when fully fit .

      (Quote)

  38. I think (from the descriptions) that, as well as a striker, the player I’d really like is Matuidi. To have a strong defensive central midfield gives freedom to the Ben Arfas and Cabayes to get forward. Also, am I the only one who actually thinks that there is more to Tiote than just tackling and cover? – he can look good when he goes forward in support and would have more freedom with another strong player alongside.

  39. Richie 😉

I think that’s just normal link though for them, they always get linked with these type of players. Hopefully they have bigger fish fry 😆

  40. Where did the price 15-20mil come from that’s just what people have commented that does not mean that is sturridges prices I would not be surprised if 9 was the most he went for

      (Quote)

  41. Dan….I meant as in always being linked to those types of players these days 😛

      (Quote)

  42. Matuidi would be better than Sissokho, but I doubt we will get either. Will be a major coup if we do end up with one on our books.

With regards to Mr Auclair, I heard that interview he gave to Talksport and was quite shocked to hear how harsh he was being about Erdinc. It was certainly NOT warranted. Erdinc was injured last season and never regained form, but he is definitely a good player and any journalist worth their salt would say the same. Saying that, what do you expect from a glory hunting United fan like Mr Auclair.

PSG fans may well want him out, but they are some of the most deluded French fans around. They believe they have a right to success and are very harsh on their off-form players.

As I have said numerous times, he’s good, but not great. He will improve our squad. He is calm in front of goal and has decent technical ability to go along with blistering pace. If we get him for 6.5mill it will be good business as I expected him to arrive for around 8-9mill myself.
