Time for Ashley to build a bridge?

Good luck Chris!
Just over six months ago Mike Ashley surprisingly sacked manager Chris Hughton, a move which angered many supporters as they felt that Chris was doing as good a job as possible in his first season back in the Premier League.

Anyway that was then, this is now. Newcastle have moved on now and finally Chris has been given the chance to move on at his new club Birmingham City and I’m sure all supporters would love to wish Chris all the best in his new role.

I will be giving Chris some support as, living in Birmingham, I’ll be going to watch a few of the friendlies at St Andrews and show some respect to a man who held us together during rather turbulent times. It will also of course relieve my withdrawal symptoms that I’ve suffered since the end of last season and I can’t wait to watch some football again!

Many of us Newcastle supporters felt that Mike Ashley was rather disgraceful in his treatment of Chris Hughton, but maybe now that Chris has a new job Mike could help out the man that done such a great job for him?

Birmingham City find themselves in the Championship after a mixed season in which they won the League Cup but ended up relegated on the final day of the season. Many of their better players are rumoured to be moving on to pastures new which will leave them with a thin squad and I personally would like to see our club help out the man who got us out of the Championship at the first time of asking.

I think it would be a great move for all concerned if we were to send some of our fringe players on loan to gain some valuable first team experience. If players like Haris Vuckic, Shane Ferguson and Phil Airey go on loan to Birmingham, I’m sure they will get a lot of playing time at quite a competitive level and who knows, they may even be able to gain some European experience.

I still think that Mike Ashley owes Chris Hughton big time, but will his ego allow him to help his former manager who showed nothing but respect to the club and its supporters through some miserable times?

Personally I would love to see Chris Hughton do a great job at Birmingham City and get them back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. And if some of our young players can help them achieve this, I think it will be smiles all around.

So is this a plan with no drawbacks? It certainly looks like one too me, as these young players will not get much playing time at our club yet, but maybe after a good season and plenty of time on the pitch, we might get to see what these players are really capable of and is young Haris as good as what we are lead to believe? Only time will tell.

Good luck Hooters!

  1. Raffo,

I wouldn’t want any player from Arsenals defence, apart from Vermeulen. They are terrible.

  17. Newkie

I think he was quicker when he was younger (he played for Real Madrid and Chelsea once upon a time). But yeah agreed, he looks like he’s been fckin kneecapped or summit. 😛

  18. Make the most out of it then Spencer 😆

DJG-Yeah I’ve heard that but I never saw him at Real and didn’t give him much attention when he was at Chelsea. Still, when Ryan Taylor makes fun of you for pace you know your bad. My dad is 61 this year and no word of a lie he could probably run rings around him

  19. Newkie – Most of our team are slow mate. Im pleased we’ve signed Marveux and I think even Ba is quicker than what we had. More pacy signings please!!!

It’s great when your playing a team with a slow defense or older fullbacks or whatever and Cabaye puts a ball through (that Barton is supposed to be able to do 🙄 ) and we get someone in behind who is a rocket not an old donkey. Im starting to forget what that feels like after years of donkeys and tugboats.

  20. In fact I am struggling to think of anyone who has done that consistantly post Dyer and Bellamy. 😕

Martins was quick (not as quick as hyped up to be) but he was fooking shyte so it was wasted.

  21. Aye, we’ve lacked pace for time, Jonas has it but he’s not got quick acceleration so its not very obvious, Arfa had the full package and really showed us all what we were missing. Just like when Tiote showed us a true DM and what we’d been missing with Smith and ****…

I know what you mean, I think Barton is capable of those balls but we haven’t had any players capable of making those runs. The only team we really hurt with our pace was Brum. Stephen Carr against Enrique/Jonas, says it all 😆

  22. I think there needs to be at least 2 forwards in the squad with some pace but it is all about how it is used. Not many player can make expert runs to beat the offside trap (Shola still doesn’t know what it is) and then be on their way towards goal and even then they need a midfielder who can hit it while they are onside and precisely into their path. I think Sir Bobby was a master at teaching this to his sides and at the time we had a canny few goals scored either directly (one-on-one) or indirectly (rebounds ect) from this. In the last few years though we have not really seen this at all and all our goals now come from either knock downs or set pieces or route one or whatever yawn.

      (Quote)

  23. Yeah I know what you mean, its a little maddening how few of our goals have been from well worked passing and good movement, and even the ones we have scored the defences were often shambolic. Another pacey striker would be nice, but like you said its about how we use it…if we got Nzogbia then a pacey striker wouldn’t neccessarily be needed and we could make do with those at a similar level to Ba…but I highly doubt we’ll get him. Hopefully Arfa won’t have lost any pace, but we can’t shoulder him with too much, lets hope Marveux can step up to the plate.
