Newcastle after a small donkey as Erdinç move hits snag!

Juan Manuel Martinez.
Newcastle are looking to add some more Argentinian flair to the side, if you believe the Daily Mail.

The Mail reports that Velez Sarsfield striker, Juan Manuel Martinez is the subject of interest from Alan Pardew and Co as they look to bolster the attack. The 25-year-old doesn’t have a great goalscoring record (29 goals in 177 appearances) but it’s worth pointing out that he is not an out and out striker and is used more as the creative player in attack, or the second striker. He can also play on the wing.

The former winner of the Football of the Year award back in his native Argentina is someone that I haven’t haven’t got a clue about in all honesty. His nickname is ‘small donkey’ which doesn’t fill me with optimism although perhaps it’s a compliment in Argentina? I mean Jonas Gutierrez is nicknamed ‘the greyhound’, so go figure.

Meanwhile, back in France, it would appear that a move for Mevlut Erdinc is no nearer as PSG attempt to use the Turkish international to their benefit as they look to use him as a makeweight in a deal for Eden Hazard.

Apparently the Parisian outfit have bid €31.5 million PLUS the services of Erdinc for Lille schemer Hazard. We’ll keep an eye on that one, but it doesn’t look like this deal is going to fall in our favour so it will be back to the drawing board in terms of planning our attack for next season.

So what do you make of these two? Personally I don’t believe the first one for a minute as it seems as though it’s plucked out of thin air, or two hats – one with player names and one with football teams. I think The Mail pulled our name and his name out of the transfer tombola sometime last night. I must admit though, having a big donkey little donkey combo of Shola and Martinez up front would be quite amusing 😛 NEXT!

As for the second one, well I guess time will tell. I’d quite like Erdinc here as I think he could be good for us and give us that bit of pace that we are lacking up front, but if PSG don’t want to deal with us then what can we do? We’ve bid, then bid again apparently so beyond that there isn’t much else we can do. I doubt Erdinc would turn down the chance of playing in the Champions League with Lille, although would Hazard drop out of the Champions League to go and play with PSG? Who knows.

64 transfer window days to go!

  10. I think we should abandon attempts to sign erdinc and concentrate on Sturridge, he has to be the best available forward within our price-range. We should take advantage of the unrest at Chelsea and their reported interest in Falcao and snap him up before someone else does.

  11. ‘donkey’ might suggest he’s a very hard worker, and takes a lot on, but I wouldn’t wipe my **** with the Daily Mail.

      (Quote)

  12. Agree SD75 , think Sturridge would be great us , but i dunno if we will spend that sort of wedge on one player , cant see it to be honest , but we live in hope 🙂

  13. If we do sign another Donkey it will come as no surprise to most of us as we have had plenty over the years, list is far to long to mention em all 😉 I know everyone says Smith is a great lad and is good in the dressing room, just a shame he is a greek tragedy on it,bloody expensive one as well

  14. Who comes up with this rubbish??? 🙄
For a start, all anyone has to do is go to the PSG website and check out that the club chairman has publicly stated that they only have 10 million Euro’s in the war chest and will have to SELL in order to buy anyone to strengthen their squad.
Then, if we are to believe the “rumours” of PSG transfers they are going to be spending 80 million Euro’s plus in this week alone on various players including the likes of Adebayor, Clichy, Pastore & Ochoa to name a few….
I wish we had a magic pot of gold that never runs out like they do 😉

  15. The question is, does anyone have eyes that are good enough to read The Chron. I know I don’t 😆

  17. I can make out some of it slowly.

“NEWCASTLE UNITED are not ready to join the race to sign England under-21 star Daniel Sturridge.

“The Chronicle understands Sturridge is not in Alan Pardew’s sights…something… Magpies with a swoop for the Chelsea ace.

Sturridge is available for loan or sale…”

Blah. It’s hard. The article goes on to mention something about Neil Taylor looking increasingly likely to be able to join.

  18. Anyone think that the Albanians will sign this Whickham kid? seems like canny player but think the price is a bit high,Suppose Cabbage Patch has to keep the natives off his back, the longer he stays there the better..he is doing a perfect job pmsl

      (Quote)

  19. I just don’t see anything about Wickham that justifies his price tag. 15 goals in 75 Championship games….. 😕

      (Quote)

  20. In total agreement about Whickham, much ado about nothing, goals to games ratio is nowt special at all,and thats in the lower leagues

      (Quote)

  21. If the Back Pages of the Chronicle are to be believed…..its apparent that Alan ‘Puppet’ Pardew and the fat controllers have no idea what would work at our club…..or what a good transfer potential is if it slapped them in the face!!……Headlines- ‘Dan’s not the man’ – Yup, that’s right Alan Pardew is not looking at Daniel Sturridge as a potential transfer target!!!!!!!…….no instead he’s looking elsewhere which basically means he’s looking to cheap foreign sh*te!!!……i was led to believe that our policy was young, proven and with a sell on potential….and of course 22 year old proven premiership goal scorer, with the potential to break into the senior England squad this season and available for between 6 and 8 mil……doesn’t fit into this?….really?…and an egyptian 25 year old who’s current team preferred to go out and spend £11m on a new striker than try and persuade him to stay does?????????????????????????????????????……..This transfer window is gonna p**s me off royally because it just stinks of basically trying to stay Mid table…we aren’t even trying to better our team……!!!!……If alan ‘ puppet’ pardew really is having the final say on transfers…..the sooner he goes the better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      (Quote)

  22. Think I will partake of a lot of reserve games gain this season, like watching what we might have in the future, keep waiting for my season ticket to fall on the mat but nowt so far,im just an impatient gitt I reckon

      (Quote)

  23. That’s the thing Lee, 85% of the time the back pages of the Chronicle aren’t to be believed, I don’t even trust the obituary column in there half the time 😉

      (Quote)

  24. Aye agree on wickham, They really make me laugh constantly taking the **** out of our strikers but their soon to be new kevin kyle cant even hit double figures in the championship, Shola, Loverman, Best, Guthrie and Routledge outscored him in the fizzy in our promotion season and Jonas and Raylor scored as many as him… 🙄 😆

      (Quote)

  25. Lee at 36 , i think you answered your own rant there in the first line

If the Back Pages of the Chronicle are to be believed…..

    IF…..wait n see

      (Quote)

  26. @Lee…I very much doubt that Sturridge would go for less tha 20m so there figures are well wide of the mark, but if the Toon dont fancy him in the black and white stripes then Pardew needs horse whipped. We all know he is just a total puppet qand we are destined to troll the world for cheap transfers and having a punt on unproven ****.Its what Ashley is all about,by ***** n sell it on at a profit.Mid table is as good as we are ever gonna get mate, sucks though, but still true

      (Quote)

  27. Lee@36, “young, proven and with a sell on potential”, yes but you forgot the word “cheap”, it plays a major part in our transfer policy. Sturridge will go for 15m+, which is probably way out of our league.

  28. I think Whickam will be a decent player in the future, unfortunately(or fortunately) the scum need a decent player now so Mrs doubtfire will be gone by Xmas but luckily for him there’ll be a senior post available as the “big fella” in Fenwicks Grotto at that time, downside being that he’ll have to see Bobby no9’s **** on a regular basis 😉

      (Quote)

  29. Surely we want Brucey to keep his job don’t we? He’s done so well and all… 😆

Seriously wouldn’t want to risk them actually getting a decent manager..

      (Quote)

  30. Newkie…I’d love him to stay, unfortunately though his managerial abilities are going to make that an impossibility

      (Quote)

  31. Of course we need him to stay.he is doing a sterling job for the unwashed. They are even talking about Euope, not a lot of their so called fans actually know where that splendis place is,as the wonders of it have only been passes down through generations, the original visitors to those shores set sail from Scum Central many, many moons agao on a ferry with sails on it!!

  34. Jobey, a seen someone retweet it from something called ‘A game of 2 halves’. Probably bull but I thought I’d share it with you’s.

  37. TGS – he tweets like “can’t be arsed with this game today” when he’s playing for the reserves

      (Quote)

  38. TGS – Pretty much what Jobey said.

He has the same attitude as one lad who pissed me off the other day when I was half hour late. He wanted me to apologise and got gobby, hissed his teeth at me and got right in my face. I REALLY hate that, and attitude, and he gave both so I pinned him up against the side of the bus before calming down. Arsehole 👿

  39. Toonsy,
Be careful mate, there are many people out there looking for a reaction whilst there mate records it on a mobile and then contacts the Polis reporting an assault. 👿
