Newcastle after a small donkey as Erdinç move hits snag!

Juan Manuel Martinez.
Newcastle are looking to add some more Argentinian flair to the side, if you believe the Daily Mail.

The Mail reports that Velez Sarsfield striker, Juan Manuel Martinez is the subject of interest from Alan Pardew and Co as they look to bolster the attack. The 25-year-old doesn’t have a great goalscoring record (29 goals in 177 appearances) but it’s worth pointing out that he is not an out and out striker and is used more as the creative player in attack, or the second striker. He can also play on the wing.

The former winner of the Football of the Year award back in his native Argentina is someone that I haven’t haven’t got a clue about in all honesty. His nickname is ‘small donkey’ which doesn’t fill me with optimism although perhaps it’s a compliment in Argentina? I mean Jonas Gutierrez is nicknamed ‘the greyhound’, so go figure.

Meanwhile, back in France, it would appear that a move for Mevlut Erdinc is no nearer as PSG attempt to use the Turkish international to their benefit as they look to use him as a makeweight in a deal for Eden Hazard.

Apparently the Parisian outfit have bid €31.5 million PLUS the services of Erdinc for Lille schemer Hazard. We’ll keep an eye on that one, but it doesn’t look like this deal is going to fall in our favour so it will be back to the drawing board in terms of planning our attack for next season.

So what do you make of these two? Personally I don’t believe the first one for a minute as it seems as though it’s plucked out of thin air, or two hats – one with player names and one with football teams. I think The Mail pulled our name and his name out of the transfer tombola sometime last night. I must admit though, having a big donkey little donkey combo of Shola and Martinez up front would be quite amusing 😛 NEXT!

As for the second one, well I guess time will tell. I’d quite like Erdinc here as I think he could be good for us and give us that bit of pace that we are lacking up front, but if PSG don’t want to deal with us then what can we do? We’ve bid, then bid again apparently so beyond that there isn’t much else we can do. I doubt Erdinc would turn down the chance of playing in the Champions League with Lille, although would Hazard drop out of the Champions League to go and play with PSG? Who knows.

64 transfer window days to go!
