Hypocr…Ashley?

Mike Ashley
Hypocrisy?
Thursday the 13th July, the day that brought news of Newcastle United’s unpredictable transfer saga full circle.

It started with the news from the proverbial horse’s mouth that a certain Charles N’Zogbia wouldn’t be joining the French revolution on Tyneside, if indeed this was ever the case.

Alan Pardew came out with the seemingly peculiar statement of the ever-changing stance on transfer targets and what lay ahead for in terms of future recruitment of players this summer. Could this be a change of heart from those above? Or has Pardew finally got to stick his oar in when going forward with signings?

Pardew stated: “I am told that Charles has got an imminent move, so I don’t think that will be us.”

Now, what to make of this little snippet of information? First off, you have to ask yourself as a supporter, were we ever really interested in N’Zogbia and was it all to do with a certain social networking site that many have come to either love or hate?

However, when you take a few steps back from all the rubbish and rumour, you will quickly be reminded of how in January a certain Andy Carroll was sold virtually last minute without any form of replacement. Sky Sports News then broke the news that Newcastle had out of nowhere bid TWICE for N’Zogbia from Wigan. Seemingly this was sanctioned from above Pardew and to some extent is viewed as a softener for the loss of our local number nine.

You may be asking yourself why the Hypocr…Ashley headline?

Well, surely if Mike Ashley was willing to bid close to £10 million for him in January on transfer deadline day then he would have bid that same amount again once the transfer window re-opened?

In terms of who is a target for Newcastle United these days is anyone’s guess due to the over saturated market of player price, contract situation and media exuberance to sell a paper. On the other hand, you begin to look at the players Newcastle have already brought in and what good acquisitions they are to the current squad regardless of price and how much they are paid a week.

With these players and hopefully the purchase of a couple more as stated by Alan Pardew then hopefully the majority of fans will begin to calm down and disperse any memories of transfer failings whoever the player.

Then again, there are always the sceptics that will question these almost u-turn decisions and lack of clear statements from the club and its executives. Honestly, I am probably one of these sceptics
that fall into the category of believing Ashley’s saying one thing one minute then going along with it until it all changes.

Getting irate at the lack of understanding between management and supporter is something I think we all have to accept as apart of the modern game but keep on supporting the players and team that we love no matter what.

Thanks to ethi-toon for sending this in.

  1. I mentioned the fact that your captains job was to encourage players to stay with us not leave for somewhere else but very few wanted to admit that he was just as bad as Judas for helping make up his mind and packing his bags.
Actually its funny looking back at the stick I got for never getting behind Nolan as I always said he was more interested in himsel and being the main man rather than what was right for the Toon. 😉

It was funny when in the build up to the Liverpool game how he came out and said how he was going to kick Carroll 😆 apart from the fact that he couldn’t catch him anyway, he was missing for the whole game the gutless *****

  4. Yeh it showed Nolan up for what he really was/is – for him to have the audacity to come out and say that and think that nobody would say anything – blvd in himself a bit too much …. he got away lightly … he played game of being AC’s best mate and becos of that most people turned a blind eye to his comments ridiculous .. and he did help us not saying he wasnt integral to our promotion and last year but i lost my respect for him – sure hes bothered! haha

Off topic I worked on a Vauxhall commercial today and Peter Shilton got paid £45k for an hours appearance.. that should keep the bookies happy for a few days like, acted like a real gent though…

  13. I see nothing of great interest has happened.

Right now, In just thinking. If we bring in one striker. And lose nobody but Xisco, Perch, or Smith, kill have been a decent transfer window.

Yes, I’m angry about the lies, about where the moneys gone. But if we can hang on to Enrique, Tiote and Barton and get a striker in… I’ll be delighted when the footie starts…

  16. JJ .. no not a lot – Erdinc has gone quiet which means either 1) its totally dead or 2) we are about to sign him and reason it is quiet is due signed confidentiality agreements

      (Quote)

  17. Dave, that’s what I was hoping, it seems sometimes the ones that arrive with the least amount of ceremony and hype ( ie Tiote) have little expectation and prove to be class.. we might not spend masses of cash but I dont think we’ll sign any donkeys this year, Carr has a great eye and he’ll be briefed very clearly about what sort of budget we have..

  18. evening everyone, if enrique goes I don’t see that as a big deal. Towards the end of the season he did not look happy at all and his performances showed that as well. I would be sad to see him go but there’s no point keeping a player who doesn’t want to play for the club. If he goes now we may be able to find a replacement sooner rather than later.

  19. TP

Unlike most, I’d much prefer a player of Erdinç’s talents to a player like Sturridge, but my worry is, if he isn’t interested, there doesn’t seem to be any other viable options…

  23. Army he is still with PSG mate so what will happen if he starts saying that he wants to move to us then something happens and the move falls through and he then has to stay there after telling everyone that he wanted to move 😉

  24. Andy

We seem to be going down the French top scorers charts for targets, So perhaps El Rabi is next in line.
Wouldn’t mimd him though, talented young player.

  26. Alright mate. Hope you’re enjoying being at Newcastle. And not all fans are like the ones who went on the pitch at Darlington, don’t worry,

    He replied…I know, it’s okay.

then i put, cheers for replying. you looked like you played well,

and he said thankyou very much

then i asked him if he enjoyed Newcastle

and he said yeaah, very much so, I like.

And he was saying how he gets on with Vuckic well, and has been to his house etc.

Army if you don’t get on with computers vuze is perfect for you, its really straight forward, you can play all your files directly from it, the library is easy to figure out and it has its own search bar too. I’m not a mega computer geek and it works for me.. the link for the templates i posted is the hardest thing to rig on it but its worthwhile doing.

  30. wasn’t too keen on the orange at first but i think it looks pretty good on the players. Don’t see the point in a black 3rd kit though seeing as our home kit bar 2 stripes and the arms are black

      (Quote)

  31. aye rinton , i hate the orange strip but im trying to like it 😆 😆 i might buy it and see if i change my opinion 😕 😕

Toonpipes, aboot players on the lash like I think it’s beneficial having players like Abied and Ben Arfa who are practising Muslims and therefore technically wont be getting w*nkered down the quayside on a Sat night, (or anywhere for that matter) I’m pretty sure if I was a pro footballer I’d have a drink problem and a regular appointment at the Croft centre… They’ll be good lads I reckon.

No, then we were desperate because time was short , now we are not because we have already had some players come in plus Ben Arfa is now back from injury. So it is understandable.

I think Ashley has done a good job since our return from the Championship. The Decisions he has made save for sacking Hughton I cannot find fault. He has learnt a lot since his disasters. Sacking Hughton might also be the result of his learning and that is fan favourites can be very dangerous. Hughton was clearly a fan favourite.
