It’ll be the kids in America at this rate!

Cabaye the latest to miss out on US tour.
First there was Joey Barton, then Nile Ranger, and now Yohan Cabaye. All three of them will be missing as Newcastle head to the States for a three game pre-season warm up due to problems acquiring a Visa.

At this rate we’ll be lucky to even have a team out there as, one by one, they fall foul of the US system for protecting itself against the most unsavoury of of characters. Not that the latter of the aforementioned three should be included in that description of course as apparently it was a minor technical hitch which meant that Yohan Cabaye had to miss out on the trip to the States. Instead they will fly to Holland and train with the reserves.

It’s all a bit **** to be honest though isn’t it? I mean I know some of you guys were really looking forward to seeing our full team in action on your side of the water so it must be disappointing to see two of our first team miss out? I’m not going to go all Joey Barton and start calling the USA a bunch of hypocrites. Quite simply they have their criteria, which three of our players have failed to meet. I do wonder just how much thought went into planning this tour though?

I mean it’s not hard to work out that Joey Barton was unlikely to be allowed into the USA, and consequently it wouldn’t have taken a genius to work out that Nile Ranger would fall foul of the rules for the exact same reason. Cabaye, well I’ll let them have that one, assuming that a “technical glitch” is not some soapy cover up for an axe murder or two in his past.

So what are we left with? A first team squad split by an ocean in essence with four of our first team squad playing in Europe and the rest of them over in the States. It’s hardly what you would call a seamless build up is it? It will mean that the lads have just two weeks and two games to get to know each other properly before the big kick-off against Arsenal. I hope they are quick learners!

I’m all for broadening our reach. I think it’s great that we have headed to what is largely an untapped market in terms of North-East teams, but I just wish it was thought out properly. Perhaps we should have just stayed in Europe this year? Maybe I’m making too much of it? I don’t know.

All I wanted was for the team to bond and get to know each other so we can get that sense of togetherness once again after the turbulence of the summer. Unfortunately I didn’t count on the US authorities having their say, but the shocking thing is that nether did those who planned the bloody trip in the first place!

Rant over!

  1. Yeah, but its strange that Barton could go there on holiday on a different visa, but now he cant on a different visa. Weird as are you likely to cause trouble when your there with your employers working, or when your there on your own time and can do what you like when you like without rules and direction?

    Nevermind

  2. Its pretty poor planning by the Dezz, unless he assumed he could have ridden himself of Ranger and Barton by now…which he probably did. Not sure what’s going on with Cabaye, but its frustrating that both Barton and Cabaye as key members will have much fewer opportunities to play together before season starts..particularly in Cabaye’s case.

  3. Think this tour could of been a very good idea if thought out properly , as toonsy stated we need to players to gel and the only way to do that is for them to play, So barton and Cabaye missing this tour is an impact on that. But it gives the younger lads a chance to shine.

  4. Barton would have to get a temporary work visa to “work” here while playing soccer and that’s the visa he couldn’t get as it’s much harder to get compared to a tourist visa.

It does suck that our most high profile signing will be gone from the team this summer. But as long as the 3 latinos and our black chuck norris show up I’ll be happy haha, Love those guys

That’s my quesiton as well. Half of Eurpoe tours here now and have for the past 4-5 years. this is the first time I’ve ever heard of players having visa problems.

  7. Ice – yeah cabaye is going to Holland, so he should be fit enough. Irs just a shame he won’t know how his colleagues play to go with it 😆

  8. @5 you are right about the visas. That is why there aren’t issues with getting visas for international matches since you are not performing your trade on behalf of you employer.

  10. CC – True. I still wouldn’t want to take the risk though. We need to hit tge ground running or else some fans will start to turn 😉

  11. Being in the USA i’ve only been to mls games live. I was really hoping to see cabye, barton and the rest of the team in action. This really sucks missing out on seeing an important part on the team. I’ll be at the Columbus game to cheer the lads on. Hopefully no more injurys and some awsome goals.

  15. I think the problems associated with this tour namely visa problems could have been overcome with more thought and planning. The American tour is going to be draining in itself and I don`t see the point when something could have been set up in Europe. I also don`t see the point in taking Enrique to the US when it is obvious in the near future that he will move on and be required for a medical. On the positive side I was very happy watching Cabaye and Ben A on Friday night a few more signings like that and we will be in for a treat this season.

  16. If we sold Enrique on the last day what do you guys think we’d do? Fergie at LB? Kadar? Maybe pards would revert to that 3-2-3-2?

    -Fergie——————Simmo
    —–Colo-Willo-Taylor

Fergie would be good in that role imo…but our backline? Could you trust that? Not to mention if Kadar was on loan we’d have no back up…Just hope it doesn’t happen, wouldn’t surprise me though 😆

  17. Looking on the bright side it should mean that Gosling should get more playing time in the middle of the park.

Hopefully he can start to show some of the potential that made us sign him in the first place. He will hopefully replace Guthrie in the pecking order as I think he is a lot better. I personally don’t rate Guthrie at all.

  18. So if Liverpool pay £11.5 million for Enrique who is in the last year of his contract, why cant we pay a smaller fee for NZogbia, typical of this board, sell high and buy low.

Same with Abeid and Vuckic- they are on the trip

I forgot about Vuckic it will be good for him to get some playing time also as he is another one who needs more playing time.

    Is Abeid not a winger?

      (Quote)

  21. @36. I think abeid can play in the middle as well. Reports say he looked good on friday- maybe someone on here who went to the match can say where he played

      (Quote)

  22. From what I’ve read on here and other places about him it sounded as though he is a good technical player with an eye for a pass.

Not getting carried away or anything though as it was just Darlington.

No idea where he played either though.

  23. Oblong

He played as a sort of holding midfielder, he doesn’t dribble at people he prefers space with the ball and he can pass it out wide with the sort of hollywood balls that Nicky **** used to attempt and usually fail. He took some belter corners that had inswing on them. I think he might be better than Barton and Taylor from dead ball situations. He isn’t afraid to put a tackle in either, I think the club has really done their homework on this guy he could be a good playmaker in the prem alongside Tiote.

  24. DJG – about 10 other teams are travelling more miles than us so dont panic too much!

  25. @5 and @9

Barton does not need a “work” visa to enter the US. He is not coming here to work as he is employed by NUFC. He would have needed a specific visa for athletes and artists. He also does not need a “tourist visa” to enter as he is British (The US has agreement with certain countries for the visa to be waived and England is one of them). This problem if from bad planning by the club as a waiver could have been requested and granted because his crime was only assault. But that process does take time

  26. @45

I thought you might be when i read your comment about the hollywood passes apparently he looked like he could be a very important player for us this season beside Tiote, we were talking about Abeid and we were wondering where he played against Darlington. any idea?

      (Quote)

  27. From what I saw of Abeid I was very impressed. He looked intelligent on the ball with lots of ability and craft. Maybe Ben Arfa can take him under his wing a bit and teach him some tricks. 🙂

      (Quote)

  28. Can someone explain why some of you write in blue writing but it makes no sense at all? Am I missing something? 😕

      (Quote)

  29. At Darlington he played through the middle as an attacking midfielder when Benny had been taken off. I think he can play anywhere in midfield in an attacking role or on the wing. He is rightfooted but he is probably quite two-footed.

      (Quote)

  30. DJG

Sounds as though he has some potential, As you say hopefully he can learn a from Ben Arfa.

  32. John – 😆

You just learn to not expect much from The Chronicle. It’s not their fault really. I’d bet most of the readership wants to know about Newcastle United so if they blow that by being too “journalistic” and asking the real questions that need answering then they’ll probably end up in the same place as The Mail etc etc 🙂

  33. I want to know the full story about this visa problem, BBC sport said it was a ‘minor technical error that has since been resolved’. So what’s that, like a mix up with someone else’s criminal record, or whatever ??? 😯

  34. I’m very disappointed that Cabaye won’t be playing. I was really looking forward to see what he was going to bring to the squad in the Orlando game.

Oh well. I guess there’s still Marveaux, HBA, Demba Ba, and some youngsters to prove what they can offer to the team! Howay the Lads!
