Jose fined two weeks wages over Twitter “mistake”.

Jose in happier times.
Jose Enrique has apparently been fined two weeks wages by the club following on from his outburst on Twitter on Sunday evening, according to The Sun.

Of course that makes me highly sceptical about it although it’s Steve Bremner who is reporting it and at least he is out in the USA with our squad so I’m hopeful that he has some informed views on what is going on. Maybe I’m hoping too much?

Even if you take away this alleged two week fine (which is reported to be £100,000 in total, or £50,000-a-week) it’s worth noting that Alan Pardew has had something to say about the latest Twittergate scandal. In quotes attributed to The Sun he said the following:

“Jose was wrong to put those comments up and I told him,” said Pards. “It’s a good offer which we have given him and maybe the frustration of the situation got the better of him.”

“I want him to stay, he’s a good lad but this didn’t reflect well on him. It was a mistake, he knows it and so do I.”

It was a mistake in my opinion as I believe these kind of things should be kept in house. Freedom of speech is all well and good (do we really have that in the UK anyway?) but there are times when things are best being said behind closed doors and I think this was one of them. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with much of what Jose said, but I just don’t agree with the way it was put across.

Still this is Twitter and it’s what can happen when you’re frustrated. It’s an easy outlet and Jose isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last footballer to have a bit of a rant or let slip some gossip on the micro-blogging website.

There is a meeting scheduled later this year where all 20 Premier League clubs are going to sit down together and discuss the merits and pitfalls of social media sites and the role that they play in football. From this next quote I think it’s safe to say that Alan Pardew doesn’t mind players using it, as long as it isn’t bringing anything into disrepute. He said:

“Twitter is dangerous. You can say things when you’re emotional, when it’s probably not the best time to express your feelings. I’m all for people expressing themselves – they just have to be very careful.”

Hopefully this will bring about a swift end to the whole affair, although only time will tell whether the end will result in Jose leaving St James’ Park or whether Alan Pardew will get his wish and Jose will remain at Newcastle in the interim.

Opinion is pretty split so far as you can see in our poll below. If you haven’t voted then what are you waiting for?

  1. People are only supporting Jose in this mess because they agree with his views… He is bagging out the fat man & co and it makes them happy…
Put it this way… If you ran a business and one of your employees tweeted that they didn’t like you and it got out in the public domain, how would you feel… Take the subject matter out of the equation and look at it from a point of professionalism and maturity and the whole thing reflects badly on Jose… You are 25 FFS, grow up and be a man instead of bitching like a teenage girl.. Deserves any fine he gets, if it true he is getting one…

  2. He’s acting like a ****, get somebody in and ship him out the silly *******. Morning all 😀

  3. He said he echos the opinions of Joey, what a knob Jose is! Joey is gutted because he’s being pushed out of a club he enjoys playing for. Jose is using all this to make it look like he’s being forced out when everybody knows he’s been offered a contract to stay.

  4. Jose need to ask himself “How many clubs came in for me after we were relegated”
The answer is none, because he was sh*te and it was plain for all to see..
Whilst on big wages he improved in the championship and started to show some promise.
Still on big wages, he played 3/4 of a good season back in the premiership and is constantly told how wonderful he has become 😕
Now he believes that he is bigger than the club and all it’s current players and is acting like a muppet. I hope he get’s his “dream” move just like Shay and co… It will do him good to sit on a champions league bench, it will allow him some alone time to spend reflecting how good he has become.. 😕

  5. Jay Jay – Exactly mate.If he is echoing Joey’s thoughts it was high time he signed a contract. Joey told us all on that very day that he had unfinished buissness here and even issued a thanks but no thanks retort to the Manure rumour. Joey is desperate to stay but Jose is desperate to leave.Polar opposites.Somebody should get that into his thick skull…..

  6. I voted no but i wouldn’t say i’m against the comments, just feel it could have been saved for a different time. We’ve just had new lads in and still looking at people, doesn’t look good for them. Also i think he is just trying to force his move, very measured comments. No surprise he got twitter that came out then suddenly twitters gone. I’m a bit disappointed in him if i’m honest, expected better. He doesn’t owe us anything just wish he’d had the balls to say i want to go.

  7. Aussie – i love that, i wish more players would do things like that, i love players doing something different. If he’d done that on the half way line and megged someone people would say it was the best thing since sliced bread. storm in a teacup.

  8. haha, that video is awesome. I wonder what goes through his mind. Must be the footballer equivalent of ‘that one mental friend’ everyone has.

  9. Its interesting that Jose has been fined apparently-and that Pards has had stuff to say on it, and yet Joey was just ignored. Maybe the club is afraid to take on the scouse mafia 😆

My main gripe is the veiled insult at our new players, and the fact that Enrique is talking big after playing complete toss for half a season, whereas Barton was man of the season, and continues to put the effort in..

May be he is over rated 😥

  14. Off topic slightly but why does Jose’s new contract offer have to contain a payrise in order for it to qualify as a “fantastic offer” in some peoples minds?
Imo the only reason he is still here is because few clubs if any are prepared to match the wages he currently collects at the Toon, therefore “if” he has been offered the same salary as he’s getting in his current contract and other clubs can’t/won’t match it then it still qualifies as a “fantastic offer” surely?
The same will happen when/if Colo is offered a new contract and if his salary is high as has been reported I doubt he’d be offered much more than half his current salary by another club when this one runs down and is in his 30’s no matter how good a player he is. Those on high wages now are unlikely to be offered big rises if any under Ashley, it’ll be the old “incentive based” imo contracts so we’d better get used to it 😉

  15. And, yes I support the idea that Jose’s mad a right tw@ of himself here. IT was probably frustration (at the lack of suitors?) but he’s been right out of order.

How to deal with it? Buy a quality LB now and tell Jose he’s never playing for the club again!

  19. Richie-Great point, which I agree with tbh, with how he’s played this season he deserves a pay cut, not a rise 😆

      (Quote)

  20. Toonsy, do you honestly believe that after all that has come from the club about its new prudent approach that they will pay £80,000 a week?

      (Quote)

  21. aussi @ 1 of course people are supporting jose because of his views ,but it just happens hes right ,if you agreed with every thing the labour party sed you wouldnt realy go out and vote tory would you

      (Quote)

  22. I am astonished at the views.

Jose is entitled to speak about his employers if he feels they have broke promises. How else is he going to let the fans know what’s going on.

He’s been fined which they are entitled to do.

He sees no future at our club, which shows no commitment to breaking into a euro spot. Let him speak his mind.

There have been many players in our history who have done the same, often I haven’t liked what they’ve said about our club, but ultimately you have to accept why they’ve said it and deal with it.

Get over it. You really are the candy floss trees and cotton wool cloud brigade over this issue.

      (Quote)

  23. Cmon Lesh – Theres £35 million sat there doing nothing. Surely we can use that? Oh no sorry thats for the signings. The wages should be coming from somewhere else.

Pathetic. I am one of those you mention I havent had a wage increase in 3 years and with inflation it is pretty much a reduction. £50k a week?! Get real it is amazing money for a footballer. Lets have some perspective.

And I was being sarcastic. I think he should sod off if he doesnt want to be here. Forget the fact we kept him when noone wanted him in the Championship, or last year. Has a decent season and he wants away.

  27. Hey Batty, I agree with what you are saying but there is a right and wrong way of going about things… Bitching on twatter no matter what the subject is the wrong way.. Seriously, if it were you, how would you sort a situation like this out?… Would you front those involved face to face or would you leak snide little remarks behind their backs… I have read your posts over a number of years mate and I already know what your answer will be..

      (Quote)

  28. batty….aye 😉
tbh I’m not bothered one way or the other what Jose has said, unless he did have a veiled dig at the players coming in, which is a bit out of order imo, but as for the rest of it it was nowt we didn’t already know. He’s more likely than not on his way, he’s had a go at the club they’ve fined him the usual 2 weeks pay, happens all the time.

  29. People talk about the top six like we had some rightful place to be there 😆

The fact is 75% of our time (under both Shepherd and Ashley) has been spent in the bottom half of the table.

  33. How supportive of Jose would some on here be if he slagged off us supporters on twatter?
Surely the people on here saying he did the right thing, using his freedom of speech and he is telling the truth as he sees it would be up in arms..
Why, because they would disagree with what he is saying… So he would be in the wrong and should be punished…
Maybe some on here should take their Ashley hating blood red tinted glasses off and look at what Jose has done for what it is… An immature act from a well paid. employee

The top 6 is a place we should be aiming for.
No one suggests we have a right to be there but let’s aim for it.

If we ended up 10th this season coming, you would say it was an improvement on last season and that’s good.

I suggest that they reinvest the Carroll cash and try to push on higher. That is solely what Enrique wants to see because that’s what was promised.

I will wait for the fantasists to reply that there’s several weeks to go to the end of the window but again, its inevitable that the club will sell before they buy.

For a person who states he’s been sacked for speaking his mind at work it seems hypocritical to me. 😉

Why don’t we all tiptoe up to the ground on match day and not dare talk to our mates about the regime, just in case it creates a negative atmosphere.

Or alternatively, let’s applaud Ashley and sing his virtues. That would create a great advert for potential signings.

Didn’t Keegan try to sort things out quietly behind the scenes. And then just got lied to some more.
How did that turn out again? Oh yes, a court decided Ashley lied constantly to Keegan, the press and the fans.

Problem is, taking your grievances to your boss will only have any chance of a resolution if your boss isn’t a proven compulsive liar.
