Enrique close to exit as rebuilding job grows.

Jose on his way?
Well most of the talk in the press and on sites such as Twitter seems to be centred around on Jose Enrique and how close he is to leaving NUFC.

Surprised? I’m not as I’ve been prepared for it since about February so I’m already over it. His shocking displays in the final few months of the season where he really did look like shaving his testicles with a rusty blade would be a more pleasurable than playing in the black and white stripes was for him, along with his public tirade (however right he may be) on Twitter with the rather rapid deletion of his account soon afterwards have made it a lot easier for me to deal with.

My only issue is the timing of it all. It hasn’t happened yet so as we speak it’s still what is essentially called a rumour, but if it does happen it leaves us having to find a replacement with only a week and a bit to go until the start if the new Premier League season.

Make no bones about it – there is still a lot of work to do in the transfer market, which is odd considering the fact that I’d have been relatively happy a couple of weeks ago had the window slammed shut and we were left with what we had after the signings of Ba, Cabaye, Marveaux and Abeid. Funny old game.

Essentially I don’t think we really have to replace Joey Barton as a central midfielder as we already have about a dozen or so of them, but we do need to replace him as a right winger. The name of Barnetta has been mentioned which would be decent but I’ll wait and see.

There is no argument about Jose though. If he goes we need to replace him, in fact we need a left-back now even with Jose Enrique still mooching around the training ground! Once again, I’ll wait and see.

What concerns me is the amount of changes that are being made. All that was needed was a few signings on top of what we had. A striker maybe, a right winger and so on. The fact that we are now having to rebuild a large chunk of our first team is kind of alarming, but not as alarming as the fact that we don’t have an awful lot of time to do it before the season starts.

Of course we’ll hear of plans to replace and things like that, but I’m not overly confident that we’ll get the players in that we need so desperately assuming the likely happens and Jose and Joey both disappear into Toon history.

Anyone else worried?

  1. The only positive I can take from enrique leaving is that we’re left with a nucleus of players who want to be at the club…get him out & let’s move on

      (Quote)

  2. Are we allowed to question just why things have gone so wrong with Enrique, or do we just ignore the root cause of it all again and get in A N other replacement (Ferguson) and things are fine?

  3. Why does the season start before the transfer window closes? That doesn’t make too much sense, does it?

  4. Enrique wants to play for Spain and he thinks his best chance of doing so is by playing for a club that can offer European football.

    Nowt wrong with that.

Do we need a conspiracy theory every time a player decides to move on in their career? It does happen quite a lot you realise? Even at “big clubs” like Manure.

*waits for replies of “we’re a big club with the best fans in the world and we deserve to be in the Champs League* Yawn!!!

  5. So does Pardew still only want one player in?
The asset stripping almost done – just Tiote, Coloccini and Guitterez to go.
The club’s lack of ambition is quoted by outgoing players. Do you think anyone cares? I thought not.
Ashley knows 52000 will be there next week.

  6. lol replacement?

and one for Carroll, Barton, Routledge too…

when will we learn we dont do replacements just players that can cover…

so much for the network of scouts scouring the lengths and breadths of Europe searching for the finest (free) talent..

I’m just hoping Vukic and fergerson have blinder seasons because I think thats our replacements

  7. Good article mate. Would be with you on the “recently positive now a tad concerned” feeling.

Enrique was actually my favourite player the past couple of years but has let the side down big time in how he is handling matters. Understandable if he wants to leave for CL football or move to Spain to have more chance of getting into the national side, but his twitter comments were a bit unnecessary.

Best we can hope for is a swap deal with the pool involving cash plus Insua maybe, especially since Arsenals interest seems to have died down. Not overly convinced by him to be honest but one things for sure, would take him in a heartbeat above Bridge or Warnock!

As far as replacing Joey goes, Barnetta has come up a few times already, personally think its lazy Sun type journalists who pick a name from a hat rather than leave the office and do some actual work.. We have been linked with this lad since 2007 on and off, until I see him holding up the black and white for the cameras I wouldnt believe a word of it.

Hate to say it but you could also see us not signing a replacement for Barton. Instead could be the case that Jonas will be played right wing and Ameobi, Abeid and Moyo will challenge to be brought through to back up Marveaux on the left. Dont be surprised either if you hear the forgotten man Ryan Taylors name being mentioned in a positive light all of a sudden in contention for the right wing spot, can just see the article now!

  8. Considering how the club is being run from the top how can any NUFC supporter have a go at the players. I read on another blog today titled “Is Pardew simply a paid lapdog”, jeez come on guys wake up, this has been apparent to all none NUFC supporters since Hughton was made to leave?

You all need to do what was done to the two American idiots at Anfield and take a more “proactive” apprach to dealing with the inept manner in which you great club is being run.

As a none NUFC supporter it really saddens me to see what is happening on tyneside, you guys have been lucky enough to have had some of the more entertaining and passionate sides in recent memory. I can only wish you well and hope their is light at the end of your very dark tunnel.

  9. apparently Enrique left due to lack of ambition. Echoed by other senior players.

And the money won’t be spent, echoed by KK.

Until MA speaks and addressed our concerns we can only guess at what the reasons are.

but on the positives. We still have cash left over from plumbing work and now we have enrique + routledge cash to invest. only two weeks left to kick-off thought..

“Just because ur [sic] told to jump, it does not necessarily mean u have to. I may choose to stand perfectly still. It’s my right…just a thought,” Barton, who has a year to run on his Toon contract, said.

Barton then returned to the social networking site to quote George Washington, the first President of the United States, in another thinly-veiled attack on the Magpies.

“Quote of the day: If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. George Washington,” he tweeted

smacks more of another player on a too good to be true contract and needs to replicate it elsewhere.

Agree alot of change and in reality too much – just hope we can get a few more faces in now , ride out the initial bedding in without fans panicking too much at the first bad result – hopefully we can get 1 over the mackems and kick on

“What’s the matter with you? Stop being so negative. Haven’t you heard the Captain telling us the ship is unsinkable. Be more positive and because its your negativity that is the real problem”

Unfortunately, when reality bites it doesn’t care how much you’ve convinced yourself that you being a supposedly ‘positive’ person makes you better than everyone else.
It does care how much you have prayed and it doesn’t care how much hope you invest.

Relying on hope, especially to the extent that we now have to, for a good outcome to the mess this club is in generally means you have forgone any form of decent planning.

No doubt we won’t get anyone in, but will probably will be told we have gone ‘really close’ with (nonexistent) bids for Messi, Tevez, Ronaldo and Cole but we couldn’t as they ‘didn’t have the right personality’ or their agents were ‘too greedy’.

Player morale is definitely shaken and Pardew has little to no time to mold a team tactically with all the changes and injuries (HBA) this summer.

as i said on the last thread:

    Whatever faults from both sides,
It makes no sense to ‘sell’ Joey for nothing.

Enrique is overated–decent in the Championship but against better Prem players and poor decision making looked awful.
The board potentially are 1xtransaction away from making us all happy—Spend £15 mill on Sturridge/ Van Annholt–wages won`t be a problem, job done.

  57. I think the club is releasing him on a free because :
    1. he’s stated he wants to stay until he can go on a free which means newcastle wasn’t going to get a fee for him anyway.
    2. big clubs will have to make big offers (in fees) for him to accept. Else, he was going to do the ‘loyal’ thing and stick around for a year.
    3. newcastle loses 2 million over the next year to him as fees while pulling hair out because of his twitterantics
    4. if he’s on a free, liverpool, arsenal, etc might just take a gamble on him.

I think the club will tell him if he digs his heels in and refuses to go, he won’t get a game. He’ll have to go. “Forced out”, like he’ll say a month from now.
That gets rid of a bad influence, a rebel and 2 million in fees. The club would take that over him sitting on the payroll and losing him for free next season.

For Enrique, here, if you want champions league football, fair one, just don’t talk **** and get your agent to sort out a deal, no one cares about someone wanting to get a better job, good luck to you pal, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
On Barton, the more that comes out his mouth I see someone who is egotistical, a disruptive influence, someone who thinks ‘their’ issue out weighs anything else to do with the club. No one is bigger than the club, so get rid I say.
Don’t freak out people, we managed without Andy Cole, we’ll manage without Barton 😀

      (Quote)

  61. I can’t see what choice the club had with Barton.
Fans say he was worth £4-£5m however that was surely never going to happen? The clubs were always going to wait and get him for nothing next season or if a bid did come in, unlikely I believe, he was always going to run his contract down so he could be in a much better negotiating position next year. Therefore the
club aren’t really losing out by putting him up for sale for nothing. They get rid of a disgruntled player and save on his alleged £65k per week.

Enrique is a different case as he’s never said he would run his contract down, to the contrary, he’s made it clear he would be looking to move on to a CL club. I’ve no doubt the move to Liverpool was engineered back in january/February.

I did say in January that I thought our new signings were good investments for the price they were. However I don’t believe they cost the amount Lamearse has indicated. But I always maintained we would be selling the 4 big earners and for me it is not strengthening our squad at all, it’s weakening it immensely.

Team spirit dragged us back up last year and it now seems in disarray. 🙄
