Barton in from the cold?

Barton back in business?
Has Joey Barton managed to patch up his differences at NUFC? Well judging by one of his latest tweets it would certainly seem to indicate that.

I think we are all pretty much up to speed with what has been going on with Joey Barton and the board, and I’m sure we’re all familiar with the twists and turns that this sorry saga has taken so I won’t bore you all by going over it again. There really is no need. Not again!

Suffice to say the last chapter ended with Alan Pardew saying that he was looking to get things sorted whilst also admitting that Joey would be unlikely to feature unless he was “on board” with what the club are trying to do.

Well in his latest tweet Barton gave a strong hint that would be involved at the weekend against Arsenal by saying this:

“Looking forward to Arsenal on Sat. I’ll be playing.”

Obviously such a statement can be construed as giving an insight into team affairs, which is something that has been a hot topic of debate recently. Jose Enrique was wrapped across the knuckles for letting a bit of team news slip before the Tottenham game last season remember? In order to clear up any confusion (and to no doubt avoid another fine) he went on to clarify his statement by saying:

“That comment was not literally to be taken on board. Know (sic) one knows the team yet.”

Whether or not Barton plays or not on Saturday is kind of irrelevant at this moment in time, but the fact that he is in with a chance is the interesting bit. To me that indicates that something has moved behind the scenes which has allowed Barton back into the first-team setup after he was banished to train with the youth team.

To me that has to be a plus point. Whether or not it alters the length of Barton’s stay on Tyneside remains to be seen, but the fact that people are willing to get on will at least mean that everyone can move on from one of the biggest talking points of our summer. Hopefully.

What do you think?

  1. if we are paying his wages i dont see any problems if he’s picked as knowing joey he will have something to prove hence we will get 100% (which he gives everytime ive watched him) commitment out of him!!! and believe me in a couple of weeks time i def hope he starts against the mackems as im afraid the new players will not be aware of just how important a game it is!!!

  2. I saw that tweet yesterday and and the arguments he was having with a couple of journos and just using those words like that is taking it massively out of context. He was winding them up saying how he could do their job, but they couldn’t do his.

  3. Could definitely be some very positive news. I’ll wait til it’s officially announced later today though

  4. ILM @3, agree, also isnt it about time some of these journos got a bit of direct feedback regarding the tosh they print.

  5. I know you can’t pland substitutions ahead of the game but start wirh Joey and Jonas on the right and left then on the hour mark replace them with Marvellous and Gosling.
    Perfect.
Easy job this football manager lark

  6. I will be amazed if Barton plays and I don’t think it’s a good idea if they still have him on the transfer list.

    1. He may get injured and we have to pay his wages until the end of the season.
    2. I don’t think it does team morale any good when you’ve got a player at war with management still in your team.
    3. He’ll sulk when Marveaux or Cabaye take the dead ball kicks. 🙂

  7. Lee Ryder reporting that Shola will sign a new deal, the bad news just keeps coming thick and fast.

  8. Bobby, I hope that spray on tan is holding up o.k because if Obertan signs today, you will have to shed your clothes and head down to Fenwicks…
I can almost hear the reversing beeper already.. 😆 😆

  9. @Aussie

    How?

    Is he a striker?

I said we won’t sign a striker as they demand big wages. Obertan is nothing more than an out of sorts winger .

I’m on a nudist beach and my **** is tanned and on display everyday but never in Fenwicks window. Sorry to disappoint you fella but bobbys crystal ball is never wrong. 😛

  10. Plus- Routers left and Obertan has replaced him.
Like for like? Who knows cos no one has seen enough of obertan in the premier. There’s a good reason for that. 🙄

  11. Bobby, I’m pretty sure you stated that we wouldn’t sign anymore players (not a just a striker). I will have to have a little look through the archives…

  12. Aussie…I think Bobby said we wouldn’t sign another striker without one leaving first 😉 …..although I think Bobby is secretly hoping he’s wrong so that he can show off his sheriffs badge 😆

  13. Technically Obertan could be used as a second striker. He scored for Man U in a friendly a few weeks back… I will take Bobby word for it though, I can’t be arsed trawling throw all the old blog entries.. 😆

  14. Woo hoo hoo hoo ! Woo hoo hoo hoo! 😛

You can take your fishing boat and spend all day trawling and you won’t find any quotes like you say.

You’ve hook, line and aussiemag yourself again. 😛

  15. @Richie

    Thankyou. That’s exactly what I said. 😉

Aussie has his deep sea net out trawling thro the posts to find a catch. All he has found tho is his tiddler. Put it away! 😛

  16. Boobs – hows your holiday going?

You really think that obertan can be worse than routs?
Im actually disappointed routs went didnt feel he had a fair crack at it.
But obertan was signed by fergie and is french which fits the bill perfectly! 😀

  17. According to Mr Tim Krul we want the pieters chap… so good to hear krul is our scout as well! 😆

  18. Tiddler??

I wasn’t sure what a tiddler was as I hadn’t heard the term before so I logged onto the Bobby Shinton Number 9 University’s web site to find out what tiddler was… All I found was a picture of Bobby 😯 Go figure…

  20. Well, let’s hope common sense has taken over and all parties are pulling in the same direction, singing from the same hymn book, on the same page, saluting the same flag and … and … well, there must be others … shagging the same lass? Maybe not.

  21. Great to see Tiote back in England. Funny that Pardew “the liar”, said that he was definitely going to be back in time for the Arsenal game. No doubt the anti Pardew brigade will overlook this until he “lies” again…

  22. hey lads, completely off topic, but I just read Graham Carr is Alan Carr’s Dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😯

…..have I been living in a cave, and did everyone else know this?

      (Quote)

  23. Ok, back on subject…

How the hell is the club still letting Barton tweet at all? Do none of them have the first clue?

The fact that they’ve not made the closure of his account a prerequisite for playing shows the lack of experience and sense in the board.

The fact that Joey keeps tweeting this stuff shows the lack of sense in Joey.

Is there any way at all we can lose the lot of them? We used to have an empire; surely there’s an island somewhere we can maroon them on?

Looking good on the transfer front, though. Pards, to his credit, did say things would go quiet once pre-season started then hot up again in the last month of the window. Seems he was right.

    Tiote back: great news.
    Obertan signing: great news
Pieters interest confirmed: great news (although Krul should know better than to talk about it)

Just that damned striker problem now. I suspect that’ll go right to midnight on the last day.
