Enrique expresses concern for Newcastle.

Jose in happier times.
Former Newcastle left-back has taken time out from his Champions League exploits at Liverpool (nudge nudge) to express concern about the club.

In a final parting shot at the board, Jose questioned the ambition of the club whilst admitting that the dressing room is nervous and that he believes that Joey Barton won’t be around for much longer. Hardly ideal preparation as we head for the Stadium of Light and it’s once seasonal full house.

Jose took to Twitter a few weeks back to criticise the club and was subsequently fined two weeks wages in response. In my opinion Jose rejoined Twitter for one reason – to put the final nail in his coffin and speed up his departure from the club – which is why he deleted his account almost immediately after his Twitter rants.Still, it’s been and gone now I guess.

So what has he been saying this time? Well take a look for yourself. I’ll use the quotes from The Guardian as I feel that they are more expansive than what you can get anywhere else.

“The dressing room at Newcastle is fantastic, it is amazing, 10 out of 10, but of course it is hard for the players when the best players leave,” the former crowd favourite said.

“It is not settled like it is here at Liverpool and I think that is why everyone is leaving Newcastle. I think Joey Barton will leave soon and Andy Carroll left in January and it is really, really hard for Alan Pardew. You want to be as high as you can in the table but maybe Newcastle don’t think the same and that is why they sell their best players and that is why everyone moves.”

So is Jose saying that Carroll wanted to go? I thought he was forced out? That last bit was sarcasm by the way. Now let me just clear something up – no club can just sell a player. For a move to complete a player must be willing to move. This is why we still have Alan Smith on our books.

However it’s not a staunch defence of the club as I do get what he is saying, or should I say that I have my own interpretation of what he says. It’s nothing new and basically it’s just about our ability to pull off deals lightning quick in terms of players out but drag our feet, nitpick, drive a hard deal etc when it comes to players in.

Take Erik Pieters for example. Here is a lad who is younger, cheaper to run (wages), and has potential to be better that Jose Enrique. At 23 he is a ten-times capped Holland international. He fits our stated transfer policy of buying young players with developing room that won’t lose money. To make it even better he would only cost a tiny tiny bit more than what we recouped for Jose Enrique.

It’s a no-brainer. It pays for itself and Mikey gets a bit of a saving on the wagebill. Win- win surely? So what happens? We end up with Ryan Taylor at left-back, again. This kind of brings me on to Jose’s next point. Have a read:

“I do worry,” said Jose. “Not because we leave, because at some clubs good players leave. But because they have not signed another left-back, nothing. I’m worried not for the club, but more for the fans because they are amazing. They are like here, it’s really similar. I have a lot of friends in the dressing room and they are a little bit nervous because they don’t know what the club is going to do.”

So it’s not just us that is kept in the dark by the sounds of it. It seems as though the players are in much the same boat as we are, which is not good news at all if you ask me.

Jose is the second player to criticise the club after leaving and has followed in the footsteps of Kevin Nolan by having a parting shot at his former club. Coincidence? I think not…

Fasten your seatbelts – the ride is going to get bumpier by the sounds of it.

  1. Dear Jose, do you think that your stalling on your contract negotiations and wishing for a move away was insome part responsible for the “nervousness” in the change room 😯 ….. What a plonker 😕

      (Quote)

  2. Jose is right.
Pardew has been given a target bit not the tools to do the job.
All the focus now appears to be on the lack of a left back. We have needed a striker since January but never mind we could have Charlton’s reserve goalkeeper coming to push Harper to be our own second choice keeper. You frankly couldn’t dream it up.

  3. Enrique shut shut up he has left the club what else would he say he does not want to say that he wanted away purely on financial grounds like many players he is always willing to point the finger at their departed club, he should remember when he points the finger there are always three pointing back to himself. He is feeding fodder to the media that want to knock Newcastyle as much as they can, he is feeding fodder to those supposed fans who want to point out all that is wrong forgetting what is right and the fact that we are still here despite the number of players who have left over the years.

Enrique I was a supporter of yours until you stalled on your contract ad caused disharmony by not saying you were leaving not putting in atransfer request in case it cost you money you have turned into the normal greedy back biting person that I thought you would never turn into and we are wrong to support his comments by making them available in this blog.

He is gone just forget him and get on with supporting those who want to play for the club.

  4. He has some valid concerns IMO. Especially the one about Pardew. This is coming from a former player who is basically saying that tweedle dee and tweedle dum are making things difficult yet again for the manager.

  5. The club can easily put a stop to this building tsunami of ***** heading their way by speaking to the fans instead of feeding the growing realization that they are having the fans over.
Pardew isnt helping by making one contradiction after another, whether he is being stabbed in the back or not or if its is just sheer incompetence by Llambias, they need to get their act together as they are a joke at present.

It was refreshing to hear Kenwright yesterday, i dont suppose it was what Everton fans wanted to hear, but they got the truth and will probably just get their collective head down and get on with the season without any drama, i would settle for the same, just tell it like it is and stop messing the fans about.

  6. I’m with u toonsy. He obviously has sone personal biases, but what is going on at our club is ridiculous.
Granted, Jose not putting in a transfer request so he could get some more money was not helpful to the club either, but nowhere near as harmful as not explaining where 35 mil goes, and why the 2 key areas of the squad since February haven’t been addressed yet when the 2nd game of the season is tomorrow

      (Quote)

  7. Robert, that would be great wouldn’t it? Ashley meeting with fans to communicate exactly what is going on with what we believe to be a big profit for the club right now. Granted, we might only believe half of what he would say, but it would be SO helpful.

      (Quote)

  8. The club will run out of excuses sooner or later. The question is do they really care?

I don’t like it when players speak out against the club, but I like it even less when they have valid points. Joey Barton, Enrique and Nolan all have valid points IMO.

      (Quote)

  9. I understand his concerns, just think that Llambias is not that stupid to tell the fans in the match programme that we will sign a left back and striker, if that’s not really the case. We may get a signing today (remember Cabaye and Ba were both signed on a friday) otherwise there’s still 12 days to go and at least we are better off than other clubs, Arsenal & Everton come to mind.

      (Quote)

  10. At those that come on and slag enrique off for making valid concerns about his former club..you all need to take a good hard look at yourself. Aussie magpie called him a plonker. Why? Because he didnt want to stay and work under this regime? I bloody wouldnt! Not all the players wanted more money. They want transparency and good leadership (especially the good players)

Mark my words if this goes on: in a years time tiote, colo and guti will be off.

And I guess they will all be plonkers too 🙄

Face up to the facts and stop being so pig minded. NUFC is not nazi Germany, you can speak out if you are unhappy. Especially after your not at the club anymore.

  11. There is nothing worse than when an Ex wife ,girlfriend, player starts stirring the ****.Jose you are a L’pool player now ,you have nothing to do with Newcastle,so shut it and show a bit of dignity.

      (Quote)

  12. yeah Mick G.

Jose should shut up and not tell the truth about a club he was at for three years, got relegated with and got promoted with and stayed up with. A player who was loved by the fans for his exploits on the field.

A player who has once again professed how amazing the fans are.

But he should shut up because you dont like what hes saying.

WE DO NOT LIVE IN A COMMUNIST STATE

  14. New quotes in the journal that just annoy the hell out of me. “we might have to do that (pay the value clubs are asking for) and we might be doing that.” No Alan, we DO have to do that, however I doubt it is happening right now. I dont want to be like Liverpool in waiting until the final moment to get someone we’ve been targeting all window long. Pay the reasonable fee, get the player!

      (Quote)

  15. Jose’s comments are shedding light on something that we’ve all been wondering since last season ended. We are finally getting some answers from someone about how things are working at the club.

It was good to see him say that the dressing room is 10 out of 10! Always look for the positive

      (Quote)

  16. I must admit, the negativity on this blog has been amazing the last week or so. We got a decent draw against Arsenal in our first game and we’ve got 12 days left in the transfer window. Yes Enrique has some valid points, but let’s say some positive things! Have a little faith lads…it won’t hurt.

  17. Doitforsirbobby.I’m not saying it isn’t true what he says, but the timing is wrong.I don’t know if you realise it but there is a bit of a big match tomorrow, and the last thing we need is more unrest.Calling me an idiot may well be right who knows? but the “WE DO NOT LIVE IN A COMMUNIST STATE” was slightly over the top don’t you think?

  18. Exactly what I’m looking for Andrew. We’ve got a dressing room that Enrique rates 10 out of 10. People were wondering what the atmosphere may be like, there’s your answer.

  19. It`s the consistent lies that gets to me. Week after week spin and lies, I might not agree but I could come to terms with them if they were like Kenwright at Everton. They say that they have put bids in for this player and another and then the club in question refutes these claims. Keep your gob shut Pardew and announce something when you have signed someone. You are an embarrassment to the club with your constant re evaluations after your original statements proved untrue. If I had a wish it would certainly be that these three clowns would get sick of playing their little games and move out to a club who deserves them like Spurs.

      (Quote)

  20. Now I wonder what our thoughts would be on this subject if we actually did bring in a player today?

Who knows? I doubt it will happen

      (Quote)

  21. Blaydonson, I dislike Llambias as much as you do. I simply feel that we will get the left back and striker in, before the window closes. Let’s get angry if that does not happen, but otherwise save the anger and let’s suppport the team, who have a HUGE game tomorrow.

      (Quote)

  22. Jose makes some valid points though he seems to have left out something, the “best players” who were sold, all left because they wanted to so you can’t use it as an excuse for leaving….**** off and take Ashley and Llamsarse with you 👿

      (Quote)

  23. Freddie, it’s not ideal that Pardew has said things like, we will have a left back before the Sunderland game. Having said that, he did get the international midfielder right weeks before we signed Cabaye, whilst how many times have we not said something, expecting it to happen, only to be wrong ourselves. Pardew is only doing his job, Llambias on the other hand is messing around. Either way, I expect the left back to come in, along with the striker before the window closes. Let’s wait and see though, before getting angry.

      (Quote)

  24. Jose probaly has some valid points from his point of view , but he should keep them to himself. He aint a newcastle player anymore so he shouldnt really be talking about us. I honestly dont think he moved for money and just career progression ( tho I think liverpool aint going anywhere ) and good luck to the lad in his future endevours.

      (Quote)

  25. Losing Carroll was hard. Losing Jose wasn’t. We have sold better players at this club long before Ashley bought us and I am not sure what Jose and Nolan’s points are? They tell us what exactly? The only harmful thing the board did was to sell Caroll. Nolan wasn’t needed and Jose didn’t want to sign. So what did they do that was wrong? Peed people around with contracts? Get a furking grip.

      (Quote)

  26. Some very valid points but totally not arsed about hearing them from someone who switched off half way through the season and cost us a nailed on top half finish with his shitty attitude and used digs at the club to negotiate his departure.

The club are run by proven liars and amateurish charlatans who shouldnt be within 500 miles of SJP we know that already so cheers jose for bringing that to our collective attention but you got your move now **** off, Weve got a fairly important match to prepare for… 🙄 👿

      (Quote)

  29. JJ, and if he voiced concerns that you actually disagreed with, what would your stand point be??

I love the fact that some fans back his words because they slag off Ashley and Co and it fits into their view of things… So if Jose mouthed off and said “Liverpool fans are much better than Newcastle fans” What would your reply be?

      (Quote)

  30. Maybe he should be more concerned about Liverpool and where they’re going this season, considering that anywhere other than CL qualification will see them surely go on a downward spiral themselves.

I understand his points and they are valid ones, obviously we’re all concerned as well but we can’t do anything about it can we? Jose could have sucked it up and signed a new contract, if he were that worried about the club. But he didn’t and he’s gone off to greener pastures, so obviously he doesn’t care as much about the club as he tries to make it out that he does.

This from a fellow who had a horrendous first season, did a whole lot of badge kissing and public quotes that he loved the club and he loved the city and would never leave. Hypocrite.

Good riddance, not fit to clean Joey’s boots.

  32. A lot of negativity around at the mo isn’t there? I understand fans concerns but we are better than other teams around us. I.E west brom, blackburn, QPR, swansea etc. Our group of players need to settle together and when that happens we will have a good group on our hands.

I think we may be best playing 4-5-1 tomorrow with Obertan playing on the wing so that Joey is more infield as that is where he drifts too.

Cabaye should take the free kicks as he is a specialist at them

How many more times man!?! What is the actual point of filling yourself up with so much hope? I am going to be much less gutted than you when we start the season with the same squad and a couple of 1 million pound last minute additions who will never get a game (if we’re lucky)…and why?

Because I have already accepted it’s going to happen! Get Real!

Also, seen a couple of comments on here mentioning there’s too much negativity….well considering this site gets 1000’s of hits per day from different people, I would say that’s reflective of the fanbase as a whole…rather than just outspoken individuals. There’s a jolly good reason for it and if you want to be in the minority in thinking that it’s all going to be ok and Ashley is keeping his hand close to his chest ready to make a late play, then don’t come crying when it all turns to **** in front of your eyes.

12 days left…pah…..we have had since f*cking January to sort a striker. It’s a tale of f*cking woe.

But it’s just not going too, Pards giving us false hope again.

      (Quote)

  48. Wow just read the whole of the last article, I thought we had been relegated 😯 , one minute Pards is doing a decent job the next its all doom. Crowds are down thru various reasons, nowt to get too concerned over..We have under 2 weeks to secure 2 players and going off Pards latest comments regarding “2 player we have in the building suggests Barton may be going too”??, OR more likely he’s referring to the two french trialists we have?

Its not D Day on Sat, Sunderland will expect to win at home, its our 2nd game of a new season and a derby! lets see what happen in the next two weeks b4 we totally implode with negativity..

Pards “The left-back situation is a week down the line and the plan we had went straight into action.

“Of course everybody knows we need a left-back and it is being made difficult not by us but by other clubs.

“We have to get over that. We have to make sure we reach an agreement with the other club which is right for them and right for us.”

Whether that’s relating to Pieters or Cissokho is not clear. Pardew went on talk about the recruitment process in general:

“I can only reassure people that not only have we tried to secure players but we are trying to secure two players we have in the building.

“That process is very, very important as well. We are trying to make sure this club going forward is stronger than it was last year.

“As it stands, when we started the season, I would say we are not at that position yet, but hopefully we will be.

“I don’t think I need to nudge Mike Ashley. I think he is very much aware of that. I don’t think I need to nudge him any more – I have nudged him enough!

“It is like where Arsenal are as well and a number of other clubs – like Spurs – you have to get the deal which is right for the football club.”

Asked about whether or not we might actually have to cough up some more money to land some of these players we’re after, Pardew said:

“We might have to do that and we might be at the stage where we are doing that.

“So that question might be talking out of turn there. I have sat in another press conference as I have done quite often here with nobody across the line, but at some point we will.”

I’ll rather live with hope than be negative and criticise everything the club does, just because its not what I would have done. For those saying I need to get a grip, we are better off than so many clubs in this division. Yes Ashley and Llambias have screwed us over but I love the club and I’ll support the club. We have players like Coloccini, Krul, Cabaye, Jonas, Vuckic, Tiote, Obertan and others, who are good players and will help this club stay in the division and push for a top half finish. I’d rather be in our shoes, than that of QPR (got hammered last week), Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn (have fantastic owners 🙄 ), Wigan and some others too.

Without the paying custom, a business is fecked. The club is fecked. We love the club as much as you or anyone but refuse to blindly hand over our hard earned cash when we don’t see the club showing ambition.

Now that’s maybe not the replacement most of us wanted but he’s a replacement never the less, Nolan= Cabaye and Routledge=Obertan. Obviously Jose still needs replacing and imho we now need 2 left backs,a CB to take Sol’s place and still a striker because what we have aren’t good enough and that would have been the case if Judas was still here and Ba wasn’t 😉
