Game on! Sunderland v Newcastle.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.
The natives plie in at Sunderland.
Well it’s here. Earlier than expect but nonetheless it’s here all the same.

A very early 12pm kick-off will signal yet another instalment of the big one round these parts. The Tyne-Wear derby is upon us once again.

Of course much of the pressure to get a result is on Sunderland. In their own words they are “light years” ahead of us, much like they were last season when they gained just a solitary point from the two meetings between the two sides. Froth and foam will be in copious supply at the Stadium of Light this afternoon as the locals desperately scrabble for some kind of payback for the embarrassment and lessons dished out by the boys in black and white last season.

Of course Newcastle aren’t without pressure of their own. I have a feeling that a negative result will see tensions boil over as a result of what has been a frustrating and tense transfer window thus far. A loss at Sunderland will give some the excuse they have been waiting for to let rip and we could see some real signs of unrest starting to come to the surface more than what they already are.

It’s finely poised if you ask me. The bookies can’t separate the two sides and you can get much the same price for a Sunderland win, Newcastle win, or a draw. Neither side look to be prolific in front of goal and both sides have new players that are still adjusting to life at their new club. Let’s hope our boys can adjust quicker than those lot. Keep it tight for half hour, shut their gurning rabble of a fanbase up, and take it from there.

It will be a full house, but remember they only come to see United!

In terms of build up you can read my match preview ramblings where I take a stab at selecting the team and formation, highlight any fitness and injury concerns aswell as pick out some handy stats about the match in general and about both teams. You can have a read of that by clicking here.

Have a look below for team news. If the substitutes aren’t named just bear with us as sometimes it can take a bit longer to track them down. They matchday 18 will be there for both sides as son as I can get my paws on it.

In terms of streams there are plenty knocking about by the looks of it so I’m quite optimistic about being able to view the match online. In fact a quick look at MyP2P website shows that there are plenty to pick and choose from. Combine that with other sites and I’d say we’ll be fine for viewing it. I’d still rather be at the game though…

That is just about it really. Let’s hope we can come away from the Village of the Damned with at least a point to show for our efforts. Taking a point off them in their own back yard would easily hand us the early season bragging right ahead of the reprisal at St James’ Park early next year. Nothing less than 100% effort, application and dedication will do!

Howay the lads!

Cabaye made more tackle than anyone in the first half, was the only player trying to get up in support of Shola, had our best effort on goal with a great shot.

Ran his legs off and was the only player not playing “hoof the ball away” until we scored.

What game were you watching fella? 🙄

  2. ……and Cabaye made more tackles than any other player in the prem last week, did he not?

  3. Toonpipes @ 447 again I will ask WHO isn’t supporting the team. we can all huff and puff but as I have said to you that doesn’t stop them from supporting the team.

  4. Get in!!! A great start to a Saturday and the rest of the day left to celebrate.

Watching the Mackems also shows that spending money doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting quality. Having said that I’ve been amazed that Raylor hasn’t been more exposed at left back the last two games (I was even more surprised to finally seem him deliver a good set piece).

Anyway 4 pts from our first two games isn’t bad. The lads seem to be pushing in the right direction despite the best efforts of the board.

  5. FSOTC…. I used to have a German Shepherd that did that, just mention mackem and the teeth would be bared and hackles up

  6. Amazing result, I thought it was pretty even, but I would say Larson should have walked in the first half and we should’ve had a penalty.

Wes Brown could also have seen red as well as cattermole. Honestly proud of the boys today and I’m glad that the blatant hand ball off the line by Larson didn’t cost us the game.

  7. Emmanuel frimpong as well? Shame, he was class on football manager, always used to pick him up when Arsenal released him, he was key in taking Gateshead to the PL

  8. Big Dave, nows not the time, lets enjoy the win, but the sheer scale of the negativity + pressure being heaped on the club by all of the moaning and groaning is going to hurt the team rather than assist. Pished that Shola didnt get a goal put in the fantasy purely for this game! HWTL

  9. sjp14nufc I think the reason why Raylor isn’t more exposed is because he has a tireless worker playing infront of him, that comes back just as quick as he will go forward 😉

  10. for god sake give cabaye a bloody chance, two games on top of a ***** pre-season,dont know what some fans expect imo he got stuck in and dont think thats where he will play that role when bennys fit, jonas for me graffted his socks off, lets not forget “we” where the away team for gods sake 😕

  11. I thought Cabaye was quality, ran so much. Lots of tackles and was up with Shola, Obertan good too.

  12. I thought Cabaye played well. Got stuck in and what you have to remember is, this is a derby. Its not a normal game. Didn’t have time on the ball, but he was all over the pitch and he had a cracking shot on goal.

    same here 😆

well done to all newcastles players today , how embarrasing for sunderland!! ryan taylor has done a fantastic job at left back 4 us , good on ya mate!!!

  14. You’re right Big Dave, Jonas was immense today. Still can’t believe Cattermole wasn’t sent off for trying to break his leg. The ref really did have a shocker.

  15. Havent seen todays game but from the Arsenal game I saw enough from Cabaye to be very confident when he settles into the team and gets use to the pace of the league will be a very important player.

  16. So, despite not scoring, Shola has destroyed Sunderland again?

Can we hit him over the head every week and tell him it’s a derby game?

      (Quote)

  17. FSOTC – I seriously only thought that type of goal only happend on fifa 😆 bad luck for arsenal as liverpool aint better.

  18. Must admit I wasn’t overly impressed by Obertan. He can cross, which is good. Otherwise though he seemed very quiet, and he was disappointing on the break, and the game passed him by in the middle really. Maybe put Marveux on the right? He does like to cut in…or Gosling perhaps? I do like selection headaches 😀

  19. TOONPIPES we dont need you or anyone else to tell us to get behind the team now or any other time .
So stop your moaning and groaning and having your wee digs

  20. off topic but im almost feel sorry for arsenal…2 games 2 red 1 own goal that should have been offside anyway

      (Quote)

  21. Newkie – Obertan didnt have much to work with on the break, seeing as he was always the only one to run. Also sunderland did put on heavy pressure and it was derby day and all. But agreed he was quiet and didnt have the best of games.

  22. Ice I think there will be 😉 and you mate a good point not only have we 4 points but they were against the **** and away to the Makems 😀

  23. Oh well, in about 8 minutes, we will be knocked down to second in the table thanks to Liverpool of all teams.

    Ugh

  24. Fantastic result and this with a team still very new playing together. Over the moon. Everyone did us proud. Funniest comment re Shola beating Ferdinand and Sunderland defence for pace – couldnt stop laughing. Ice agree with your comment re anyone criticising Cabaye – jesus give the lad a chance. Brilliant result well done Pardew and the lads

  25. Ice I bet Toonsy is beavering away on his new Laptop to try to wreck the 500 😆 but he wont do it and will fail like he did the last time 😉

  26. APP-Yeah don’t get me wrong, he didn’t have a horrible game, but I remember one break where it came down to him against Brown and he just slowed down and waited for support, we got some men up but they brought up loads more and nothing happened from it. You’d expect to see a winger try and beat his man in that position but he didn’t seem fussed. I dunno, maybe its a confidence thing, hopefully he’ll get better as the team blends.

  27. from sky sports

Man of the Match: Jonas Gutierrez – outstanding game from Argentine who worked his socks off as well as providing a constant threat. 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 oooops sorry 😆

      (Quote)

  28. Newkie – agreed. I would’ve like to see him to sprint at goal and take on the defender, but hey. We’re still trying to gel and all 😉

      (Quote)

  29. Army next time he plays watch him properly 😉 I know he is a winger but he cant attack and leave Raylor exposed the way he could attack with Jose behind him, the man never stops and has an engine on him like a Hummer

      (Quote)

  30. Jenkinson is hobbling now. Arsenal have made three subs and could be down to nine shortly.

    😯

    Crisis club.

And they face man utd next match without 3 suspended players, plus a CB.

i had the worst stream ever and only seen about ten mins of the match first half so didnt see much mate 😆

  32. Krul-9 made no mistakes, clean sheet
Simmo- 7 needs to pass/cross better
Saylor- 8 sessenon gave him fits but clean sheet
    Colo- 9 inspired, should’ve scored
Raylor- 8 looks a bit uncomfortable, good goal
Obertan- 4 was involved maybe a total of 8 minutes in the match. Doesn’t work hard enough and doesn’t get involved.
Barton- 6 passing was off again
    Tiote- 6 doesn’t look fit
Cabaye- 7 was all over the pitch getting stuck in
Jonas- 9 did the dirty work helping out raylor and won the free kick with our only spell of pressure.
Shola- 6 no shots, needed to hold the ball up better
Gosling did more in his short spell than obertan did the whole time he was out there. The lad has skill but he needs to find his place in the squad. Should be a sub for now.
    MOTM- Jonas, gutsy performance

  34. Papiss Demba Cisse at Freiburg scored again just now.

Eff, man, it would be fine to clutch at the pennies if the point was to right the club financially AND splash out once in a while for a big player. We could afford this guy. Not proven in England, but he’s scoring heaps in Germany.
