Pieters agent “pretty sure” on Newcastle deal.

Pieters Toon move pending?
The Joey Barton saga will continue to dominate headlines until there is a conclusion in sight. Unfortunately that conclusion is unlikely to mirror what a lot of fans want and means that we are probably going to be without Barton in the very near future.

As I said earlier, fair play to him for getting the deal he wants. I wish him all the best and will enjoy watching him and keeping up with him on Twitter, if he keeps it open of course.

However there is a real risk that the continuing tittle-tattle over Joey Barton will start to overshadow things. Not only do we have a game tonight, but we also have a very real need to get new players into this club before the transfer window shuts in just under a weeks time.

The focus had been firmly on signings, but the whole Barton saga has allowed to heat to be directed from that situation which is frightening in my opinion. We should be keeping up the heat and not diffusing it as I’m not wholly confident that we’ll see more players in at Newcastle. Put simply, Newcastle don’t do late transfers in…

Fortunately though one person who does have confidence that a deal involving a player arriving at St James’ Park will be concluded is Piet van der Pol. No he isn’t the Dutch Pol Pot, but he is the agent of Toon target Erik Pieters.

“Newcastle’s interest is very serious and Erik finds the club a real challenge,” Pol told the Dutch press. “I don’t know the exact numbers of Newcastle’s offer, but I’m pretty sure that the transfer will go ahead.”

So I’m assuming that a deal is near? It seems odd that a agent would be so vocal about a move if there is nothing there to back it up although of course one could argue that an agent should be doing exactly that although an apparent increased bid from Newcastle may have greased the wheels a bit more? Who knows?

One thing is clear, and that is that we need a left-back. Forget Barton, forget Scunthorpe, forget everything. We need these players in before the close of play next week as they will have a much greater bearing on our season than Joey Barton or the match tonight. We actually need a striker aswell, and that is just as a minimum, but I’ll go into that a bit more later on this afternoon hopefully.

For now, at least, it looks as though we’ll have one player in, hopefully.

  1. The news has just broken on ESPN.co.uk (and soon to be on Soccernet), typically this signals an imminent move so I wouldn’t be surprised if it went through in the next 72 hours.

You have to say that between Cissokho (8m) and Pieters (6m) it was always going to be the “bargain buy” of the two. PSV have been having severe financial problems lately, and they desperately need the cash so that’s why the so called “brinksmanship” is happening.

Even if he comes in today I doubt he’ll be put straight in with Fulham so that’s why they’re taking their time.

  2. Not trying to be a negative Nancy but there seems to be a discrepancy on who Pieter’s agent really is?
I asked MsiDouglas if it was Hakim Slimani or Piet van der Pol?
He said that NUFC is dealing with Hakim Slimani… I’ve a bad feeling about this… anyone remember Barry McIntosh and Tranquillo Barnetta saga? 😉

  3. According to various reports this morning, QPR have offered Barton a THREE YEAR deal on £60k pw—if that`s true then we really have shot ourselves in the foot and Barton and his agent also screwed up big time—-Top 6 side ??
Pootle, gotcha again 😆 I`m seriously getting worried about your health and state of mind so I promise to stop winding you up, I`d never forgive myself if you were institutionalised 😥

  4. I’d be so happy to see this one happen, and soon. Admittedly it would leave the club with the biggest challenge – a striker – but all focus could go on that, and perhaps people could start to believe that efforts and money are at an appropriate level.

What I want to know is: if we do get both, will people be happy? I get the impression on here that we’re down to two or three who will still just hate everything about the way the club is run no matter what, but a growing majority will be happy if we get our two players.

I certainly will be. In fact, knowing that strikers tend to be fickle, egotistical, inconsistent, believe-their-own-hype, gold-digging arseholes, I’ll be pretty impressed if we get anyone decent at all.

Well maybe they’re from the both sporting agency or he has 2 agents.

  8. Something off-topic I’d like opinions on, because perhaps I’m seeing what I want to see…

Anyone else watch the Liverpool-Exeter game? See Carroll after he scored? Not even a smile. Joyless. Looked like he just didn’t want to be there. I know it was a nothing goal in a nothing game, but even so – he NEVER looked like that after scoring in black and white.

I think he’s miserable there. Which goes some way to explaining his massive tally of four goals since January.

  9. saw judas had scored but not the celebration …… not interested in the man unless he says he wants to come back of course and goes on strike lol

  10. No bid will be made by the Toon until the final day of the window and it will be a low one in order to challenge PSV resolve.

There’s a good chance the player and Agent are using the Toon to gain interest from other clubs.

So Thad, you say within 72 hours, I say it either won’t materialise or they’ll try and get him on the final day.

In my opinion, I read the regime better than you.

**** in Fenwicks window time 😆

  12. ICE – I seriously think he’d bite your hand off if you offered him a way back. He looked utterly miserable. See if you can find it online.

Not that it’ll happen, but I have to admit to a bit of schadenfreud on it!

    (Is that spelled correctly?) 😀

  13. I cannot believe how terrible these lot are that a running (or ruining) our club! Pardew is the reluctant scapegoat, reluctant and not the injured party as he is fully aware how Ashley is determined to get back all his money and then make a profit when he DOES eventually sell on.
This window has been decent as far as our midfield targets went- we lost a good midfielder, we have now lost another good midfielder but where is the striker….. Pardew stated we were ahead of the rest and the players would be here in time for the preseason , then it was they would be in for the first match, then we lost our first two targets, now its the other club (reporting us for tapping up) who are moving goal posts, next it will be the wives did not want to move to the North East and bang we into September! Well we tried but we will be ready in January- sound familiar!

  16. Troy – good on yer for putting your **** on the line (well, window ledge)

    I think you’re wrong, but I think I was equally adamant that Carroll wouldn’t leave, so… 😳

    I think:

    – LB in by Monday
    – Striker in last minute, but not one we recognise.

Let’s not forget that getting Joey’s wages off the bill helps with all this; I think they will factor that in when negotiating.

  19. Big Dave – is that right? Are they starting to turn on him?

I wonder if a crafty bid of £10m would get him back?

Stupid git. Took the one thing he didn’t need – more money – over everything he did: his dream job, which he already had. Fekking idiot, and that **** Nolan helped talk him into it.

Anyway, perhaps it was just a one-off and he’s fine. But it looked quite the opposite.

    Cracking strike, mind.

  20. Pieters agent is playing a blinder over this one.
That’s why I really don’t think it will go through.

They know how desperate we are for a LB and his agent will play on that to bargain a high wage for his player.

Ashley won’t have any of it.

Just wait til it all predictably falls flat and Pards starts bigging up Ferguson!

Nowt as sure as the Mike, Derek and Patsy show! Starring at a football ground near you! 😕 😆

Well Troy, whether they like your style or not, i think most of them have to admit your predictions have been generally nearer the mark than theirs.

However if your **** is going on display in Fenwicks window in the future please don’t do it at Christmas because I sometimes take the bairn in to see the window at Christmas. No child deserves such a loss of innocence.

  26. @JJ

It’s a wonder, with your journalistic connections, you didn’t try and claim Shola got the final touch. 😆

Thad has got 71 hours left for Pieters to sign or it’s Fenwicks window time.

Not a chance that a bid will go in until the last day if any at all.

He won’t agree terms anyway. 😕

As for my other prediction from weeks ago. The regime know fine well they will stick with Best, Ba, HBA and Shola up front.
If anything dramatic happens it will be Best sold and Loverman stepping up the chain ladder.

The reality train is gathering speed and only 7 days left before it reaches it’s final stop.
All those on board will be awarded the Reality Commendation and will go on to live normal lives with a balanced outlook.

The Dream Bus also has 7 days to travel and those on board will be all given lilac shellsuits presented by Starsust Icke. 😆

Ooh I can see it now as the lilac suit brigade realise they jumped on board the wrong mode of transport. Woo hoo hoo hoo 😆
