The final countdown

Tick tock, tick tock.....
With just over two days left in the transfer market for 2011, Newcastle United have either got something hidden up their sleeve or are just going to let the clock tick down and subsequently feel the wrath of supporters for not getting in any additions.

When it comes to the final day of the transfer window, we all know how it goes. The overhyped media frenzy and sometimes painful to watch Sky Sports News are always the ones to shout and scream at us with even the slightest snippet of information however dull it may be. Then as we all sit and stare at the obnoxious Jim White (Mr Skyports!) and we twiddle our thumbs and ponder whether Newcastle United are going to do any last minute business due to their lack of urgency over the last few months.

The movement between Sky Sports News and reporter in the North East David Craig is like watching Punch and Judy – It’s crude and sometimes unbearable to listen to. We get the ‘Breaking News’ that a player is supposedly leaving, then we get the, we have bid for John Doe and then immediately jump to the internet to scrape at all websites possible for a nibble of information no matter how credible it may be.

‘I wonder if this year will be any different from last?’ every Newcastle fan will be asking themselves. Well….

Could it be? We have heard rumbles that our much needed left back will be in before then and that a search for our 43rd choice striker is ongoing.

If Newcastle do complete signings before 11pm on Wednesday then personally I would be happy and wouldn’t find the need to sit and scrutinize the Sky Sports circus and watch it unfold before me. However, I do have that nagging feeling in the back of my head that is telling me. ‘signings before Wednesday, you gullible idiot.’

The process of signing player’s cant be easy, due to the involvement of agents and the like. Then we have personal terms, medicals. Can they agree? Are they fit?

Come 11pm on the 31st of August I would be happy if we had our so called left back replacement and striker, but the likeliness of me chewing my fingers to the bone are high and the slightest sniff of any other club coming in for our leftover quality players might just make our owner and cronies buckle under pressure, sell for a scandalous amount of money and leave us with half an hour left for them to “try their best” to replace them.

I hope this will not be the case!

Thanks to ethi-toon for sending this in. I’m sure we’re all hopeful of much the same!

  1. tHAT WILL BE THAE SAME MEDIA THAT HAD GERVINHO SIGNING FOR NUFC AND THE SAME MEDIA THAT INSISTS MIKE ASHLEY HAS THE BEST INTERESTS OF NUFC AT HEART. SOUND FINANCIAL FOOTING AN ALL THAT ****. IF AN ACCEPTABLE OFFER FOR ANY OF NEWCASTLE UNITEDS “ASSETS” COMES IN HE WILL ACCEPT IT FACT… I HAVE BACKED UP MY JUDGMENT BASED OIN THE HISTORY OF MIKE ASHLEYS PERFORMANCE AS OWNER SINCE HE BOUGHT THE CLUB. ALL THE EVIDENCE IS THERE IN BLACK AND WHITE.

JJ – I texted him at the match to see if I could spot him in the crowd. I texted him again last night. Both times no reply. That’s not like owld lightning fingers, twinkle thumbs. Weird. Hope he’s not walked in front of a bus, or thrown himself under a train.”

Wouldn’t stress Blackley, guys got more personalities/ I mean lives than most cats… 😉 😆

  6. its not a case of growing up its a case of everyone has an opinion and you think its ok to degenerate that opinion by trying to prove your own is a superioir opinion. say what you think about a subject fine… don’t try to tell me what to think or say and i’ll show you the same respect.

#nufc Just posted latest on Santon and rest of transfer stuff. NUFC understood to be working on a number of deals at the moment.

Carlton Cole, Oliver Bernard, Danny Giuthrie contract extension 😆 😆

  22. Mark, mi mate was at the game yesterday, in the posh bit, and he was actually sat next to Bernard. He said he overheard him say to his mate that Pieters was a done deal at 7.6m. He probably knows as much as us like. I joked he’d probably just had a medical! I liked Bernard when we had him. Retired at 27!!!

      (Quote)

  23. I use to love Bernard, shame Arsenal and money went to his head. I’d be well chuffed if Santon, Pieters and a forward signed. hats off to Ashley and CO if it happened.

    fingers crossed.

  24. Lee Ryder is a tool,**** Journalist working for a **** Newspaper, when he asks proper questions of this regime instead of crawling up their fat arses and dodging the issues I might change my mind,im not going to hold my breath waiting though 😥 😥 😥

  25. At the moment I’d actually take two fullbacks over a striker, because there is no striker out there that sticks out as a great buy.

Pieters at LB and Santon at RB would complete an excellent backline on paper at least. And Pieters could play in the centre if needed.

  26. Mark, I think old Fatty’s reputation would see a huge rise if that came off. Trouble is, too many fans are from the ‘loads bitten, more shy’ school of pessimism, I know I am. Be great though to see something finally coming together. Here’s hoping……

      (Quote)

  27. Ah, I hope we don’t get Santon for left back. He’s not supposed to be as good there. I don’t see us getting both Pieters and Santon, not being cynical, just don’t see it happening realistically.

      (Quote)

  28. I never understood why wegot rid of Hughes to fulham we could use him right now

Also I think santon will be a mistake will be the only Italian in the squad so will take more than the usual time to adapt.

I have a sneaky suspicion that we may land benayoun as replacement for Barton and we could get two defenders in but NO STRIKER STILL

      (Quote)

  29. Santon is a great prospect for the future. Not sure he will be ready for the PL straight away but then again I don’t know a great deal about him.

Know he’s a right back who gets played out of position as Maicon is class.

Sports Interactive are also reducing all his stats as we speak because of these rumours 😀

      (Quote)

  30. CAbaye 4.5 million , obertan 3 million , santon 5 million = 12.5 million!!!! Spend another 8m on a striker and i will be satisfied !!! Keep the change ashley – 30 million!!

      (Quote)

  31. Any word on that frenc full back? I assume its going to 1 out of Santon , Pieters or Cisshko. Reading we are been linked in benayoun.

I was out with two girls, Stella And Peroni.

The clock ran out for Thad on Sunday midday. He says he’s not fussed but he’s gutted. 😛

My other prediction, that crowds would drop below 40k within a season or so are bang on track. I was also told I was talking rubbish about that by many.

We are not immune and if this regime does not invest by Wednesday then my prediction will be ahead of schedule.

Many thanks go to Grandma Baba Vanga for providing the predictions. 😛
