Captain Colo backs attackers

Captain Colo rallies the troops.
The pretty blatant lack of attacking threat from Newcastle has been highlighted numerous times already so far this season.

We may be unbeaten in four games but few can deny that we’ve not been at our sparkling best when it comes to attacking the opposition goal. Personally I feel that it’s just a matter of time before things start to click and we start to see a more creative side, although I do understand those who are erring on the side of caution and have real concerns about current lack of potency in front of goal.

Captain Coloccini is not one that you could put in the latter group however as today he has come out and said that he believes that we’ll start to see more attacking over Newcastle United over the next few games.

Maybe he is just doing a Captain’s job by trying to inspire a bit of confidence? I mean he is hardly going to come out and say that all of our attackers are awful is he? Let’s take a look at what he told the Northern Echo.

“I do not have any worries about our attacking,” said Colo. “I know we have a side that is capable of creating chances and scoring goals and you will see that in the next few games.”

“It was difficult on Monday because I thought QPR played a very good game and prevented us from creating too many chances. They pressured the ball very well.”

“But I don’t think there is any issues in terms of us creating things – we scored three goals in the two games before that. We have very good creative players. We have strong attackers and strong midfielders – I really don’t think there will be a problem in terms of scoring goals.”

It seems as though Colo doesn’t share the same concerns that some fans have. Perhaps he knows something we don’t? Maybe he has seen enough in training to come to that conclusion?

Whilst I don’t think we are playing the best, most fluent football at the moment, I do think it’s going to improve over time. In my opinion we are paying the price for using a sledgehammer to tinker with the team over the summer.

In reality all that was needed was a tweak in a few areas, but now we have a virtually all new first team, and even if only some of the players are new they’ll still need to learn how the rest of the team plays, and, of course, vice-versa.

Maybe Colo knows better? Maybe these are just Captain’s words?

What do you think?

  1. No. I missed your views on Cabaye. I don’t know whether you can blame Cabaye for Tiote’s travails, but he does leave him to shoulder a lot of the burden and rarely seems to be on hand when Tiote turns into trouble.

  2. How many goals has cap’n tugboat scored for WHam so far this season?
I heard he was a prolific attacking midfielder of prem class, or maybe not 😕
Maybe he just needs a couple matches to gel with his new team. Surely not.

  3. Troy – Of course.I just find it amusing how nearly everyone, including the local press by the way, have said that Cabaye is doing ok (just ok, nothing more) whilst you blame him for everything. It’s his fault the attacks aren’t working out, it’s his fault we aren’t dominating games, it’s his fault others are playing shoite.

Do you not see that you are coming across as having a blind hatred of the guy?

Quite frankly you are being a ridiculous **** about this to try and justify a point you pathetic sad little ******. The one person backing you up is you;re brother FFS

  4. Troy. When I posted @ 78 I had not read the recent previous posts. We seem to be seeing the exact same thing. Seems like this Cabaye bashing is not very popular on here, however. Better not knock the new gallic idol. We’ll have to keep wa heeds doon and wait! Same thing happened with Hugo Viana.

  5. If anyone cares to read my views on Cabaye then they are on today’s previous thread.

You will then realise that at no time have I wrote him off. Far from it in fact. Of all the new signings I believe he has the best chance of being a success.

My point only is that at this moment in time he seems to go hiding for large parts of the game. I’m only judging him from what I’ve seen so far and it coincides with the loss of form of Tiote .

Cabaye looks tidy and plays the odd good pass but that sums up how he’s played so far.

He obviously needs time to settle in and I will get that time from me.

Im defending Tiote more than attacking Cabaye.

I wish some people would take time to read all posts I’ve made throughout the day instead of jumping in half way thro with both feet and getting the wrong end of the stick.

    @toonsy
I agree about the other players around him as well. Now that’s another story because I genuinely think all the new signings so far have been poor.

They are my views. Don’t like them.? Doesn’t mean they are wrong. 😉

  6. Toonsy – I missed the first 25 minutes of the QPR game because of a power cut. I saw Cabaye touch the ball about six times in the rest of the game. One was a decent ball down the line which got us a throw in, and another was a dreadful pass that nearly cost us. I saw Tiote in the thick of everything, and some people are now calling for him to be dropped. That’s when I posted a comment.

    “Seems like this Cabaye bashing”

And 4 (yes FOUR…) games into a new season, team, league, country, that is exactly what it is.

    It’s fucking staggeringly pathetic.

  9. I foolishly thought some fans had learned to give players time after the four most yearned after players (Nolan, Barton, Enrique who have gone and Colo who is still here) all took time to settle.

    Silly me. Apparently not.

In the theme of Fawlty Towers and Basil Fawlty.

I mentioned Cabaye and the midfield major. But I think I got away with it.

Don’t mention the midfield Fawlty ! Bloody Cabaye!! Cabaye!! Cabaye!!!
    Bloody awful !!!

Ooooops! Mentioned it again major !! Just the once tho. Bloody Cabaye, I mean Toonsy missed it!

  11. “Cabaye bashing” is how you’re making it out, not me. I see it as telling it how it is. Its like you’re not allowed to say what you see. Yes, it is four games, and I’m not saying any different. He reminds me of Viana because he has no pace and the game passes him by. Why is it okay to knock Tiote four games into the season. My post was more a defence of Tiote more than an attack on Cabaye. I would love to see the kid do great and show us things that he has shown no signs of showing so far. After four games I’m not writing him off.

  12. Man we seem to be having a real run of bad luck at the toon…HBA injured, now perhaps Santon out for a while.
Our fans also need to give the new players a chance to bed in, and get used to the pace of the English league before they get slagged off so much..

By the way, Tiote has NEVER had a defense splitting pass imo, he is the man who breaks up the opponents attacking play, and distributes the ball, but playing killer balls through to the strikers…that’s not part of his game, as he is invariably too far away from the strikers…

Shola and Raylor will always get slagged off, but perhaps it’s cos they just aint good enough…easy really…

  13. I see that Sittu or whatever his name is hasn’t been given clearance to sign to sign for Swansea for whatever reason? Wonder what the craic is with that??

You have to do whats right for you in life.

If you can read my posts on Cabaye which I’ve printed all day and you come to the conclusion I’ve wrote him off then I find it astonishing.

If I want to have a go and give Cabaye a good bashing after 4 games then that should not matter either.

I’m not calling anyone a ridiculous **** and sad little ******. I wouldn’t lower myself. And why?

    Because I am criticising Cabaye?

Do what you believe is right.

  15. Zoe – I’m sure there would have been more had somebody not derailed it after only two or there comments and turned into yet another tirade against one of our own players.

Thankfully there was a few who showed you a bit of respect and talk about something that you went into a lot of effort chasing up.

  16. Toonsy- I know what you mean. Yeah really pleased with those who did comment about it was really great to see.

Hopefully i’ll get my other interview back in the next few days or so

  17. Zoe I didn’t post on your article but did enjoy reading it.
Without wanting to sound patronising, well done.
Apreciate the effort put in. Keep it up.

  18. Coming back on thread, I see Colo’s english is improving no end

I know he seems quiet and timid to us, but I think he gets the respect from the lads.
Making him captain might be a good thing for him, bring him out of his shell more.
I really like him, and hope he and Staylor can forge a great defensive partnership, at least for the next couple years.
Of course I worry what will happen come contract renewal time, but we’ll cross that bridge later 😉

  19. Anyone know who gave the link of the sign change at Newcastle? I think it has been edited in photoshop

  20. ZOE yourself and the others that write threads for this blog will always get my respect if i dont agree with a point i will say so but with respect after all we all have our views, thats what its all about is it not

  21. Its also important for him to instil the belief and confidence in his players.
It will probably all come together suddenly and some team will get a pasting 😉

  22. Yeah I understand that and there is a lot of people who won’t want to know anything about women’s football and i know that.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about football and that’s why I love writing for this blog as I get to read the opinion’s on my articles and I get to write about topics that I’m really interested in etc

  23. BB – Thing with Colo is that I don’t see him screaming and shouting and players. He’s not that type. He leads by example which is a good way of doing it. Fatty Nolan had to scream and shout as if everyone led by his example they’d all be fat and out of breath

  24. @Zoe It was great to read your interview, in fact it gave me the inspiration to write the article I am working on now 🙂

  25. @Dimpleboy. thanks, wow that’s great I’ve inspired you. I have another women’s one in the pipeline as well but won’t get that for a couple of days or so.

I look forward to reading the one you are working on 🙂

  26. Its what I like about this blog, the various intersting articles to talk about, not just the same old news reports of other blogs.

Was looking forwards to another Archie Brands alternative assesments on the QPR match, but he must be too busy. Shame.

I apologise for allegedly ruining your thread. That was not my intention and I suggested a topic to run alongside yours.

Your thread was informative but never going to raise discussions and differing opinions. That is why I introduced the topic.

Despite what toonsy says about derailing it, that was never my intention. I’ve always had a soft spot for you, you know that. 😉

  28. Toonsy I think the board made one right call not signing situ! Seems they were ahead of the game. How we could use a defender though!

Zoe interestingly my previous girlfriend played for Chelsea youth ladies and hence got a real eye opener. You would be suprised the support they got. Actually wouldnt be suprised if it really kicks off in the toon. Publicity is key!

      (Quote)

  29. Liam cool, when I went down to Borehamwood to see Everton ladies play there was a lot of support for the Arsenal team. I think it will kick off it just needs the right strategy to gain a bigger audience.

The women’s world cup was an example of this due to the fact the game got moved to BBC2.

Yeah publicity is key and that’s what I hope to have done for them with the interview

  30. Publicity is key!
    Well said LST.
Like where do they play and when?
    Tkt prices, availability etc.
Having watched some of the England ladies in their world cup, I was surprised at the standard they play at. Actually good to watch football.

  33. Zoe I agree the sign looks photoshopped!

BB the ladies play very good standard I have to admit I used to be a sceptic. The games I’ve seen were on the ground and far more technical.
To be fair the physicality will always be different but you would be suprised at the skill.

  34. Dimple: Excellent!

Liam: I’m going to have a closer look in my frees tomorrow but pretty sure it has been edited.

Agree with the skill, lot more passing it around on the floor to get round players etc

  35. Just read that Santon has cartilage damage. That’s tough on him and he will probably require surgery. Thing about knee injury’s with cartilage is that recovery can either be really quick (1 month), or really long (6 months+). For our sakes I hope it’s the former.

Still. If we lose Santon and gain HBA, I won’t complain too much. Maybe Ferguson will get a run as LB…?
