Toon go scouting as Donny eye Alan Smith

Smith eyed by Dean Saunders and his Donny Rovers
The Newcastle United backroom staff are set to be dispersed around Europe over the next couple of weeks as the search for January reinforcements gathers pace.

On the back of that, a host of Sunday rags seem to hinting that Alan Smith could be offered a football lifeline by Doncaster Rovers in the next transfer window.

Staying with that one, Alan Pardew has said that Alan Smith will not be allowed to leave on loan, although the reports in The Star and The People seem to hint that Doncaster could explore the possibility of acquiring Smith on a free transfer in the January window. You’d have to think that the club would go for that, if only just to shift the wages off of the accounts.

However Doncaster aren’t the only suitors for Smith and Orlando City are keen to get hold of the player who turns 31 this month. Orlando or Doncaster? It’s a tough call although, as with all footballers, much will depend on how much each respective club is willing to pay former striker.

In terms of our striker hunt, there have been reports over the last few weeks of sightings of Graham Carr at various matches across Europe. Sometimes I think he has even managed to be at two grounds at the same time!

Anyway, Carr was at the Leverkusen game in midweek and with long term Toon target Eren Derdiyok playing for Leverkusen you’d have to think that he was once again having a look at the Swiss international striker.

The Sunday Sun understands that Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga is still on the radar after the rather amateur attempt to sign him over the summer. The Mail striker has hit a bit of form in recent weeks with two goals in his last two games. Perhaps we’ll go back in for him in the winter window?

Anyway that just about wraps all the early speculation for this Sunday. If there is anymore you can be rest assured that you’ll get to hear about here on NUFC Blog .

I just hope our string start to the season hasn’t masked over the need for continuous strengthening!?

  1. How the frak woud Donny be able to afford Smudger, even if he was ona free transfer… he earns more in a week than their gate receipts for an entire season ffs.. 😆

  2. Maybe he’ll drop down having extracted a ridiculous amount of cash for his “effort” at Newcastle? 😆

  3. Seems he’s made the conscious decision to ‘earn’ the remainder of his juicy contract on the training pitch. There’s little chance that any of the clubs who might be interested in him could come anywhere close to offering him a comparable salary

Anyway… he’ll be gone next summer along with Xisco – fricking leeches

  4. Hasn’t Smith a gaff in Florida ? Seems a no brainer to me, Donny or Florida, the bloke needs to kick back a bit after his efforts for the Toon over the last 5 years. A legend… 🙄

  5. Cannot blame the blokes, Xisco and Smith, if someone is bright enough to offer them so much wedge for the next five years, we would all say yes, or rather “wehey ya beauty”, or something along those lines…….

Xisco has got me baffled though, I wonder who is really picking up the wedge….it cannot be him, dodgy dealings going on somewhere surely…?

  6. been looking at the fixtures for next round of prem league matches after the intl break, and it will be ok for NUFC tbh even if we lose to spurts.
    Man city v A Villa
    L’poo v manure
    Chelski v Everton
    NUFC v spurts
The only risk of being dropped out of the top 5/6 is if stoke win today and next week v fulham.
So I’m not that bothered by the Tottenham match. I think they will be more concerned about trying to beat us, and it will end in a score draw.
    😆

Agreed, though most of us would also be sacked if we weren’t doing a good enough job. Never understood why this isn’t the case with footballers.

  8. SRH it is exactly the same for footballers. You have a contract of employment normally with a 1 month rotating term. In otherwords you can both give 1 months notice. Footballers contracts have a fixed end date. I had these when working overseas on construction projects. To sack somebody you pay up what is outstanding on the contract. In our case a months money. I Xiscos case anothe 12 months to go.

  9. Pardew getting a lot of credit in the press today. Going against the grain they say by admitting luck.

The Mail sports section even contemplates Pardew for England 😯

So who is deluded? Us or the press?

  10. yeah premandup but i’ve got us down for a draw for that one 😆

Just had a go at that predictor thing on the bbc sports website and after the boxing day game away to Bolton, which I have us down to draw, we wll have played 18, and have 30 points. Sitting 8th.
would be well happy with that, having lost to city, manure and chelski 😥

  12. just reading about yesterdays other Toon fixture – Academy lads against the mackems… sounds like young Adam Campbell had a stormer, scored 1 and made the other 3 in a 4-0 win. There’s a good report on nufc.com

  13. Morning ladies,

Hey, does anyone know what the chant was that the Toon were singing for Ba yesterday? Was it sumik to do with Ramadan? nufc.com has left me intrigued with this………….”It was Ba’s fourth goal in two games and as the away contingent sang, his form since Ramadan has been remarkable. He and we just can’t get enough….”

…as far Alan Smith – please take him. Must admit that Maiga sounds like trouble to me.

  14. Rod, not sure exactly but think it’s something a long the lines of;

“His form since Ramanda, has been remarkable, he just can’t get enough, he just can’t get enough!”

  15. Ba’s scored 4 since Ramadan, and he just can’t get enough, and he just can’t get enough…. 🙂

  16. Cheers Dan, I thought it may have alluded to the ’80s Erasure classic. I just wanted to know how they’d worded the Ramadan bit.

  17. Delighted for Ba yesterday he is really stepping for us so far! A lot of praise in the independent today but mentions that there are tougher tests to come for us. It’s weird having positive press, Lineker even praised last night. I was gobsmacked

Anyway I’m off to play footie now, catch yous later 😀

  18. Here’s a brain-teaser for yers anyway:

Which footballer has scored in every competition and league open to English clubs (Premiership, Championship, lower leagues, Champions League etc…). He’s English, but never played for England, and he’s played for us.

      (Quote)

  19. ….course it is, M. I always think it’s Erasure, think it’s the Vince Clarke thing that throws me, as he was one of Depeche Mode’s founding members.

  20. I can think of a footballer who has cored hatricks at all four levels, both cups, and his country, but he’s not english and he never played for us.
