Stoke 1-3 Newcastle – Extended match highlights

A 17 minute compilation of highlights of the 3-1 victory at Stoke City last night for you now. Enjoy.

That was Demba Ba’s second hat-trick of the season, which brings his tally to eight league goals in nine league appearances. Not too shabby for a “ticking timebomb” who was signed on a free!

It was a great win last night. Our tactics were just about spot on and we answered all of the questions Stoke answered in this, our 10th first real test of the season. We’re now 3rd in the league and know that a win at home against Everton in the early kick-off will see us go 2nd, albeit temporarily as Man Utd take on the unwashed at Old Trafford in a 3pm kick-off.

I’ve seen a few people ask about download links for the full match so I’ve sourced them for you. All you need to do is click the relevant link below and download it. Just be careful and make sure you check anything that you download.

First Half
Second Half

These are happy days for Newcastle fans. Surely it won’t last but having said that there is nothing wrong with wanting it to continue for as long as it can. A win against Everton would give us 25 points heading into that run of games against the Manchester clubs and Chelsea which would mean that we’d still be in touch with the European slots even if we lost all three of them!

This Newcastle side continue to answer the questions asked of them and confound the critics at pretty much every turn. We can be truly proud of them and confident that they will give their all for the cause.

Isn’t that all we can ever ask for?

  1. There’ll be lack of new articles today. Just letting you all know. Woke up Kate this morning and never got the chance to get my writing hat on. One more still to come for definite, and it might be more as someone will no doubt have something planned 🙂

Having said that, these highlights will do for a bit. Demba Ba is rapid man 😯

  2. toonsy… when we signed Ba I remember all the negative morons saying he’ll be lucky to get 10 goals this season……. only 2 to go

  3. It was an immense performance from the lads last night. Special mention to both Gunthrie and Simpson. The former chucked in at the deep end coped very well and I think Simpson has upped his game a bit since being taken off against Wigan for Santon.

I wasn’t aware of that SMB Readytogo forum until I started reading this blog, but there are some very amusing posts on there at the moment. They seem to talk about us more than their own team.

A few comments about how they still think they are better on paper than us and just need a different manager are hysterical. Comparing Tiote to Vaughan…priceless.

Feel a win against Everton at the weekend.

  9. Watching bas first goal back his movement is excellent. Knows where the balls going and sprints to get there arriving late to avoid defenders.

  10. Can’t stop watching Best’s pass for the second goal, phenomenal.
All the kids will be trying it at lunch time in school.

  11. What’s the commentator on about he can see why Crouch’s penalty was given but not Best’s? Just because Best didn’t dive with the slightest bit of contact on him.

  12. LUALUA – gotta say, although a soft un – theirs was a pen. Ba was daft to shove him

Got 2 give Best credit for our pen tho – he really took advantage of the situation well. Shouldn’t have been a pen IMO, but the ref obviously wanted to appear consistent

Steady on Nobby. That was Toonsy who said that! 😛

  14. I’ve just been to the barbers to get the full Colo perm. However, Barry the Barber reckons my hair isn’t long enough.
So I’ve just pulled loads of dried brambles out the back garden and weaved them in my barnet.
It looks pure mega like! 😛

  16. Troy, Robert Stnim won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1847 for his discovery of antelope subatomic particles, everyone knows that. He’s got nothing to do with your silly mint theory. 🙄

  17. Onions onions. Come and get your onions.
3 bags for the price of 2! Bargain.! 😯

    Who said that? 🙄

    Not me! 😯

I reckon Krul is the best keeper in the world at this moment. Even Robert Stnim wouldn’t argue with that. 😯

  18. @Rodz

Good to see another sane man amongst a blog of mentalists! 😛

It’s them it’s those it’s themose! They are the loons not us! You! Me! Muesli ! 😯

Krul has the hands of god with a catipult G. 😯

  19. Robert Stnim wouldn’t argue as died in 1874 Troy, so you’re probably correct there. Ellfaw Otatop would question your Krul statement though, he’s a worldwide authority on things that temporarily hang in the air, sometimes horizontally. I do also believe Tim Krul has the magic hands of a baboon from the moon.

  20. I’ve just snagged my bramble bush Colo perm in the chest press machine in the gym!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh! It looks like Tiotes Mohican noo! 😯

  21. Get some goose fat on it Troy, that always works for me. Anyway, speaking of geese, I must water the kangaroos – they’re looking a trifle flakey, almost transparent. Tatty bye……

Mr Elffaw Otatop was a mighty fine spud indeed! 😛
His wit was mashed his humour crisp, his kindness boiled, and his temper roasted. 😯

But I concur Tim Krul is the baboon from the Toon. 😯
His hands are like the great late Bob Backlands!

  23. Troy, you’re on surrealist’s fire today, man. 😆

Totally chuffed about last night’s game still. My bindipper bro-in-law texted to admit he was worried it was now a four-way tussle for the last CL spot. Praise indeed.

MOTM for me was Pardeiu. Not only did he admit his mistakes of last time, he put them right with clinical precision. Utterly brilliant.

Dammit – I even stopped myself from uttering expletives when he brought Perch on. THAT’S how much respect I have for the guy’s thinking now.

  24. @whumpie

Pardew can do no wrong at the moment and he must feel like he’s walking on water .

I’m sure I saw him walking owa the Tyne doing a jig as he went. 😛

I was the only one to support him in times of doubt! Shame shame shame on you all. 😛

  25. Gareth Southgate on Sky was creaming himself over Newcastle last night. We were good, like – but I thought he was going to start playing pocket billiards live on TV… 😯

  26. M @ 27. Personally mate I thought neither of them were pens, both were very soft IMHO but if the ref gave one he had to give the other and that was consistent so full marks for the ref on that one. I also thought Best was right to stay on his feet unlike the rather dramatic fall of Crouch lol.

  27. I think gabby obertan played amazing 2. with his pace took alot of pressure of the defence. he done also his defencive duties aswell and a brilliant we clipped in cross for the first goal 😀

  28. I see Ed has a heading today “Newcastle Announce Their Arrival Back in the Bigtime.” I chuckled for a second until it dawned on me: it certainly DOES feel that way right now. The pundits, press, other managers, etc also are treating us as such. I know it’s only 10 games, but something just feels different- I feeling I haven’t had in ten years

  29. While we’re on Demba songs, started one at Blackburn that caught on for a little while.. to the tune of the Imperial March from Star Wars (the Darth Vader tune) Ba ba ba demba ba demba ba, ba ba ba demba ba demba ba, and repeat… Reet it’s canny hard to put it into words, anyone know what i’m getting at??

  31. Great performance last night against a very stubborn Stoke team who normally play well at home. Lets not forget that a lot of the big teams have failed to win at the Brittannia which makes our victory all the more sweet. It should be a footballing crime to play football the way Stoke do. Can you imagine 20 Stoke City’s in the premier league? Anyway enough on that.

Every single Newcastle player put in a very good shift. I was a bit worried about the absence of Tiote but Guthrie impressed me a lot last night. Gutierrez and Obertan were fantastic. Gutierrez with his constant tracking back and Obertan providing a good pacey outlet. Best and Ba showed again that their forging a very good partnership and glad Ba showed Stoke what they’re missing out on! The defence was very solid and coped with Stoke’s aerial bombardment admirably. Even the full backs did very well. On the whole a complete performance with solid defending at one end and clinical finishing at the other. Good to see Pardew learn from our last outing to the Brittannia where we were well and truly thrashed. It doesn’t get much better at the moment! A win next week and we go 2nd (even though it may only be temporarily). Pardew and the players deserve every bit of praise that comes their way.

  32. Fantastic to be proven wrong by the team. Hats off to all of them. Great performances all around the pitch. Everyone worked their socks off. Pardew has built a team with a great attitude. And we did it without Tiote! Stoke were dirty in our box as usual but it didn’t pay off this time. Hope they get beaten often this year after watching their deliberate fouls. Newcastle should finish top eight.

  33. Beat Stoke at their own game in their own back yard. Even getting a towel to rub down the ball at every throw in. Fantastic! Every team that takes the lead at Stoke should get the towel out for corner kicks too. Who do they and Pulis think they are?
